The Houston Dynamo played their first game at Robertson Stadium, which is usually the football field for the Houston Cougars and the Texas Southern Tigers. Some controversy among the Mexican folk here in Houston forced a name change after the inital name was the Houston 1836. But, they are the Dynamo. It is supposed to be a name to resemble power and energy. So, they played the Colorado Rapids in their first game. They were formerly the San Jose Earthquakes.

"Dynamic Dynamoes"

The Dynamo ended up with their first goal in the 12th minute by Brian Ching, who played on the U.S. national soccer team. After Robertson Stadium celebrated, Colorado celebrated two minutes later to deadlock the game. It's one all, and game on. Another Dynamo challenge came around the 19th Minute, but failed to kiss the inside of the net. Another great challenge came in the 32nd minute, but the Rapids were rapid in their defensive coverage of the ball. Then, Ching picks up goal #2 as #25 bangs in the second goal for the Dynamo in the 36th Minute. Ching is doggone near a Hat Trick in his first game in H-Town! Forget Doggone near... brian Ching picked up #3 on the night in the 44th Minute. First game, first hat trick! Give that boy a hat! It's getting hot in Houston! At the half, Houston led 3-1. After the break, the Dynamo goalie collected a goal and then had a Rapid accidentally kick the Dynamo defender in the nose. I think he would be okay, the game would go on. After a Dynamo penalty, the Rapids cash in a goal to make it 3-2 in the 53rd Minute. The 63rd Minute seen Colorado pick up the third Yellow Card for a total of three yellows for Colorado and none for Houston. More people filed in as the count went out to 25,462 people in the stands at Robertson Stadium, which can sort of hold 35,000. Ching strikes again in the 73rd Minute, this time in traffic. He's one point away from tying the record for most goals on opening day, and of course two from breaking it. Now it's ten regulation minutes left as Houston led 4-2. In stoppage time, a shocking incident occured- someone other than Ching scored. Mr. Moreno bicycle kicked a short goal to make it 5-2. And the team formerly known as the San Jose Earthquakes just shook up Houston and the MLS. Dynamo gets five goals- four by Ching and one by Moreno. Houston's looking good in their debut season. (4-2; HOUSTON)

Houston's next game is vs. the Kansas City Wizards this Saturday. How far do you think the team formerly known as the San Jose Earthquakes will fare in America's Space City?

LOL. Yeah right. Who knows, though.

I don't know why they just don't say FC Houston or etc.

It took you all THIS long to come up with a post about them? I'm just joking! Cheer up.

I think I've heard of when J-League team, Yokohama F-Marinos, upset Manchester United once. Well, I don't see the Houston Dynamo upsetting anyone from the English Premier League, Bundesliga, or even Futbol La Liga Mexicana. The Dynamo are going to play their first road game when they go to play DC United. Anytime you play a road game, you have to deal with the crowd going against you, sometimes making a road win seem tougher. Just ask the folks in college football when a team like Memphis goes on the road to play Tennessee at Neyland Stadium and all the 100,000+ Volunteer fans in attendance. After Saturday, the Dynamo returns home and plays Real Salt Lake.

First off, it's DC United. And I think we may already have an all-star on our team, Mr. Brian Ching seems to be the best gamebreaker on my hometown team. After all, he banged in a hat trick to have Houston beat the Colorado Rapids.

I still think Houston 1836 would have been a better name for the team. Other options could have been FC Houston, Houston United, or something like that. But we'll take Dynamo despite the controversy from our Mexican community here in Houston.
