I don't think GTA IV should be much of an obstacle. It was good, but not that good. The year is not over, but I would say MGS4 has a good chance.

BTW, I have 23 of the 40 needed emblems. How many do the rest of you have? How did you get them?
Reading this I am now glad I don't have teh game yet, because I realize these are likely intended to be trophies withthe 2.40 roll out, and part of why they initially planned for 2.40 to be out in time for MGS4.

Out of curiosity, how hard will getting those 23 again be?

I have a question to ask:

Is Metal Gear Solid 4 the game of the year?

I was going through Metacritic scores and MGS4 is currently at 95 out of 100. The only game that has a higher rating is Grand Theft Auto 4 with a 98 out of 100. Can MGS4 come out on top this year?
I think it will depend on the reviewer, as some love it and others hate it. Some reviewers see long cutsceens as a bad thing, others good, some think the shooting mechanics should be more shooter style, others think it fits as you aren't supposed to be rewarded for running and gunning. It all depends on who is giving out rewards.

Oh, and Snake needs your help in the real world.

Not that hard, since I now know what to do and how to do it. I can get about 30 emblems in just two play-throughs.

Right now I'm going for the CHICKEN emblem. It's more ridiculous than the BIG BOSS emblem. lol

At least it's easier.

As far as trophies and MGS4 are concerned, I couldn't care less. Sounds like a dumb idea that will be exploited in some way.

I finished MGS4 and got the gun Solid, thanks. :)

BTW, that last fight between Snake and Liquid absolutely blew chunks. I didn't understand any of the end either... :illustrates things going over my head: lol

Some of the emblems are almost IMPOSSIBLE to get. On a couple, you HAVE TO get a perfect playthrough otherwise you wont get the emblem. Take for example, the Big Boss Emblem (the hardest, by far): you cant use any continues, cant use any health regenerating items, cant kill anyone, cant get any alert phases, cant use the bandana or the stealth camo, and have to beat the game in 5 HOURS OR LESS on the Big Boss Extreme difficulty. Now if someone wants a challenge, try to go for this one - you almost have to be superhuman to get it. I got already. Haha. Good luck to everyone else who attempts this feat. You can get 23 emblems on a single playthrough. I did it. You WILL have to play MGS4 through at least 5 times in order to get all of them. I did. All you get is an ipod song for getting all 40. But then you also get other things from the other emblems, like the Patriot, Desert Eagle with Scope, Solar Gun, Thor .45-70, Type 17 pistol, bandana, and stealth camo, and more ipod music.

It's THE BOSS EXTREME.

Right now, in order to get CHICKEN, and my 36 hours of play time, I've turned off the controller after hiding in a ammo shed. I'll let the PS3 run for a few hours, and go back to playing, later. I got the 51 or more rations used, and I think I got both 501 kills and 151 alerts finished, but I have to check my stats during the MISSION BRIEFING to make sure.

Yeah the Chicken emblem is hard to get in the sense of that you have to do EVERYTHING wrong and show yourself and shoot people whenever possible. You dont get anything for it however, except the Corpse camo unlocked for using 41 or more continues.

 I find it funny how hard some of these emblems will be to get since they're so ridiculously specific! :D

Yeah, the internet posts aren't much help, since they're mostly wrong.

For example: To get SCARAB, you must LIE DOWN and roll sideways, not leap sideways like some emblem threads say. Oh, and CHICKEN needs the amount MORE THAN what is posted, or you wont get it. One guy found that out the hard way.

The only hard part is going for those odd emblems like PUMA, PANTHER, and the like. You must be specific with those and no internet post on emblems is much help.

Currently on a CHICKEN run with the following stats:

Play Time Hours: (35+) Leave PS3 on, controller off. Currently running at the Mansion, in bed, playing dead while staring at Akina poster on ceiling. THE PERFECT SPOT! Current amount (11)

Continues: (50+) Saving for Screaming Mantis Fight, i.e. 'Kill Meryl.' Current amount (3).

Kills: (500+) Killing Spree at South American Confinement Facility. Completed (1,211).

Alerts: (150+) Got plenty during Killing Spree SA Confinement Facility. Completed (176)

Rations: (50+) Used Cigarettes and once health went down a tad, used Ration. Completed (67)

If you redo the game, do you get to keep your guns, or do you have to save up for them again?

