Modified Track Path Editor + Tracks/Discussion

It's great just playing around with this, but the Ted Editor will not work for me as i keep getting a message saying that the module numpy is missing...can't find him anywhere :(

Yes, the Ted Editor requires a few additional modules and unfortunately it's much too complicated to install those in Python. What's worse is that most tutorials say that it's easy to install new modules, but I guess they were written by computer geniuses :P

I managed to install one module myself (pygame), but it took me about a year to figure out how to do that... and I don't remember how I did it.

This is a copy of what @tarnheld told me to do.

Try to install numpy and Pillow: open a terminal/cmd.exe and type:

python -m pip install numpy Pillow

If you can't run python from the commandline and the above command fails, try to replace the python with the full path to the python exe:

C:\Program Files\pythonX.Y.Z\python.exe -m pip install numpy Pillow

Then leave the commandline open and navigate to the ted-editor folder and run

<Python> ted-editor.py

If it fails again at least it should show the error code.

Edit: I did find opening the cmd box from within the python folder was easier to install rather than typing the whole line from desktop.

Welp, so far I plotted my new Touge. I got the elevation profile for it. Now I need to somehow implement those values to the actual touge. I don't think I can master the decorations yet. Although, I was thinking. Could it be possible to use decoration codes from other themes like Eifle and Death Valley and use them on Andalusia and vice versa?

You can't deco swap... unfortunately.

Thanks for trying, but i just get the message "syntax error" ..i give up lol

Okay, I'm trying to make high banked ovals and currently I'm having issues with the banking just randomly popping in and out in the corners. Anyone have any tips? Also want to make the course a little bit wider. I'm using the Track Layout creator.

Can you take a screenshot of the track (with the polygon displayed as well)?

Not necessarily related but, have you tested using multiple straight sections in a row @eran0004 that may help mitigate the issues with banking into a home straight that make oval making difficult.

@NingDynasty regarding issues banking into the home straight. You can always reverse the effect.

Another little trick :)

Example:
Instead of having the final road segment @banking 10 trying to blend into the home straight @banking 0 for say 150m via next & previous simply make the home straight @banking 10 aswell but then the following road segment make @banking 0 with previous set @450 (based on a 600m home straight.

So example from
Road 50, banking 10, next 150
Road 1, banking 0, previous 150

To example
Road 50, banking 10, next 0
Road 1, banking 10, previous 0, next 450
Road 2, banking 0, previous 450

That way you'll get a blend of 150m into the home straight.

Edit: hope this makes sense lol

I am trying to correct the Bugatti circuit false 'run out of track' bug in time trial mode on the last corner.
I have a working track now but there is an annoying bump at the track loop end (start of the straight).
Bugatti Map Track Bug.png

I have made the slope constant between -40m / +40m of the track end under EXCEL (alt diff is 1,4m so very smooth and constant slope).
The bump is still there anyway.

Have you already experienced such effect ? Do you know how to correct it ?

Just saw this:
wonder if it's True?
The wonderful tools may have a brighter Future.
Hints that the TPE might carry into GT Sport?

It should be great news that we can continue using our custom tracks when GT Sport will be out.
Hopefully we will remain able to read GT6 TPE format (according to GT Sport expected graphic quality, extended binary format might be released if TPE capability is kept).

Could be a camber bump, i.e. a sudden change of camber angle.

i have checked the banking, the bump is still there.
I have divided the last 90° corner in 2 x 45° small ones, seems to be better.
I have flattened the last 5 meters and first 5 meters of the track, seems better.
But there is still a small brutal bump when existing the last corner that try to push you out of the track by surprise whereas you seemed stuck on the road.

I will try a bit more modifications tomorrow by adding an extra part (like 10 meters) before connecting the real straight line. I suspect some effect from the first straight segment.

This is really something related to the connection between the end of the track and the beginning.
I need to investigate a bit more.

I have entered the altitude values manually in the TED file from EXCEL sheet (constant slope) with last point altitude = first point altitude.
I had an hawful triangle bump at the connection that i corrected with elevation editor (still a bit bumpy anyway)

It seems that my end and first (Edit) points are not able to be connected correctly.

Here is version 1.6.1 of the Track Layout Creator:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/course-maker-toolbox.352281/#post-11706459

Changes:
  • Turn radius limit has changed. The old limit was that a turn could only occupy up to 50% of the distance to another polygon point. The new limit is that a corner can expand until it touches the end of the previous corner, or until it touches the next polygon point.
  • Corners can now have a radius of 0 meters. This omits the turn and just draws two straights in a row instead. Note: Only use 0 radius corners when the corner angle is very small (close to 0 degrees). With greater angles the track may not work properly in the game.
  • You can now set the number of sectors that you want your track to have (min 2, max 10)
  • Display options have been moved up to the menu bar (ran out of space in the left column :P)

Has anyone been able to develop a fix for after the servers are closed? As it stands now, you can only use downloaded tracks when you are online.

Online only is a huge design flaw of this course maker. Without a connection you can't drive your tracks, but even if they patch that, the entire track import depends on server availability. This sums it up pretty well. Based on PD's track record, servers won't remain active for long once GT Sport drops. In fact, since GTS was planned much earlier, it was probably supposed to be long gone by now.

That and the fact there's even less environments than GT5's creator took my interest in modding this, although I enjoyed trying some of the longer and crazier tracks players created with these tools. So, thanks to everyone who puts time into this. Great to see there's still progress being made. :)

A game patch is needed, so only PD can do that.

Edit: New track. A 20 km tour around the Andalusia map. Decorations have not been added yet.

I like it, it reminds me of my course, Vuelta a la Sierra.

The humps were well placed. Although the left side of the course seems kinda willy nilly. It has a good feel when I race my stock rides.

I have found the error.
For any reason, the first and last points (same point) were not using the altitude from the .txt file imported in elevation editor (really little difference from requested value that was not easy to notice).

So, the track profile was correct except that first and last point were using a different one (same one for both) slightly above the .txt requested one.
The result was a slight bump at circuit connection on the track.

Following the issue with Pikes Peak (end to end track) end point set each time on the ground, may be some checks to perform in TED editor or elevation editor on starting and ending points altitude mangement if any release would come.
Might be a problem in elevation editor as i am able to upload a correct file from TED editor when using a correct .ted file setup with 010 Editor (no change on load from disk) but not sure at all.

How do I open the editor? I have Python and don't know how to use it.

Make sure that you have Python 3.6 or higher.
Unzip the folder.
Double-click on the file called Track Layout Creator 1.6.1.py.

Alternatively: Find the program called IDLE (Python 3.6) and start it.
Go to File -> Open and select Track Layout Creator 1.6.1.py
In the window that pops up, go to Run -> Run Module.

Is there a way to add trackside objects within the editor, or perhaps a future release that will enable this.

I'm afraid not, it has to be done by hex editing the file.

It might be too complicated to add decoration tools to the layout creator, but a separate application could be doable. That way it would also work with tracks not made with the layout creator.

Is there any way to get the turn radius to have a full smooth progression? Currently in my test it's jumping from a radius of 11 then doesn't change till it goes to 0, when the desired result would be 6 or 7.

EDIT: It does look like you can get a bit more by reducing the track width but there is still a jump of 6 or 7 meters to 0.
