SERIES FORMAT & RULES

A four race series using the Mini Cooper 1.3i done in homage of classic mid 1960's Mini Cooper S racing. We will be racing at the following circuits;

Race 1 (April 12-18, 2004): Smokey Mountain
Race 2 (April 19-25, 2004): Deep Forest 2
Race 3 (April 26 - May 2, 2004): Swiss Alps
Race 4 (May 3-9, 2004): Cote d' Azur

Races will all be single hot lap races run in the Arcade/Free Run Mode. Racers will have one full week to get their best time. All times are due before midnight (12:00am) EST (I am in New York City) on the final day of the race (always Sunday night). All times (final times AND sectors) are submitted via PM to me, Scuderia229.

The general rules are as follows (same as the weekly);

1. You must have 2 tires on the track at all times.
2. The rumble strips are considered part of the track.
3. No wall riding or touching.
4. No cutting the grass or short cutting.
5. No hybrids
6. No cheating of any kind.

Time Discussion: All "T" Times. (DO NOT discuss lap times in the race threads)

A x-port/sharkport is not needed for this race series but is prefered, otherwise you may be asked for your logger data to validate your lap time. I know most people in this series and this should not be an issue but please do not try to cheat. .XPS/.SPS files may be posted in the "Results" thread each week.

Car Specs: A Simulation Mini Cooper 1.3i...fully modified (178bhp). If you don't have the car (and don't have an x-port) it may be won in the Amateur League in the "European Championship". You will NOT be allowed to turn on both TC or ASM, both must be turned off for ALL racing (it is automatically off for rally events). Otherwise you can tune the car and adjust anything you want (no hybrids though), don't forget oil changes.

Tires: Each racer will have the three tire options below;
- Racing Slick (T3)
- Rally (two sets of these for the 2 rally races)
- Racing Soft (T7)

Racers will have to choose which tire to run on which circuit. If you run the "soft" (T7) tires on week two you MUST run the "slick" (T3) tires on week four, or vis-versa. Week one and three are rally races and you have only the rally tire option.

Please do not discuss your tire choices in the race thread, though from your sector times it may be obvious.

Points: This will be a points series. Points will break down as below;

1st = 10pts
2nd = 8pts
3rd = 6pts
4th = 5pts
5th = 4pts
6th = 3pts
7th = 2pts
8th = 1pt

Additionally 1pt will be awarded each week for EACH fastest sector. So a racer could come in 2nd overall but they also have the fastest T2 sector so they take home 9pts total for the week.

The overall series winner is the one who has the MOST points at the end of the four races. A tie in points would be broken by whoever has the faster four race combined time. If that still results in a tie the racer with more fastest sector time bonus points will win.

Weekly races will be determined by the fastest time (not points). So 1st place could post the fastest time, win the week and get 10pts but second place could be .020 slower overall but have the fastest T1 and T2 sectors and equal the 10pts for the week.

Nice format you found, scuderia.

But a bit stingy with the points, aren't you? ;)
I see the big ugly ZERO threatening in the distance. :lol:

Good luck to everybody. 👍

See you on the track.

Well I really have no idea how to tune for the dirt so I don't know if I can improve these much, but here's my splits from my first session:

24.051 / 39.221 / 1.02.655

Later everyone:cool:

I'm half way through trying to win the mini, the lotus elise 190 is coming second every race over the DB7!:eek:

Looking forward to this comp:D

After arc2 i think i have a bit more knowledge on the rally course's:cool:
Cote d' azur:(im no good there:cool:

What time do i submit? Im in england:confused:

Laters

eggmann (fixed...never noticed that before)

NeilsG....no worries, I think adding in the tires and points for fastest sectors should spread the points wealth a bit more than normal. We have some big GTP guns in this series and it will get very interesting.

----

A little note about my circuit selection.

