Anti aftermarket?? Why?
Makes no sense really.

I think many people would disagree with that. The TT is a very sleek design. Granted, the multiple arches ape the New Beetle, but the execution is far superior. It's performance leaves a bit to be desired, but stylistically...well, some say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. ;)

Thanks Hooligan.

Yea you guys have the SP Miata and SP 323(or Protege)...you lucky guys...but I guess we could order the turbos directly from Mazda over dere, have dem ship it ova here, and it'd be like da cars you gots ova dere.(from that old SNL skit).

Actually...that's not a bad idea at all. My dad would probably agree to it cause it's a factory Mazda part(he's anti-aftermarket, so am I just not to his extent)...now all I need is a Protege or Miata...

..but would it carry factory warranty?

What I was getting at was that the SP and its 200hp has shown that the Miata chassis can comfortably manage more power.

Given that it's a stiff convertible chassis that has lightness as one of its main objectives, it would therefore follow that with a different coupe style body, you've got a great basis for a small lighweight RX-7 that isn't going to need a bucketload of power to make quick.

You've got a proven, lightweight chasis, chuck in a nice rotor in it, put a nice coupe body on it, fiddle with the front end settings to deal with the lighter motor, and voila, you've got a stylish, lightweight coupe that handles well.

You mean like this:

This new Cosmo(a new version of the original Cosmo Sports)has the renesis rotary...just a concept...probably will never go on sale...

Then this:
The RS Coupe

I couldn't find any info on the RS-coupe(not even off the Mazda Media site where I got the pics from...)but just judging by it I'd say that it's probably a normal Miata under there...

So yes, it could be done, but I think that Mazda would use the RX-8 platform before the Miatas...

Mmm - not the most attractive cars I've ever laid eyes on - and the second one is clearly an MX-5.

As I said, it was a rumour a couple of years ago, when Mazda were still in financial strife.

You're right, though - settingup another model on the RX-8 platform would assist in quicker amortisation of tooling and R&D costs, so it makes good financial sense.

Interesting idea though - they could make a lightweight coupe, say an RX-6.

I'd be an RX-5 technicly if it was based off of the Miata...Like the RS that I posted, but with a better front end(the thing looks pretty bad now...).

well yea...I was really hopeing that we would get the "Atenza" name instead of just "6"...I don't know what Mazda is going to do...they are pretty much just in the moment with the 6 and RX-8, but after they are released, I'm sure that they will start on other projects...

This looks like something out of "The Sleeper". :D I'm sure the underpinnings are nice, but it looks too much like the "cars of the future" from the 1950's auto shows.

This one is much better. Granted, it could use a more standard grille (2003 Miata, to be precise), and perhaps some more current-style wheels, but I like the Aston-Martin-ish looks.

Well, the Cosmo is just a concept...the RS was actually built by Mazda Design I think, because it was at the Tokyo Auto Saloon, which is for modded cars and the like, so it's probably just a show car too...I would think that Mazda would release a hard top for the new Miata(for the 1st gen Miatas, they have factory hard tops that you can buy through dealer ships).

Actually the RS will be on sale as a JDM market-only with limited quantities.

The 'new' Cosmo Sport is really going into production but in a very few quantities and it will based on a Miata chassis but it is equipped with a Renesis rotary next year to commemorate to the original CS of the 60's. (Road & Track Magazine 4/2002)

And Mazda has its very own pickup truck (not the Ford-based B-series/Truck), if you go to the german website of Mazda they have its version of the pickup, yea its called the 'B-series' but in JDM they called it the 'Proceed Pickup' which I saw it in 4X4 Magazine in Asia. And way before Ford-based Tribute, Mazda came up with the previous generation 'B' pickup-based SUV called the 'Proceed Wagon' (I can't remember the real name of it) it also released as a JDM only vehicle.

And last-but-not-the-least, I think Mazda and Suzuki have an agreement of their own...........check it out on www.mazda.co.jp

I hope I contributed to something. :)
