Mercedes sucks

Ok, I got your attention with the title. After a long absence from GTP(i always came on the site yet i never really posted much) i finally am returning fully(things have been rough).

Now to the topic: JD power rated Mercedes a low contender in quality. In 1990 it was rated number 1. In 2003 it is rated a low 26th place. While initial quality is good, long lasting quality is terrible. There are some models to blame to. The M class has had terrible quality for years and after a redesign it still was a poor vehicle. the E-class is also terrible with quality despite high sales. Also currently Lexus is number one and has been a good contender for years. Mercedes fault was trying to cut costs like the Japanese yet this cost them dearly in quality. Parts of the interior chipped inside the M-class and electric problems in the E-class were found. Many customers are now looking down on Mercedes.

Mercedes cars could have also taken a beating fron the merger with Chrysler in 1998. Mercedes is trying to fix the problem and it better do it quick as its far behind the competors. What are your thoughts on this?

I think its interesting that one of the strongest auto makers has this many quality problems.

What are your thoughts on this?

I owned a Mercedes ML430 for a full year and it was the single worst reliable vehicle I have ever owned. It didn't turn me off to Mercedes, though - I'm buying a different Mercedes of similar age by the end of July. I think they're great - not as good as BMW, that is - but great.

Most European makers have quality trouble - the Audi A6 is one of the worst reliable cars sold, and most Volkswagens do no better. The Beetle and Golf are some of the worst offenders. The Volvo S80 and S40 are also pretty unreliable - BMW is the only one that comes through, and it's not even that consistent.

What the hell kind of MB are you getting? My Dad's going to be buying his ex-wife a 2001-ish E320 to replace the 5 series she totalled. I think the dumb ***** needs the AED model. Maybe she won't be able to lose control as easily.

Quit buying stupid cars, and just get a god damn current M5, and buy an '05 when they come out.

I disagree about VW Golf's being some of the worst offenders. Its 8 years I have one, and I never had any problems with it. Its just barely starting to rust in very little places. It depends how the owner uses the car. If you buy a car, and treat it like ****, its normal u will start to experience problems with it. Now if u can pin point to me what exactly is unreliable on the car, then I can check it out to see if you actually are right.

And about the quality troubles.... Audi is rated to be the best in quality, slightly in front of BMW. So get your info right before posting crap. I agree about the Volvos tho. And Mercedes has fallen behind in terms of interior quality and all.

And I have to say that the crappiest built cars are American... followed by the Japanese. European cars arent more expensive for nothing :P

The Japanese are better with quality than American and European manufactuers. JD power is very respected, this is hard facts over a 3 year period. I dont now how audi and BMW rank, yet i know there not in the top 5.

No, idiot. I'll get a new one, but that's still a year and a half off. Until then, stupid cars ahoy.

You've never had a single problem, ever? Call Volkswagen, it's a first for them. I think any objective person who had a Corrado for an extended period of time can tell you how reliable they are. The generation you have was actually decent, but the previous generation and the current ones haven't done well.

Well, um, as I said, the Audi A6 is one of the least-reliable cars sold. Most of the rest of Audi's line is better than average, though pre-1996 Audi with the exception of the 100/S6 were crap too. Considering you took what I said about the A6 to mean all of Audi's current cars, I feed your own ignorant advice back to you: get your info right before posting crap. :)

Mercedes has fallen behind on quality for some cars, but that's because they now engineer them to a price. Sit in the new E500 or SL55 and tell me they're behind the curve on interior quality.

Well the crappiest built for nearly a decade have been the Koreans - not so much Hyundai or Kia (though some Hyundais/Kias have been horrible), but usually Daewoo. They're usually followed by low-quality European or Japanese marques, especially in recent years now that US makers have been increasing quality (though no-one can accuse Ford of that feat). Infiniti, Lexus, Acura, Cadillac, and Buick are usually right at the top, as they should be - lower volume, costlier cars. Toyota deserves a top spot but they simply produce too many cars to not have lots of problems, though you can still buy a Toyota today and feel generally safe from most problems.

I'd say the crappiest builds are Lotus, TVR, Ferrari and Alfa Romeo. In fact Alfa are the only "largish" manufacturer to regularly net a bottom 3 reliability rating.

Ford Europe are now close to the best build quality and reliability, along with the larger volume Japanese manufacturers.

Yeah - in the UK, it's a whole different ballgame. We of course don't get Lotus, TVR, or Alfa Romeo and very few Ferraris, though from what I've heard the new Maserati is in the garage more than the original Hyundai Excel.

Ford Europe/UK has completely different products than the US as you know, and they're mostly built in Europe, some in the UK. Some of the products aren't that desirable (Fusion) but they're mostly competent - I wish we could have the same competence that Ford Europe has overall.

Beh, the rental Laguna is an 03.
We could have gotten an E36 M3, or an R32 skyline, or even a 320 CLK, or an imported Altezza RS200!

I'm sorry but Bah.

He bought my mom her IS300 almost 3, or 4, years after he divorced her.

What? Why?!

Maybe you're all messed up.

Because they were, and still are, friends. God only knows what the hell he's going to buy her when they get back together.

Now that I think about it my Dad is probably buying Laura the Mercedes as part of their divorce. I know he gave her the house, and two of his TV's + Stereo equipment, and he owed her quite a bit of money. He's probably buying the car instead of giving her the money, or something. Hell, I don't know, I try to stay out of their business unless it's interesting.

ConsumerGuide and Consumer Reports. And given Consumer Report's general tendency to love every single vehicle that Europe has ever produced, I'll believe them on this one. Check out the JD Power ratings of the A6 and A6 Avant.