I tried to pick surface and race types that a real life Mini would have raced on back in the 60s. Smokey Mtn is a classic rally-cross'ish race, a mix of high speed dirt and high speed sealed surface, alot like some classic rallys. Deep Forest 2 is in my opinion very represetative of some of the closed surface rally stages, especially in some of the european rallys. Twisty, a few technical places and all about tire choice. Swiss Alps is a very classic rally stage, one of the closer rally circuits in GT3 that mimic what you would find in a rally stage, high speed corners, jumps, twisty section, surface changes...all of it, as good as rally gets in GT3. Of course Cote d'azur...classic monte carlo street circuit, to run a mini here is the whole point of my series. I saw a Mini race at Monte Carlo on this circuit from the 60s on Speed channel over the winter, that is what set the idea in my mind to do this series...that should be a great finale to the series!!!!!

It was..hahaha. I actually ran a Mini siderace last week in the weekly which is what got more people into this as a series. We race Rome in reverse with the rest of the weekly cars.....

HighonPSI won that one.... :-)

Got none. :)

Everything looks perfect for my goal in this series. To learn to drive with manual.

After first session: 24.5 - 40.2 - 1'04.6
Messed up between T2 and T3.

It is a good little car to learn that, though next week might be better. At smokey you are really only using the top 3 gears, mostly the top 2. I guess learning to optimize shift points and keep RPMs up is good.

Not that I am an expert but I switched to Manual transmission AND left foot braking about 2 weeks before I joined the weekly (week 48). It has been a learning process. Only recently do I think I am "getting it".

Un-related....I think a Mini around Smokey is one fun drive. It is true to real world Mini capabilities but I think Smokey is also best done in FF cars....so this is good.

Shoot 'em down.:lol:

Looks like I lose about .100 from T1 to T2, and .500 from T2 to T3, which is about what I figured...Nice target to shoot for LDM:D

nice sectors guys.....We have some new sign-ups for the series, the top 5 spots are going to be TIGHT!

I haven't had a chance to run this yet other than my recon laps when I was planning the series (I'll spare you the sectors). I will be sitting down tonight with a fresh Mini and tuning it....I'm glad people are enjoying this.

T1/24.166
T2/39.328
T3/1'02.227
Still time left out on the track. I was ahead of this ghost when I brushed the wall just before T3 so I know I can get lower.
I almost got under 24 seconds at T1 also.:mischievous:

Remember guys...there are points on the table for fastest sectors in this series (3 in this race), so there is an incentive to work on those as well. As close as I think the final results will be any points will help make the difference in this case.

Just to be clear. The "fastest" sectors will come out of your 1 submitted lap! You can't submit your final lap time AND then your best sectors from other laps. It is all within your final submitted lap. Again incentive to reach a final time you like and then possibly go back and work on cleaning up a sector or two for those points.

So ya, don't forget to submit your sectors (out of the submitted lap) with your final lap time.

Yeah! Its there. :irked: I have seen under 24, under 39, and under 1'02 but not all in the same lap and not all in a clean lap.:mischievous:

My fastest lap so far does not have that great of sectors.:banghead:

Shouldn't 4 points be awarded? :confused:

I sent a PM about this and found that the bonus points are for fastest T-times, not actual sector times.

Yes, eggmann did send me a msg about this...

I am using "sectors" as the "numbers that show up on your screen when you pass check points".

techincally there are "4" sectors....but I am sticking to awarding points to the "3" that Gt3 displays and the ones we discuss here. As far as I am concerned you are awared for a fast 4th sector with whatever points you you get for your overall time.

My other idea, that I threw out, for sector points was picking the one "key" sector for each circuit and awarding 3 points for that. I threw that out because I was going for smooth and constant driving, not going fast in sacrifice of the other sectors. Plus giving 3 extra points per week which could go to three seperate people in theory spreads the wealth a touch and will make the points battle a bit more interesting in this short series.

To clarify... "Sector points" will be award for the 2-3 sectors that GT3 shows splits for.

If it makes you happier call them "split time bonus points". In that language there is no forth split time on this track, if you really want one it is your final time.

Or I'll just say 1 pt is awarded for the fastest 2-3 "T" times for the week.

But I'll refer to them as sectors, like most others (for technically right or wrong) in racing do.

:-)