So long you load up your game save at the start of a NEW GAME, you get to have them, but only after meeting with the Mk.II in Act 1.

'Chicken Run' completed. Now currently on the 'Big Boss Run.'

I've got a question about doing a 'no kill' playthrough and what to do about the bosses.

Can you use red guns on them in the first stage, then the blue guns in the 2nd bit when they are out of the suit machine things and walking towards you, and still get the doll things/no kills?
I finished the flying one (at the end of the eastern Europe bit) off like that and the guide said the doll thing for that boss is on the top level of the building during the second, 'beauty' stage but couldn't find it.

I just started tonight, and I only have 1 question regarding the Rebels in Act 1. I noticed some YouTube videos showing the player helping them. However, when I aim and start shooting the PMCs, the Rebels turn on me. What the hell, dudes!

I don't know if it can be done earlier but eventually you will be able to get a Rebel uniform and they won't shoot you anymore.

Nope. If you're going for zero kills only, yes, you can use lethal weapons during the first stage. But, if you going for the action figures, then NO you cannot use lethal weapons during the first stage. Non-lethal only.

EDIT: Crap! I told you what to do for Act II. Don't read it, unless you want to know.

What you need to do during the very first moments of that stage is rescue the four militia men, and one will unlock the door to the house that stores the uniform. Once you do this, you'll automatically have the camo, for this stage only, for every play-through regardless if you save them.

Once you save them, they see you aren't a bad guy, but if you shoot one of them by accident, forget it. You probably shot one by accident, which is very easy to do in the dark.

When they ask for help, help them. Walk to the first guy cowering, and equip a ration. When you walk near him, a TRIANGLE and ICON appear that shows Snake handing a person a ration. That's when you push TRIANGLE to hand him a ration, and you are now friends with the militia. Also, shoot the PMC soldiers before they spot you.

is there anything else special you need to do? So far I've taken down the first 2 completely non-lethal but I see no figures.

EDIT: whats this about a uniform? I've never had trouble with the rebels though I do always help them when I can and start off right away shooting only PMC

The doll figure things need to be picked up like ammunition or other items, they are easy to find if you know when and where to look for them.
The frog soldier one is in the garage after you first meet meryl and beat the soldiers without killing any.
The second is after you beat laughing octopus, its on a bed in the lower-left corner of the top-right room in the lab.
The raging raven one is on the top floor, just outside on the balcony. You have to get this one during the 2nd stage of the fight i guess because there is only cut scenes (no actual play) after this bit. Haven't got to the others yet.

There is a middle east disguise in the underground, rebel safe house and the south american one is at the very start if you save the rebels like Solid Lifters posted.

Yes. When you take down the FROGS in Act I, and each boss with NON-LETHAL weapons, you must search and collect each action figure during the second stage of each boss fight. (Not the FROG action figure. Just collect it in the garage area.) If you pass it up, you cannot collect it later.

I too, never had a problem with them. I always went behind them, and shot the PMCs or took out the armored car and they praise me.

I guess you can win them over earlier, but I probably shot some of the Rebels. Then I found the uniform in the "cave" and they stopped shooting. It made it easier to win them back.

Ah, ok. 👍

No. Maybe movie of the year, anime of the year but not GAME of the year.

The movie quality is superb. The story quality is good but has serious writing flaws.

***Possible Spoiler***
At the very end the story takes a nose dive when it employs soap opera gimmikery.
****

It loses points for...
1. many QTE scenes
2. Incoherent story and soap opera gimmicks.
3. Loading when going through some doorways.
4. AI that seems unable to follow you through doors.
5. Go-down-hallway gaming with artifical barriers keeping you on the path.
6. Two guards walk side-by-side grab one and the other hears nothing.
7. In QTE scenes geckos can be taken down far more easily than in game.
8. Suicide geckos? Why?
9. Exposions are bad..helicopter...cars...apc...all except for gecko explosions.
10. Fire and snake on fire looks bad.

Again lots of gameplay flaws but overall a great game.

GOTY? GTA IV because Libery City is just that liberty, freedom from hallways and barriers and load scenes. . I think most critics agree.

But MGS4 is a blast and one of the best games ever made.

More like a step back from San Andreas. The graphics were good, but not much to write about and the game was too dark. Many people thought the story was good, but I didn't find it that interesting. But this isn't the GTA thread.

Your list of "loses points" is way, way to silly to take seriously.
