I don't think anyone has posted this here yet so this is for people that haven't seen this cool new Mazda Roadster that you get from special order. Found an article on this here on ign.
 
The look that mazda are going for with the new MAZDA MX-5 is interesting, as it looks like it is a cross breed between the old model and the RX-8.

I don't mind the red one, but I think you're right about the yellow car with all the plastic add-ons.
Hopefully someone will stick the OZ-spec turbo engine in it.
 
Personally I wouldn't mind sticking with the stock 160 hp engine, in the article it said there's going to be 350 of them for the US so don't know about Canada, I hope they do sell some in Canada if they do then I will seriously consider getting one of these babies.
 
First off, the Roadster Coupe is only availible in Japan, and I believe will never make it anywhere else.

There is a base model version that just is a stock Miata coupe, so it looks the same, and looks good. You can see it by clicking the link in my signature, that's where I post my Mazda news. There's the full artical, so you can see the specs aswell, directly from Mazda Media Japan.
 
No it doesn't. It uses the normal Roadster/MX-5/Miata platform. And there's no turbo version in the works, only a turbo MazdaSpeed Miata for the US, with the Australian MX-5 SP turbo kit.

There is a Turbo Miata in the works as Glut said. I was wrong yeah wrong car. :D

What's Special About It?
Looking something like a first-generation Miata and an Audi TT, the Ibuki took the center spot at the Mazda exhibit in Tokyo — and with good reason. Out of all the gas/electric hybrids trying to be sports cars on the show floor, the Ibuki has the most realistic shot at production. Why? Because it takes a simple formula — a lightweight roadster with a lively personality — and adds a self-regenerating electric motor and an automatic engine shut-off feature (to reduce fuel consumption at idle). The resulting roadster doesn't need to make tremendous amounts of power to be worthy as a sports car, since it doesn't weigh much to begin with. With the Ibuki, Mazda is shooting for approximately 177 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 132 pound-feet at 6,000 rpm.

Alongside that, the company has deviated from two generations of Miatas and used a front-midship engine layout as in the RX-8 — such that the new 1.6-liter gas engine's center line resides behind the front axle. Engineers opened up a space for the engine by locating the air conditioner behind the seats. The result is a car with less weight over its front wheels and better at-the-limits handling than the current Miata. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission with reinforced synchronizers to assure shift quality that is equal to or better than that of any Miata past or present.

Additionally, the Ibuki adopts the RX-8's twin-backbone body frame, which gives the roadster a level of rigidity comparable to that of a closed-top car while keeping curb weight in check. The use of lightweight materials like reinforced plastic, aluminum and carbon fiber aids in this task as well. The 18-inch wheels are magnesium alloy, and they're fitted with run-flat tires.

The Ibuki incorporates a rollover sensor that would activate a four-point rollover bar in the event of a rollover. Noteworthy convenience features include dual-zone climate control and keyless entry by ID card.

Why Should You Care?
The word ibuki has to do with "breathing new life into" something or "adding vigor," and Mazda is up front about the fact this concept is a possible direction for the next Miata. Although gas/electric hybrid drivetrains have yet to achieve widespread acceptance or even availability in the U.S., a shapely, sharp-handling Miata could be a sure route to many a heart, mind and bank account. — Erin Riches

That is the miata that uses the RX8 plateform. The autoweek miata is the turbocharged one. There is a coupe verison of the miata at tokyo motor show.

Where on that site does it say anything about a Mazda Roadster Coupe Turbo? Point it out to me, if you will.

Glut, I said that there's no Roadster Coupe Turbo in the works. I fully know of the MazdaSpeed Miata which is for the US like that website says. It uses the MX-5 SP turbo kit from Australia.

There is no Roadster Coupe Turbo, no Miata Coupe, no MX-5 coupe. Only Roadster Coupe, and MazdaSpeed Miata.

The Ibuki isn't a Miata. It's a concept car that was made to be like a Miata. Expect to see none or little of the Ibuki in a 3rd gen Miata.
The "Autoweek" Miata is the MazdaSpeed Miata, turbo.

Is everyone in a sense of understanding now?

that turbo's not only due for the states. IIRC it's also going to be available in Japan and possibly Oz, under the label MX-5 ES.

Uhh, the MX-5 SP was in Australia only for 2001 I believe, and it speced the same as the MazdaSpeed Miata. Infact, the MazdaSpeed Miata uses its turbo kit. I highly doubt it'll be brought back to Australia since, well, it was there already and was discontinued. I also doubt that it'll appear in Japan. I've seen no evidence that it'll be anywhere else except the US.

I guess we will have to wait and see.
 
I dont understand why automakers dont try things out like that here in America. We miss out on so many great cars....its slightly depressing.
 
That Type-A looks awesome. I really wish they would sell that in the US. If it has more headroom than the convertible, I'd be all over it. Damn.

Ok, so what happen between concept to production?? :odd: You know the cars that come out today are kind of like our economy. I hear people saying yeah it's getting better, so where? I haven't seen it??
