Even by recent LT standards, it doesn't look very... LT-ish.
"Wickerbill" is a funny word. The rear wing has a small little addition to it too!
McLaren is really hurting their used market and that affects their own dealers (trade in rates for official stores are bad, no incentive for owners to do so, sitting on inventory they do get), by continuing to produce so many cars in so short time. May be time to drop the LT moniker if this doesn’t provide much over a 720S beyond getting folks to trade in and buy this.
The only model that I repeatedly see gushed over by enthusiasts from other exotic brands, is the 675LT. It has the power, the speed, the full driving emotion & thrill for anyone to appreciate. But, that's it. I have seen a couple MP4-12C owners actually remain thrilled with their cars, but these are guys who were the original owners & believed that car was built during a time the Formula 1 engineers had some involvement. Similar with the 570S, lots of praise on fun & usability, but nothing to the level of the 675LT when talking about instant classic and the need to try/buy one as soon as one can.I've basically lost track of all the models by now. I agree with you, and I think it makes the brand a little less prestigious overall. None of the models seem to have any sort of permanence...they all seem temporary...which makes owning one seem a lot less special than owning a Ferrari. I have a hard team even associating them with the same brand that built the completely singular F1.
Gurney flap is pretty funny too. I feel like British people still have no figured out what to call a Gurney flap. I personally prefer flip-flop wingerydoo."Wickerbill" is a funny word.
$230k isn't expensive in my eyes relative for the performance you get with the 720s. Completely stock its so insanely quick and fast. It gaps pretty much all supercars in its "category", it just pulls so damn hard. My only minor complaint is the sound, which an aftermarket exhaust fixes. I'm so impressed by the 720s. I've rode/driven in a friend of mine's 720s and its such an amimal even in stock form. He added just an aftermarket exhaust and tune and it just rips so hard. The 720S (&570s) is becoming an increasingly popular drag exotic, so it's not totally out of the realm that it beat both there. Likely will become the next "GT-R/Huracan" of the drag racing world the more they get them dialed in & become available. Still pretty expensive right now at around $230,000 bottom market vs. sub $200K for the Huracans.
I meant in terms of a beginning point for a big build, $230K is a lot to invest in just for the car alone, & on a platform that's still working its way into that category that brands like UGR/AMS have cemented themselves in with the Huracan/GT-R platforms. I definitely agree with you in general, $230K is good money for the out-of-the-box performance McLaren put into it, showcasing its potential with the right checkbook behind it. It's only a matter of time before more 720S' are gunning for those top spots & overcoming the lack of AWD the other 2 are running to get power down.$230k isn't expensive in my eyes relative for the performance you get with the 720s. Oh gotcha. I didn't know you were talking about it as a base car for a big build. I agree with your point. The GTR is a great car for a big build, very reasonable starting price with totally dialed in aftermarket builds, and they are double edge swords, can go both ways with dragstrip 1/4 runs as well as half mile or mile top end. Huracan more expensive but UGR great for higher end runs, its gotten better at 1/4 builds but their bread and butter is mile/top end runs.I meant in terms of a beginning point for a big build, $230K is a lot to invest in just for the car alone, & on a platform that's still working its way into that category that brands like UGR/AMS have cemented themselves in with the Huracan/GT-R platforms. So I've been seeing since TX2K with the amount of trash talking UGR has been doing to some GT-R owner who called them out, yet haven't given him a race yet.Oh gotcha. Was the UGR car a shop car? Because I've seen UGR shop owned cars in the past talk trash on GTR private owner cars which is funny to me.So I've been seeing since TX2K with the amount of trash talking UGR has been doing to some GT-R owner who called them out, yet haven't given him a race yet.
Not sure, tbh, as I didn't see what exactly sparked the whole back and forth. I just remember seeing UGR make social media posts that were clearly aimed at somebody, and people were tagging the same GT-R owner who apparently called them out at/after TX2K and said they've still yet to race him at other events. Was the UGR car a shop car? I vaguely remember but have been so busy with work I haven't really had free time to visit forums and keep up on alot of stuff. Not sure, tbh, as I didn't see what exactly sparked the whole back and forth. I think it's a red GT-R owner in Houston, that's been featured on 1320 a couple times as being nearly unbeatable. At least, his car in the video looks similar to the IG account everyone was tagging. You're likely more affiliated with the GT-R community, so maybe you know who he is?
