New EvoIX Sedan spy shots

That's right, it's the new Evo IX, supposedly going on sale in 2005.

But, of more interest might be these scans of an article from a Japanese magazine that I found on the evolutionm.net forums.

If anyone here reads Japanese, it would be much appreciated if you could give us a breif review of the article.

As for what a non-Japanese reading person can pick up, it looks like the infamous 4G63 could be getting a makeover, and the new IX will lap the Nurburgring in about 8 minutes flat. But, obviously the most significant pictures of the article come at the end. We have a shot of the 'baby' Evo based on the upcoming Colt, and a shot of an Evo sation wagon! This is the first I've ever heard of such a car, and I am very excited at the prospect of a station wagon Evo! Imagine a wagon that can do 0-60 in under 5 seconds, run the 1/4 mile in under 14 seconds, and have sports car handling! The ultimate sleeper car!

Actually I remember before the evo VII came out i read in a magazine there was talk of an evo wagon then, I guess they may have finally decided to do it.

Well there was a lancer wagon, in 2002 I think, but it was just the normal FWD variant of a normal lancer.

Hmmm, the rear gets a fairly obvious pair of venturi vents 👍. And apart from the two oval openings in the front bumper, the biggest noticeable change is... the lack of the bucktooth. Even on the Colt, it's vanished. I suppose Mitsubishi realized how unfavourable that looked.

Here's hoping the new version (I'm assuming one of the slightly more powerful FQ versions) can fight it's way under the 8 minute mark at Green Hell. The Spec-C STi managed it a short while ago, and naturally, the battle must continue 👍

awesome. i always hated that nasty centerpiece.

nissan needs to follow suite as well... those middle piece things kill the whole look.

i wonder what the holes are for? factory foglights?

anyway the redesigned bumper reminds me of the early Evos. It looks more round and flatface. Also the rear end looks nicer.

I would buy a Evo wagon before I bought a Evo sedan. Image means nothing to me, and wagons are more useful, and less conspicuous.

I see plenty of WRX (non-STi) wagos on the streets here in Boston, so I would assume that there is at least a decent market for such a car.

They have a Lancer Wagon here in Hong Kong. I think it uses the same turbo engine as the Airtrek.

This was the 2003 model

The current version is basically the same, but based on the 2004 facelift Lancer

Here's an older artists impression of the IX just in case anyone's interested, although we know it won't look like this

The back lights look like the Lexus IS series.

In Canada, we have the Lancer Wagon on sale here (known as the Lancer Sportback I believe). Unfortunately, I don't think it's selling too well, but then again the entire market for wagons in Canada is extremely limited based on what I see on the streets of Toronto.

I don't see a problem with a Lancer Evolution wagon, considering it'd be competition to vehicles like the WRX Sportwagon. Also don't forget things such as the old Mitsubishi Legnum VR-4 and the Nissan Stagea.

Knowing the Evo's level of performance, I'd wager the Evo wagon would be a very worthy opponent of the RS4 Avant on the track. And imagine what will happen when tuners like Vishnu get their hands on the Evo wagon! Station wagons that have supercar performance!

In a car magazine in the uk (autoexpress) the Evo 9 is shown with a strip of small vertcal fins above the rear window. it is supposed to smooth airflow to the rear wing and increase downforce

The MR edition of the VIII already employs the vertical fins.

Looks just like the 8. Different front and back. Nothing new. I am surprised though, due to Mitsubishi's current status.

Mitsubishi has had several variants of the Lancer Evolution in station wagon form for the last 5 yrs or so.

In the Caribbean there is the Mitsubishi Libero wagon...1800cc turbo AWD based on the GSR platform of the Evo.

Now there is the Cedia wagon awd turbo 2000cc.

For those that may not know...in HK, Europe and the Caribbean...for the Evolution PRIOR to the EVO VII... a GSR..(same look as a Evo) was available...however it came with the 1800cc turbo and AWD.

HAHA what a joke, it looks like a lowered van.

just like all those gay fixed up vans in japan.

HAHAHA
Well, you've been out of luck for a while now, and you just keep pressing it. Good bye. No one will mourn your loss.

Wow. That's like when a teacher gets REALLY mad at a student and sends them out of the room. But this time, they are sent out of the room for good.
