Resurrecting this thread for more Mitsubishi news.

Chrysler has announced their scaled back dealings with Mitsubishi. Mitsu will gain a pickup truck based off of the Dodge Dakota (funny how in just over a decade that gets reversed ;) ), starting construction next year. Chrysler also plans to still use the next generation Lancer platform underneath the Neon, PT Cruiser, as well as the new Stratus/Sebring, although I still hear rumors of that being on a shortened LX platform like the Chrysler Airflite Concept.

Plans for a Mitsubishi badged Dodge Caravan/Chrysler Town & Country minivan however are currently off. Chrysler also has toyed with the idea of Mitsubishi selling a rebadged Durango, but this is now even less likely then the minivan.

Chrysler claims they wont rule out further shared development, but not until Mitsubishi turns itself around, this after a 45.7% sales drop in just a month.

A buddy of mine bought a 1987 Mitsu Starion in late-1993, his dad worked for Mitsu at the time, so he had it running in tip-top contition. Nice car, something different, although in bright red, it definately attracted attention from the cops. The turbo blew up about 3 years later, and it was only used on weekends for a few more years. I learned to drive a stick rear-wheel drive car on a Starion; a very different expereince than a downshifting a front-driver!

It's funny how all the high-end Japanese sports-cars of the mid-1980's had stereo equalizers built right into the radio. Just one of those "perfectionist" things that sports-car drivers might want to play around with while waiting in traffic.

So what you're saying is, Chrysler are taking mitsubishi down with them...
:sly: :sly: :sly: :sly:

to get more specific, the eclipse/talon's mechanical parts where pretty much mitsubishi. like the drivetrain, chassis, and engine had mitsubishi engineering in it, while the body was mostly done by chrysler. mitsubishi did finishing touches to the outside appearance, like bumpers, and side skirts.

*rubs eyes and again looks awkwarldy at it*

Is Dodge trying to copy Mitsibishi? That think looks a lot like the (80's, not '70) Daytona!

But I'm pretty sure the Daytona is FF, like the Ford Probe  Also, the daytona has a different hood, nose and taillight design. It might be built on another platform, am unsure. All I know is Daytonas are poprular, cheap, and easy to find in general, let alone compared to the Starion, which I have only seen once, as an (dealer-described) 'Evolution' model, in a used premium car dealer.

More reason to believe it's not the Conquest/Sirion: Unlike the Mitsu/Chrysler, there was an earlier model with fixed headlamps:

Also, in '92 the Daytona got a facelift, while the others were apparently discontinued

Based on how it looks on the later model's nose, I'd say it's off the Avenger platform. Just a guess...

The Starion/Conquest aren't related whatsoever to the Daytona. Neither is the Avenger.

The Daytona and Chrysler twin Laser (which didn't make it past 1986) are on a platform Chrysler called 'AG'. It borrows heavily from the K-cars. In reality, a Daytona, much like a Caravan or Dynasty or Acclaim, is a big K-car.

The Daytona does look like a Starion though.

Has anyone got the game Live For Speed? because the 'XR GT' is basically a Starion.
