mission #34

I am the Gingerbreadman, because you can't catch me! At least that what I like to think, ha ha. Have completed 97.7%, A-spec points 21798, Licenses gold 2, silver 9, bronze 69 (kinda like that #). I just blew through all of them on the 1st night to get all the licenses and haven't touched them since. But the real reason for this thread is mission #34. This is the most challenging and the last race I have to win. I have been trying for a week now and just can't seem to master that piece of garbage Benz. It annoys me most to have to wait 2 minutes to get going, although that is the GAME. I have read the other threads about this mission but would like to know who has completed this mission and how long it took you.

first up, if you have 97.7% done - there is more than just this one mission before you are done (try looking for any bronzes hiding in races (they look the same as golds on my tv)).

secondly, you are obviously still at the i hate the benz stage of mission 34. takes a while to learn the car and being to embrace what it offers you. believe me you will love it by the time you finally complete the mission.

in terms of hints - i am sorry but i don't have any real ones. i don't know which corners to cut or any of that rubbish because i stayed on the black stuff when i did it. best bet is to just practice heaps. i practiced in the mission and it helped to have something else to do during the wait. also make sure you always finish the mission even if you know you aren't going to win - that way you will get a good idea of what the rest of the course offers.

finally good luck, and try moving this thread to the main forum, because this is forum is mainly for race reports...

Took me a day and a half of dedicated attention. I have not golded the Nurburgring licenses, and used Mission 34 as practise for itself, because the one licence test has a Merc 190, and M34 is an SLR. The SLR is faster on the straights but seems to have less grip, so rather practice in the car that you need to learn in, and also with the driving aids on (as they are in the mission).... anyway, half of the practise is learning when to pass the other cars, and learning where you should be on the split times.

For me the key was smoothness and not speed. Getting the SLR to turn in was the biggest obstacle and to do that I braked earlier than felt natural, got the nose tucked tightly into the apex, and then the car would usually accept full throttle for the exit. On my second last attempt I finished half a second behind, and since this was after a full Saturday of trying, when I was on my final attempt (in 3rd at the kink at the end of the long straight) I just did not bother to lift off the throttle for the final complex, went flying (literally) past 2nd place, punted the 300SL into the armco, and ended up facing the right way. My 5 second penalty was nearly finished by the time my car slithered to a halt for the last corner, and I recovered before the 300SL to win by 3 seconds :) I'll never know if I would have won it by staying on the black stuff in that go, and don't really care. What I do know is that I sure as hell wasn't going to risk losing to the 300SL by 0.0001 of a second and having to sit on the starting line listening to the AI goons blipping their throttles for another 2 minutes. I've never gone back to the mission.

It took me 3 evenings of around 2 hours racing. My tip: buy a stock SLR and practice in time trial mode. Even though the handling is not exactly the same as in the mission, you will learn the track and the car's behavior.
btw, you should be reported for calling the SLR garbage... ;)

I suggest that you gold the licenses before, It'll make you a better driver. Practice on the ring. learn the way the srl handles. then try mission 34 and keep something with not value that you can break if you fail reapetidly , and if you can't seem to make it then take a break, go walk around and come back after 15 min and you'll be better

yeah im 98.8% done...mission 34 is tough, ive only come within 17 seconds of the 300 SL.

btw...I watch TV for those 2 minutes :) Using the TV/AUX button on the remote I can flip between my favorite shows and the game

as was previously said buy an SLR and go on time trial the time you are looking for is about 7:14 and provided you can do that about 3-4 times on the go you've got it in the bag, when i did it i had to go off road in an SLR on the last corner as i did the complex but couldn't brake due to a stuk button pulled the handbrake slammed the back on the wall and past the two cars on that last straight by about .4 of a second and then jumped up in celebration:dunce: knowing i've just completed the game then thought oh crap what am i going to play now:indiff:

seriously i think im done after i finish cleaning up the formula gt race (got 5th, b-spec on nurbergring)...the missions really are pissing me off. I miss having a real race (like on the last series on beginner league in GT3) where there is no tire wear and 10,000cr prize money that I could "test" cars on; instead of some bull**** 500cr for a "family meet". Ah so many things i miss about gt3 that i wish gt4 had intergrated in to; i cant bring myself tomplay GT3 any more though :(

Making 7:14's on flying laps in Free Run isn't enough if he has NTSC version. The winning time of the mission in NTSC is about 9:13 (+/- 0.3 seconds). So flying laps have to be around 7:04. Standing start vs. flying lap causes a small difference too, but because the start straight is so short it's not very big difference.
