Miatas can beat up 86s hands down... and I don't see why nobody figured this out. It's even cheaper than an AE86, more reliable, and a CONVERTIBLE option!

So... what good suspension setup in real life can be applied in GT3 that will be less prone to spinning after...

Stage 3 reduction
RHB31 turbo
Kuromori Flywheel
Racing Clutch?

Don't tell Josh ... he used to own an S2000. Where do you get off saying that anyway? I think convertibles are bad ass. Perhaps you just don't have good taste in cars (:

I could be mistaken, but I believe the hard-top is a removable item which is an addon to the soft-top. With the hard-top attached you still have the soft-top stored in its "top-down" possition.

Am I wrong? I thought this is how it worked ...

In most instances I would agree - however there are some REALLY nice looking convertibles out there.

In the US, hard tops are removable, but I was referring to the REAL hardtops which are only available in Japan.

Convertibles lose so much stability since there is no roof... I duno why it drifts well in GT3, mebbe 'cuz it's just a game...

Convertables do suck... It is not so much styling but he structure that is lost in the absence of a roof... This lack of a roof provides a great way for ones head to get smashed in by flying debry or an accident, as well as an easy access for car jackers.

I am going to have fun here.

Really, and how many pansy cars do you know could whoop on a Z06 with no problem on the straight and in the curves???

It depends on which conv. the car is. There are ones that are great and others that suck. As for good taste in cars, everyone has rights to opinions, but to blatantly say you hate something is obviously a sign showing that person has either one of three things. 1. going with a band wagon. 2. Real emotional problems, or 3. small man's syndrome.

I'll refer back to my first comment. Yup that Miata was way heavier then that Z06.

It is called frame reimforcement if you are serious about racing a conv. As for drifting, would be nice to do, but I am more of a grip racer. I like taking people in corners, not sliding my arse out for the public to see.

Car jackers, yes it is easier for them. But if you know how to protect you car from them, ie. hiding important wires one might use to jump start the car, putting a guard over the tranny cable adjustment nut and so on, they are quite hard to steal my friend. As for accidents, you protect yourself, a perfect example is the conv. Beetle by VW. The rear head rests are actually roll bars. If the ECU senses that the car is above a certain preset degree on two wheels, one wheel or three wheels, it calculates the speed and other factures. The roll bars will pop out to the full position in a matter of 1/10 a second. The Conv. Beetles were also droppped on the roof to see if it is able to withstand a flip over and passed with flying colors. Now as for debris flying, you gotta chance it. Until you actuallydrive a conv don't blatantly say things about them without holding up any prrof against it. No proof no arguement then obviously you got issues of some sort. (that is in reference to the first comment quoted again.) There have been good points drawn up here since and very legitimant too. Drive one first and then make you opinion.

I am telling you i have seen boxes crack windows on the freeway so bad that the driver has to pull over... Now what if that was your head... And it knocks you out for a second... wtf do you do then... except crash...

While i have never driven one i have been in one with the top down... more of a city/ beach cruiser than a serious car... But then again i live in SF so why the hell would i ever get one... we never see much but fog and rain...

My last post was meant to display how i was not willing to chance it lol...

i agree with "everyone has rights to opinions" tho

Didn't know Bengee lives in San Francisco. :odd: I'm not too observent either, though. I can't wait til I move to.....someplace else..

SF, Oakland Airport, and Marin are the most popular places.

and to bust out this stereotype.. .why do azn boys dislike convertibles so much?

i am white and 25% Japanese, and i think they are dum just cause every sportscar is mutilated by verts... Targa tops are ok in my book... its just my preference...

I believe that making a company making a vert is not serious about that cars ability, but rather its marketablity. I however let this slide when i discuss Griffiths and Shelby Cobras and other wonderous roadsters... The miata, however, does not rise to the level of a forgiveable car...

I generally don't have a problem with cars that were made specifically as convertibles. They tend to be built to handle a lot better than those that are basically hard top cars with a soft top. I don't like Miata's because I think they look like "girl cars". They may be fast and handle awesome, but I just don't like how they look.
I also tried to drive a miata and while I could fit in the car with enough head room, I couldn't see out the side windows and there's no way I'd be able to see stop lights because the top of the windshield is directly in my line of vision. The only convertibles that I really like are the S2000, Z4, and Z8, but the s2000 doesn't have enough leg room and I haven't had the chance to try out the other two. I would much rather have a hard top, targa roof, t-tops, or just a sunroof. :)

Ethix101,
are you like a gigantor or something??
sounds like convertables could fit in the palm of your hand...

nah, seriously though, i dont find anything wrong with convertables. The miata is a finely crafted car...
The engine is built so the car is totally balanced, it also has the variable valve timing thingo (from memory) and the car is extremely light in weight

IMHO, its a pretty nifty car

:) :) :)

actually miatass are very good autcross cars if tuned right but if u suck at driving.....and u cant sya its better then an 86 because IT DRIVER that matters go p to Ueo in ur maita and see if u can even hang on a togue or even a track

listen miata13b how tha fuk u gonna say a miata can beat a z06...(im not a redneck eho likes 4.0and up motors) but the z06 has 405 hp and the miata has 128
0-60 z06 -4.7
miata 11.8

how can u say its faster than z06

your probobly gonna say 'you can put a 13b or 20b engine into it and turbo bigger than your brain... sure it will have more power but if you put 40,000 dollars into a miata you have to put 40,000 dollars into the vette so basically a miata will never be faster than a corvette...whens the last toime you've seen a miata in the rolex 24 hours finishing 1 and 2?...how long has a miata been around? 10 years if im not mistaken...even not that much. Vette...51 years and still selling strong you can never base the speed of a car in a game on real life

Listen n00b, I don't know who you are, but, do you want the reciepts that I spend on my old car including the time slips from the drag strip and also all the autocross slips that I have for the past 9 years of racing in my life or not? Gee, you are also fast to figure out I did put a rotary engine into my car. But as for spending $40 g's on my car, I never had too. Before my car got totalled, it was pushing 357hp at the wheels, compared to the Vette's what 405 at the crank. If you do a little simple mathmatical equation, you may be able to figure out with a power to weight ratio that Vette got burnt. On top of that, with the amount that I put into the suspension, which mind you was where most of the money I put into that car went, it was pulling .985 on the skidpad, I think that would take the Vette's .97g on the skid.

Hm. I'm with S15 Here. I mean, if you're gunna go through all that trouble with a Miata, just buy something..like..bigger? And that way you don't go through all the trouble..Yeah..Of doing mods to it.

And you have every right to your opinion. Now the problem also is, do you have the cash to go ahead and get the Bigger and better car right away and the credit? (not saying you, but speaking for a stand point of are you going to spend all that cash on it) or opt to do it yourself and build the car from scratch, which was what I did. Personnally I love working on cars so when I was 16 I found the miata at a really good price. From that point I built it from the ground up.
