This isn't really anything to do with Tuning, and is'nt a Race Report so I posted it here.

Awhile ago I went to see a Mini stunt show performed by Russ Swift, I was thinking of it a few days ago, and thought if I could perform any tricks/stunts on Gran Turismo 4.

So, I modified my Mini Cooper S, and took to the Test Course, I found once you know what to do, it can perform a few pretty cool moves.

The Donut it a very easy move, it takes hardly any practising.

From a standing start, turn as far left or right as your DS2 or DPF will allow you, do this before accelrating at all. After steering, use full accelration, the car should start turning in circles with smoke coming out of the inside front tyre.
To finish the move, just pull out of a Dount and drive off, your tires may be smoking as you drive away.

The 180 Spin is an easy move once you have the hang of it, and learning it isn't very hard either.

For this move, do not go out of gear 1, redlining gear 1 makes it easier, as always, start turning left and right to built up momentum, this won't take very long, when you think you have enough momentum, take a sharp turn either left or right, when your very nearly at 180 degrees (around 155 degrees), let of the accelerator and start reversing, you should need to turn at all to keep in control. Reverse in a straight line to finish the move, to make it look better, after reversing for a few seconds, flick the car around and drive forwards again.

One of the tricks that can go wrong in quite a few ways, you can mess up the spin and hit a barrier or wall, or when bringing the car back into control, you can spin out.

Gain a speed of over 100 Mph, or 160 Kmh, drive to either side of the track, I reccomend going to the right which is what I did, I can explain easier from there.

When at speed, turn right so your nearer the track center, and start turning left and right, start turning lightly, but keep making the turns sharper and sharper, until your drifting the car sideways, then, make one sharp and hard turn, keep the accelration on and keep turning, when your nearly at 180 degrees, start reversing, your car will go backwards but at an angle, flick the car around by turning, you may start going sideways again, but you can easily control this, drive straight and clean to finish the move.

This trick has to go perfectly the whole way to look good, The Spins will make your Mini spin around at least 5 times before it redlines itself going 10 Mph in gear 3.

To perform the trick you must do what you did with the 360 Spin, accelrate to at least 100 Mph, then start turning left and right, the turns becoming sharper each time, then turn one very sharp turn and keep accelrating and turning, don't do anything else with the gears yet. Your Mini should start spinning around in circle, quite quickly, after it's spun at least 5 times, it will slow down and redline itself, a tip here is to downshift while spinning to gear 1 or 2, it'll help get a better exit.

My Mini Cooper S Modifications.

NA Tune Stage 2.
Port Polishing.
Engine Balancing.
Chip Upgrade.

Racing Exhaust.

Ecomany Tires.

All settings remain stock.

I need to take a few more pictures and write up the tricks, my Max Drive should come soon so I'll post replays aswell :).

If you need any help I'll be happy to answer your PM's, feel free to send them :).

Looks like a fun idea, I'll give it a go. Have you ever driven one of these IRL? The first thing I noticed asw the lack of Supercharge whine in the game.

Also seems strange to do an NA tune on a supercharged car!

Saw Russ Swift at castle Combe about a month ago. In the pouring rain he did the most amazing stunts including his showpiece of getting into a space between two parked cars. Pity you can't try it in GT4.

nige, was that at the Rally Car day? I couldn't go but I normally do, and he performs there.

But adding the NA Tune gives it more power and make it spin more ;).

Thanks for 'almost repping' me Gingiba .

I'll add some more tricks and photos tomorrow.

heh, i've done this quite a few times, usually across the finish line if i'm way ahead of the pack while on a money gaining race........

not just with the cooper-s, but with quite a few other cars.....

i've seen russ at quite a few shows over the years...... the most memorable was at doncaster race course a few years ago, he handed the keys over to someone in the croud to have a go...... needless to say, he missed, lol......

i also recall him having a strange diff setup, where all the power was sent to only front offside wheel..... i'm guessing this was for pulling the car round in a tighter turning circle, and for the driving on 2 wheels.......

it's a pity gt4, or any other 'game' can't handle such physics......

I added how to do Dounts, although not all of you might think they are Donuts, you might think they look slightly diffreny.

try and do how russ does donuts ;)
go to 2 player in arcade and park another car and try and try and donut around it ;)
i gave it a go last night and its pretty easy

Yep that's the one. Fantastic day but got absolutely soaked!!!!!!

It was a great day indeed, I got soaked as well.

Have you seen these

my pictures from the day (warning not 56k friendly), you will find them after my shots from this years Autosport International.

I've now seen Russ Swift three times and also got footage of him on a number of DVD's, the guy (and his son) are simply stunning when it comes to car control.

👍

Agreed Scaff, I love the part when he gets others to pay him for a ride, and he put them in the boot and drives on two wheels etc..

I love your pictures from the Rally Days, I remember nearly all the Lancias that you have taken pictures off since I love Lancias.

I also remember the line of Toyota Celicas very well although I'm not a huge fan of them (not that I don't like them at all though).

Hey great pics and vidz. Love the sound of the Audi Quattro. My memory of the day- sheltering in the newly constructed building by the paddock with hundreds of other poor looking souls!!!!!
mige

Nige, was that building by the tarmac car park, there was a cafe there aswell?

Possibly. The one i'm thinking of is near the pedestrian bridge ( Avon Bridge?) near the final corner before the start/finish straight. It was partly finished and hoards of us made a beeline for it as the rain poured down. It was quite a funny site with everybody crammed in looking like drowned rats. How the drivers managed to navigate the circuit I shall never know. I find it difficult enough in the dry!

The partly constructed building is going to be part of a technical college that they are building within the circuit.
I was speaking to a couple of guys connected with it at this years Autosport International (another 'must-do' event - normally Jan at the NEC).

I didn't know that . Thanx for the info. You never know I might bump into you and George at some future CC event!
nige

Sorry if this is a bump, but if you don't have a maxedrive you can't watch thie videos? Umm, rephrased do you need a maxdrive to watch vids only on GT4 or can you watch them on your comp, and if yes how.

To watch the replay, yes, you'd need a MaxDrive. It's basically the replay-file itself, so you'd need a device to move it back on your Memcard.
