It seems since i've gained a few levels , that i am now getting mini freezes , ie , the game seems to halt for a spit second then carries on again , as if each frame come to a stop then resumes again , this is happenning on all tracks with all cars , any ideas ? by the way i'm on ps3 .

I think its the psn connection. its kind of slow these days (DUH) and everytime you start end an event that little green light flashes... might be it

I get a little glitch when someone quits online, but I havn't had any such thing in the offline section of the game

Dirty disc, or disc drive on the way out maybe?

I've also been experiencing these mini freezes while playing solo, and like you said, they happen on any track, and while driving any car, slow or fast! I have a fat 2 years old Ps3, I don't know if this could explain part of the problem...

I have also experienced the mini glitch, and I take it as an omen leading to a big freeze while I'm driving high performance cars. In that case I finish my race or series and quit and restart the game. Since then I have had no serious game freezes.

I'm getting them too. Probably a frame rate issue. I've noticed it'll happen when theres alot cars in front me and mainly going through tight turns with a few cars around me.

I get them when on the grid sometimes randomly. Before the races go green. One restart (of the race) will start me off at a 90 degree angle but will not freeze. Finally another restart fixes the issue...

i wouldn't expect it to be my ps3 its not a year old yet !! although i suppose that means nothing , i took th disc out and give it a good clean , but it has made no difference , the thing is , i also play dirt 3, gt5 , and bad company 2 , and i dont have any mini freezes with these games whatsoever , whether i'm online , or just playing solo/campaign . just seems strange that it happens only on shift

Fudge! I just got the game today. This thing is unplayable. I play with nearly all settings off on GT5 and Forza but I can't anywhere. Seriously. I can't even finish the first trial race better than last. I updated to 1.02 and the controls seem off and I am getting dropped frames at every single turn. Even the practice 2 laps with the GT-R. No cars, no nothing just me taking two laps.

yeah the dropped frames are very annoying ,takes away the " moment" as you play if you know what i mean , regarding the playability /handling issues you are having , i think it takes time to adjust to the steering lag that is ever present in shift , theres a huge difference between gt5's handling and shift's handling characteristics , but once you begin to adopt , i think , imo , that you will begin to enjoy it , give it a bit more time , anticipate the corners and turn in quicker .
By the way i went online with gt5 ( one of the extremely rare occasions where i can actually join a room -- sucess rate is 1 in 10 ) and i got completely trashed by the other players , i was trying to drive like i do in shift , and was turning in way too early , and over compensating for just about everything , it got better after about 30mins or so , then i got disconnected :indiff::ill:

I played GT5 for a bit last week and experienced the same :)

wouldn't it be brilliant if all the different software houses could get together and agree on a steering system that could be used across the board without all the different issues , then swopping between different games would then not have to be like starting from scratch for the first 30 mins or so :scared: i know i'll never happen -- just dreaming is all :)

I went back again last night and figured out part of the issue. One being the deadzone with my controller. I set it up using the setting I found on the forum and when I hit a straightaway, I realized my car was veering right pretty badly. I have to keep the deadzone close to 50% to eliminate it. I am still using the trusty old Sixaxis controller. eek!!
The other issue being the lag/ early turn in you speak off. Gave that a try today and doing a lot better. Yeah, the handling is no where near GT5. But this game isn't as fun as I remember either. I bought the first Shift game early last year and had a total blast with it. Loved it. Loved the challanges, loved the races and the cars. The approach they took with making it an arcade/ simulator was fun. I could drive it like a simulator but still have fun intentionally wrecking cars if I wanted. I miss that here.
Maybe I need to pop that back in and play that instead.
I think I will let this collect dust till the next update and try it again. I didn't pay a lot for it but it'd be worth next to nothing if I trade it in so I am better just holding on to it anyways.

totally agree with you , by the way i think you may find things even better if you can manage to get a wheel , having said that i find the small tight twisty tracks on shift 2 a nightmare with a wheel , got to mess with steering rotation settings/sensitivity ect , for small tracks , which can be a bit of a bore too , having to keep changeing settings , they should have made it like the tuning , ie -- save different settings .

ok heres a strange one , if i'm connected tothe internet when playing shift 2 via the autolog wall , i get the mini freezes i explained above , like a sort of frame rate drop out happening on all tracks with all cars , if i disconnect from the internet and play shift 2 offline the mini freezes disappear , and things are a lot smoother , anyone got any ideas why ? its not as if i'm actually racing anyone online , i'm just playing career mode !!

plus a green light doesn't really explain mini freezes while connected to the autolog wall , and no mini freezes when not connected , or am i on the wrong track here  what does the green light indicate ? is it on/flashing while connected and disconnected ?

The green light is the light that indicates net traffic. It should be next to the yellow light (disk drive activity). My PS3 is a FAT and the lights are next to USB ports (stupid place)

ok i've found where the green light is , and its the same place as yours , but i've been both online racing with others , and on career mode ,and the light does not flash !! it stayed out .
like i say as soon as i disconnect from the internet the mini freezes dissapear , as soon as i connect again they reappear

Are you using a "wireless" netw. connection? I don't get any mini-freezes as you call them but I am wired. Tried wireless some time ago but had occassional AutoLog disconnects. AutoLog disconnects and mini-freezes don't necessarily have anything in common but it worth a shot.
