I'm catching up on Mann's film before Miami Vice comes out.

Loved Collateral, love Heat even more.

Anyone remember watching Heat (Al Pacino & Robert DeNiro)? Great movie huh?

An excellent film. I like Mann as well, but it was Heat that made me like him. I watched Manhunter (the original adaption of Thomas Harris' book Red Dragon) and absolutely hated it. I sure hope Miami Vice is good, because I hate Colin Farrell and he looks like Yosemite Sam with that handelbar moustache!

Micheal Mann seems to be the only director who realises how loud guns are.

Collateral & (especially) Heat are freakin' excellent. Mainly due to the action sequences. The one in Heat has to be (probably) the best ever (realistic) gunfight.
And i love it in Collateral were Cruise quick-draws on them to "hommies".

I was pleasently suprised with Collateral, not as good as heat mind, but heat was superb.

I was thinking exactly the same. Collateral was alright, but Heat is one of those landmark films in my book. I also agree with Anderton on "Manhunter". I didn't really care for it.

Tom Sizemore, Al Pacino, Natalie Portman(me & Duke's huge fan of her :P), Robert De Niro, Val Kilmer, Ashley Judd, Jon Voight and Ted Levine(that freak from the Silence of the Lambs 👍 ). I almost forgot, the President from the TV series "24" is the getaway driver in it. 👍 There are bunch more familiar faces in "Heat". It's an absolutely loaded cast.

The movie made me really care about the characters and I do think the plot and action were really flawless.

Yep Dennis Haysbert is the driver (the one from 24), sometimes you get a film with an all star cast and they try to out perform each other so much they get out of their roles, but in Heat, it's done to a fine art. I've got it on DVD, not watched it in a while, I'm ot doing anything tomorrow afternoon either, hmmmm, what to do.

Now, you are reading my mind. This has got to stop! :D

I loved Collateral (the soundtrack is great, too) and Heat is freakin' epic. I've just seen the trailer for Miami Vice and it looks pretty cool, I'll DEFINITELY check it out. 👍

Dont forget Wes Studi (Sagat in Street fighter and many other things) was in Heat.

That track in the club in Collateral is classic!

Hi, I love Heat its a great movie and Collateral, i have heat on Special 2 disk DVD, and when they were shooting the last stand gunfight as they run from the bank, they were going to dub it with fake gun sounds like the rest of the film and like most other films, but when on the cutting room floor they herd the sound from the original soundtrack (recorded on location that day) and decided to use the actual sounds from the guns, which makes it one of the best guns fights of all times.

If you liked this you might want to check out Ronin as the gun and car scenes in that film are awsome too (unless you have seen it already).

I definitely have to watch it over the weekend, now. I'll be looking for Sagat look alike. :D

"Heat" 2-Disc sounds really interesting. If you have time, I'd love to read a review of the DVD from you. :) This is a thread I made for just reviewing DVDs.

"Ronin" is an awesome film. Actually, I am a huge fan of John Frankenheimer, the director. Ronin was another film with a spectacular cast(maybe not Hollywoodwise). Robert De Niro, Jean Reno, Sean Bean, Stellan Skarsgard, Jonathan Pryce, Natascha McElhone. 👍

Yeh i would love to, i will get the disk out tonight and do a review of the features for that thread. 👍

Heat is one of my alltime TOP5 favorite movies. I watched it again 5 days ago, great story, great characters, great actors, great sound, great atmosphere ( colors, music, camera positions etc). Simply awesome. I also liked Collateral and Ronin btw... you guys know quality when you see it :) 👍

Heh, this thread reminded me just how much I liked Heat and Collateral and so I used some of my xmas money and bought the two of them, both great movies.
The final shoot-out in Heat is one of the finest scenes in a action movie that prides itself on being realistic. Oh, the gunfire! Makes me want to go and buy some surround sound and crank it up to hear all the details of that scene.

Sure, the gunfights were great, but one of my favorite parts from Heat is the dialogue between Pacino and De Niro when they were in that diner; just awesome. De Niro's character (Neil) is such a badass, I was kind of rooting for him towards the end.

I bought my copy of the DVD a while back so I obviously have the 1-disc version, but I'm so tempted to go pick up the 2-Disc Special Edition. I really want to check out those new Extra Features.

When I put together a 5.1 set, years ago, Heat was one of the first movie I tried out. Heat is one of the few movies that makes a great use of the digital surround sound. During the climax, with those jets taking off & landing? Just awesome!

Me, too. Mine has a trailer, and that's it. :grumpy: Did you already read the great review of the 2-Disc Set by sprite? If you haven't, or if anybody's interested, here it is: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=2068884&postcount=29

Oh man, speaking of 5.1 channels, I've been trying to think of other scenes from other movies other than my Gladiator DVD to demonstrate my new surround sound system to friends with. That city shootout would be great, as would the final scene on the airfield. Only thing is I only have the old DVD, which is bare-bones. No DTS track on there, that's for sure!

DTS is awesome. My very old Yamaha 5.1 is the only DTS decoding receiver I've ever owned, so I don't know about other digital receivers, but DTS sounds so much better than Dolby Digital 5.1.

Heat was amazing.
Greatest gun battle of all time in my opinion.
Took me a while to find the DVD, but it was worth the wait.

Speaking of gunfights, comedian Dane Cook mentioned how men would pulloff a bank heist in place of sex if they had the chance. He mentioned Heat and having a gun battle and yelling out, "where's the f-ing van" and how you would have that one replacement on the team who just looked cool but did nothing except say one cool line, "let's kill these b's (swear word intended)."

This and having a monkey.

I loved heat. Excellent movie.
I really love Michael Mann's directing but sometimes the lighting he uses makes scenes seem fake and ruins it. What I'm talking about is the scene with Neil and Eady on her balcony and their looking out onto the city. Michael Mann uses some weird white lighting so the two faces are illuminated. It just looks funny and ruins the view of the city.

Heat's a great film - despite Al Pacino playing Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro playing Robert DeNiro in the film.

You mean Pacino playing parts he normally plays, and De Niro playing parts he normally plays, right? Becase, if you think about it, we ca't really know if these guys are like the characters they play in real life...

I think it was better that way. It would of kind of defeated the purpose of getting them together if De Niro was to play a good guy and Al the bad guy. The characters they played fit them perfectly.
