I wish to thank the Mods for maintaining the best GT5 site available for us fans. With that said, I have a couple questions about GTP.

1) Does it seem there has been less mod activity in the last couple of months?

2) Does Jordan or any of the brass here have inside contacts with Sony or PD?

There is always the best and most reliable information here. It would be nice to organize something for the GTP executives that keep this place alive. I didn't go premium for prestige, just to support the site. Is there anything further we could do?

As a quick bit of background, every warning and infraction is logged automatically in its own forum, accessible by every member of staff. On the basis of this forum, no, there hasn't been less mod activity - in fact I think we've been busier than ever. You have to remember that only the staff and the member concerned know what occurs between that member and the staff unless the staff opt for a more public approach or the member decides to publicise his case - most staff activity is unseen.

As to the second question, yes, yes we do.

We did Florida last year - Daytona, KSC, Miami, Keys and Dry Tortugas.

Oddly, my knee gripes and my wife's hypermobility disappeared while we were there and for nearly a month afterwards. My dad reported something similar with his arthritis when he went to Atlanta (and Okeefenokee) in 1996. But I digress


Seriously though, we feel plenty appreciated. We do the job Jordan asks us to - looking after the site we love and keeping it as close to his vision of it as we can. So long as we have that blue badge (even a pale blue one!) we're doing it right. We don't really need anything more than that

This seems to indicate something good, the immature behavior of some novelty games has gone down and the hard core Gran Turismo fans are taking the lead again.

Immature behavior will persist though, it is part of the ecosystem. The mods are not out of the moderation job yet.

Sorry for the off topic but would you recommend Florida, Famine? Me and my girlfriend are going to the US next year and so far Florida has been our first choice! I've been before but I was 7 years old...

I left New York 10 years ago and moved to Florida. I don't know your interest, but I can give you some pros and cons from a locals perspective.
Pros:
Miles and Miles of beaches, mostly clean and well maintained.
Excellent deep sea or fresh water fishing.
Competitive rates for a Caribean destination.
Airboat tours, Casinos, Nightclubs, etc.
Disney World if you have kids.
Excellent state parks and trail systems.
Alot of money in Florida, you'll see Ferraris, Lambos, hell I saw a Gumpert on the way to work last week.
Cons:
Summer= Hot! Temps reach into the mid 90's with 100% humidity.
Winter= Busy! Many people from up north flock south for the season.
(Winter is still the best time to visit with perfect temps and star filled nights)
Police. 80 mph is normal on our highways, but do not speed in town. You will get a ticket. Also, as you'll probably rent a car, upgrade it. Americans love big cars but for some reason a standard rental will find you behind the wheel of a Ford Focus. I'd go at least mid-size for a Chevy Classic or full size for a Marquis. Luxury will get you a sweet Caddy or Jag.
Miami. I know it's a popular place, just way to busy.
Orlando. Of course Disney is here, so are bad drivers. I-4 is one of the most frustrating interstates in the U.S.

To summarize, if kids are going it's Disney all the way.
If it's you and the wife I recommend the west side of Florida. Places like Panama City, Destin, even Tampa. They have white sand beaches, less crowds, lower prices, and better state parks. This is coming from a guy that lives in Jacksonville.

Thank you very much for the kind words, XXI. Premium membership is a great way to support the site, as those funds directly help me pay monthly infrastructure costs. You can also give Premium membership as a gift to your friends.

Of course, simply participating in discussions here is the best way to ensure the community remains strong and lively. Honestly, myself and the staff can only do so much - without community members like you, who really care for GTPlanet's well-being, the site would not be what it is today.

GTPlanet is awesome. It's quite a shame though, it's doesn't feel so lively as it was after the release date of GT5. Less and less people seem to be contributing.

Don't despair, TankAss95, that's just how it goes with such a tightly-focused forum - the site is always much more active when new GT games are released. Otherwise, traffic and posting rates have held steady since last spring, and GTPlanet actually just set a new single-day visitor record after GT5 Spec 2.0 was released.

