Modern car designs ugly?

But going back to what I said about Audis further up, I find it hard to describe any of the modern ones as anything worse than inoffensive. I'm not a particular fan of Audis, but they're generally pretty cohesive. Probably the best way I can describe them is they're a bit like that celebrity whose name you can't remember because there's nothing particularly memorable about them and they've never really stood out in a role.
I just looked up at the S line model and it looks okay but you could say with most Audi models being that the S line trim is considerably a more desirable look with the more aggressive style. But in my opinion I would rather choose the X6 over the Q2 which I presume is a rival to this car.

I agree that Audi cars look better in the flesh. The weird rendering environment and lighting always looks really awkward and unnatural. I've seen the new A4 and TT in personal and they both look pretty good. The new Q7 is okay. I dislike the large chrome grille though.

I think that good car design should try to push the envelope. When the Ferrari 458 was presented I didn't like it at all, but now I think it looks fantastic. When the Nissan Leaf was presented I thought it looked awful, but now I think it actually looks pretty great.

By contrast I thought that the Tesla Model S looked amazing when it was presented, but now it's kind of boring, because it doesn't challenge anything. Like it's all sugar and no spice.

I also think that a lot of modern cars can be difficult to get your head around until you see them in real life, they often have a lot of sculptural features that you need to experience in 3D to fully understand. Like the contemporary Toyotas and Lexus that I think look weird in pictures, but in real life they make a lot more sense.

I think that was kind of the point with the Model S. It's radically different mechanically, within it's segment, but it looks quite conventional so it appeals to boardroom-level buyers who might otherwise go Audi A7, Panamara, Merc CLS etc.

The X6 is about three class sizes bigger - if Audi made a Q7 coupe of some sort, that'd be an X6 rival. The Q2 is on the MQB platform and sits below the Q3 (as the name suggests).

I think that's absolutely stunning. Actually, it may end up being next as the ZDX is 5 now.
