Hey all

well some of you may remember back in February last year my mark 4 golf was a complete write off after hitting a tree blocking the road at 3am!

which seams it had a 3 week old gearbox, and had done track days at brands hatch, lydden hill and Silverstone, it did hurt a lot (physically just a grazed knee and nose bleed!), brought at 104,000 miles, crashed 18 months later at 126,000!

but I did get my 5 mins of fame!

(yeah one fell on the back of the car after hitting the first tree)

but she was replaced with a mark 5 GTI with 101,000 miles

now, as im still a student, this stayed stock for a while (wow look at the price of that petrol :embarrassed: hope it doesn't get there again!) but going from a 1.6SR to a 2.0TFSI was a noticeable difference.

first service showed the front discs and pads needed replacing, sadly no money to upgrade so still stock and a cam belt change.

then after the summer, my student loans start coming in! a track day booked for November 23rd at Silverstone GP. I noticed a needed new tyres, and well them stock wheels aren't the lightest so the hunt began for new wheels! lots looked at, many impossible to get in time for the track day! but I struck lucky with retch! some OZ racing alleggerita hlt with some Pirelli P ZERO ROSSO tyres! but....the scary part they would be in for the 22nd! so they couldn't be late. driving from kent to the other side of London to collect them...they are there! and the rest of the drive to Silverstone lets them bed in!

this taken after 270 miles on track! the wheels aren't quite that dark! mostly break dust, it was very very heavy rain with lots of people spinning out with the safety car out a few times to check the track, but I only had one spin...on the very tight turns before club (which sadly was caught on film!)

now Tuesday was a long day, leaving at 4am to drive to VRS Northampton. for Volkswagen Racing Street Sport Plus Coilovers, rear anti roll bar, adjustable drop links, white line anti lift kit and a few bushes.

feels good if a little firm as keeping it on stiffer settings until it beds in ( I have already done around 300 miles since Tuesday!), once it does I can see me on nearly softest for the roads round here other than for track days! (don't know where I would be without student loans! thank you student finance my sponsor ;) haha )

today after its first wash since the work.

it is all level but my drive way is at funny angles

now my next jobs? both my front wings being replaced under warranty by vw as both rusting, but weirdly, the next I want to pay for....getting my air con back! the compressor has died and so far best quote has been over £1,000 for everything!

next mod though will probably be breaks

with be at BHP show on May 4th!

That's a nice golf 👍. Don't see them very often around where I live though :indiff:

thanks :)
and I only see one or two other GTI's around here and other than shows, its the only modified one ive noticed, a few modified 1.6s but I much prefer the front ends on the GTI's

Congrats that is a very nice GTI! So happy to hear how well everything turned out after that insane event with mother nature. :)

thanks! surprising how much it hurts to lose a car like that though, but still, both of them not bad for first cars

Both wheel arches finally replaced, lucky it was under warranty, I saw the receipt the garage claimed for...over £1,600!
not perfect but for free ill take it, better than rusting, but now the stone chipped bonnet looks horrible next to the (nearly) perfect wings!

Glad everything turned out well after that nasty crash. 👍

Beautiful GTI, the rims on it are just perfect for it. :dopey:

thank you :P and yeah I love them, I was trying to get a completely different style but no where could get them in time for the track day! then I found these, lighter than stock, these are just under 7KG each!

thought I was looking at 18"'s I decided to go with 17" because there was a huge price jump, and the £1,500 ish for wheels n tyres was enough :P