Man, let me give you a piece of advice. Use common sense and think about what you have typed before you post it. Just remember, if it isn't all right to say in public, it's probably not all right to say in here. If you ever feel like someone is trying to goad you into posting something that's gonna get you kicked, just report the post and walk away from the thread. If you do this, you shouldn't have anything else to worry about. Merry Christmas!

If you read the AUP carefully and abide by it you will be fine because that is why it is there & no mod will bother you if you are compliant so there's no need to withdraw completely.

Also re-read your posts not only for potentially aggressive or inappropriate content but also for grammatical infractions. Do that and you will be left alone

You do a cracking job and thanks to you my laptop gets twice as much activity I have met some great people through this site and feel part of a tight knit community. Yes to both of those means you should be safe to post it. No to either one is what can get you into hot water.

I appreciate the mods here. They do their best and a fine job it is.
I guess at the end of the year it's only right to say: "Thanks! guys." And yes, it's OK to make things go 'poof!'.

I'm sure the gift that we can give to all the moderators, to which we all can do, is provide less instances that need moderation. I'm sure they'd rather spend time posting positive things, rather than researching infractions and such.

I don't want them to "go away", but I'd rather see more of them, like the banter on the first page. I'm just thinking from my point of view being in management... it's much more fun when I don't have to manage and can enjoy and help those I support.

GTplanet allows me to interact and find friends that are similar to myself and share the same interests. It has really pulled me out of the first person shooter crowd, something I desperately needed. I'm spending 20-30 hours a week on GT5 these days.
It's known that PD and Sony are very aware of our community and possibly even respect the strength in numbers we have. I was thinking the other night of a way to connect GT5 with GTplanet further. Take it to the next level, if you will. This may sound unrealistic, but how about the GTplanet logo as an icon at the GT5 home screen? Click this icon and it automatically brings you to The PD server with a complete list of online GTP_ users. What lobbies are open to join for a quick race, or upcoming event calendars, etc.
Think of this like Call of Duty elite. We would have to pay for the services, but it would give hardcore players a "premium" status, and a place to race that is rock solid and reliable following GTP race regulations. Some may say we can already do this within our private lobbies. There are thousands of GTP_ accounts, this would bring alot more people together.

To make it simple:

Don't curse, don't lie, and don't steal.
Don't flame others, don't flood the boards, and don't use chat-speak. Essentially, don't say anything you wouldn't say to your girlfriend's grandmother.

Avoid using emotion as a reason to post anything.

Do make sense, do stay on topic, and do be nice, whenever possible.

Be entertaining and interesting, and especially helpful. One helpful post to others is better than 3000 short, "yeah, me too" posts.

The toughest thing of all: Use restraint, unless your post is a masterwork of near-perfection.

(None of this seems to matter in the Marketplace, for some reason, it's the bathroom stall's wall of GTPlanet.)

While that'd be seriously cool, it's unlikely for the simple reason we're not affiliated with PD or Sony in any way - Jordan's created this site all on his own.

What would be pretty handy would be a clan tag option in the game, similar to Fat Princess, Forza, and many first-person shooters. Of course, those are typically limited to 100 or so members, and obviously, we're much bigger than that. Until Sony pumps up the Friend List limits past the current 100 (which really, probably the easiest way to find fellow GTP'ers is through room numbers here on the boards instead of in-game 👍

On the topic of avoiding infractions - really, a vast majority of our members have none, as it's mostly common sense. If you wouldn't say it in front of a grade-school classroom, chances are it probably won't fly here. While quality is always preferable to quantity, ironically some of our highest post-count members are the best examples to follow. Well, some of them

Very true, I follow the creed of: If someone makes me angry or got under my skin, just walk away (or close the window). Come back in a few hours or days and it'll be fine. If I'm still irritated, then just simply and politely private message the person to see eye to eye. That usually works. I hope others would use this if they don't already, as most times, it's a simple misunderstanding.
