Event Status: Ended

Updates:
  • 3/20/2012 - *A list of rule changes have been posted below. Rules will take effect during practice sessions on Wednesday & Thursday as well as the full race.
  • 3/18/2012 - Mandatory practice dates have been set for Wednesday, March 21st [Convert] & Thursday, March 22nd [Convert]. You are required to show up to at least one of these. It is recommended to show up for both of these, although you don't have to. As usual, the schedule for the practice sessions will follow as they would in the full race.
  • 3/15/2012 - Practice is today! You can watch the session live at Twitch.tv/GamingOwlTV. All the race rules apply to the practice session.
  • 3/12/2012 - The practice date has been set to: Thursday, March 15th. It will begin at the same time as the full race, meaning 11:30AM US Eastern [Convert]. The time format will remain the same as the full race (see 'Schedule' below for more). It is not mandatory to take part in the practice session, but it is highly recommended as it will help everyone prepare for the full race.
  • 3/12/2012 - A practice date will be set once enough drivers have registered.

Rule Changes:

  • To clarify, only road cars are allowed. Racers, prototypes, concepts, etc. are not allowed.
  • The beginning of the race will consist of a parade lap following the pace car.
  • In the event of a Race Re-Start, drivers must drive outside the pitstop in a single file line in the order of their racing positons. If a driver has been lapped, they must wait for the remaining drivers to lineup before joining. They will start in the back.
  • We will no longer be using the PS3 Text Chat feature in the race. It has been replaced by the in-game chat feature of GT5.
  • If your car has been damaged and you're having trouble getting to the pits or believe you may be a hazard on the road, press the start button and inform the safety car in the Gran Turismo 5 chat room. Abuse this rule to your own advantage, and you will not be allowed back in our race series.
  • Once the safety car has entered the pits, maintain your position until you cross the start/finish line. Using the lap count at the top left of the screen is a good way to get the best start.
  • In the event of a disconnect during the full race, we will not be able to restart, unfortunately. To prevent disconnecting and ensure maximum connection stability, open your ports to the following [via PortForward.com]:

    TCP: 80, 443, 5223
    UDP: 3478, 3479, 3658, 5658

Also, make sure that you do not have any videos, downloads or anything that takes up a good amount of bandwidth running during the race. This will provide Gran Turismo 5 with the most bandwidth possible for a smooth experience.

You must read the following if you plan on taking part in the event.

Communication

Communication mid-race is extremely important. If you don’t know what’s going on around you, accidents are bound to happen. We want everyone to have a fun time in our race events. You must remain in both these chats at all times.

On Gran Turismo 5, you will occasionally receive messages like “SAFETY CAR ON TRACK” or “SAFETY CAR IN PIT”. Read more in the “Safety Car” tab.

On your computer, remain in our TwitchTV chat room as details or information will also be posted there. This is primarily for communicating in a quicker fashion when asking and answering questions about the event.

Check both of these from time to time. If you’re there, but not paying attention, you might as well not be there at all.

Safety Car

The safety car is not a feature provided within Gran Turismo 5. There are no options or features we can change to restrict players from breaking rules. If any rules are broken, you will be banned from racing in our events. This is your warning.

When the Safety Car is ON TRACK

  • When on track, all drivers must slow down to a speed of about 50MPH (80KPH) and keep roughly 2 car lengths apart from each car in front of you in a single file line. Be cautious not to make contact. NO overtaking is allowed. [See 'Rule Changes' tab above.]
  • During the Safety Car period, you are allowed to pit for tires and fuel at the cost of giving up your position. Once out of the pits, catch up to the other drivers and slow down to the correct speed 50MPH (80KPH) once you have caught up. If you leave the pits with other drivers, you must all maintain the position you’ve come out at. NO racing of any sort until you are given the green flag.
  • If your tires are cold, feel free to warm them up by steering hard left and right. Remember to keep up with the driver ahead of you and prevent yourself from falling too far behind.
When the Safety Car is OFF TRACK

  • Once the Safety Car has entered the pits, wait for the green flag message given in text chat until you continue the race. [See 'Rule Changes' tab above.]

Other Rules
  • When exiting the pits, you may not cross the white line until you have reached the end of it. Do not move over to the left, as this may cause driver miscommunication and cause an accident.
  • This is obvious, but has to be mentioned. Do not try to cut any corners, or attempt to cheat in an other way. The race is being broadcasted and recorded live. If we caught you breaking the rules at any time during the race, whether we saw it live or in a replay – you will be banned from racing in our events.
  • Be respectful to all drivers on and off the track, as well as anyone who is taking part in the event.
  • As mentioned earlier, you must remain in both GT5 and TwitchTV chat rooms at all times once the event as started.
  • If you have to leave for a short period of time for whatever reason, do not leave your car in the middle or on the side of the track. Enter pit lane and press the start button to restrict your car from automatically exiting.
  • Have fun. This is by far the most important rule. Reading all of this may make you think it’s all a bit strict, but once you’ve wrapped your head around it, it can be loads of fun. That is what this is all about.

All Message Types

  • “SAFETY CAR ON TRACK” – The Safety Car is on the track.
  • “SAFETY CAR IN PITS” – The Safety Car is in the pits.
  • “GREEN FLAG” – Race.
  • “YELLOW FLAG” – Be cautious, an incident may affect your driving line.
  • “RED FLAG” – The race has been stopped.
  • “QUALIFY” – You may start qualifying.
  • “ALL ENTER PITS” – All drivers must enter the pits.

Nice to see "better' regulations this time around guys, best of luck to you all, sadly I can't make it as thats a bad time for me.. Is the highlight video from Tskuba up?

The video is still being worked on, unfortunately. I'll try my best to get it up by Tuesday. That's hopefully the latest it will be live.

If you mean street/race cars, only street cars.

Edit: A list of rule changes are on the way. We've learned quite a lot thanks to the practice sessions we've had. Look out for the next practice date coming up in the updates (located at the top of the very first post) as well.

You can put my name down for this Luka :). (Im fwd crazy :sly:)

Any sort of times I should aiming at?

Ill be using my "paulmac2k9" account as my GTP account is purely for WRS events and has no cars .

I did some testing in multiple cars and came up with a PB of 2:05.7. Also tyres seems good for over 15 laps so id say a 2 stop is possible, which is around 18-19 laps on a set.

Also the sessions on Wednesday and Thursday are they at 11:30am your time (3:30pm my time) as I finish college sometimes at 4pm so I may not be able to make to either or will join late.

God, my PB still remains around 2:07... What cars are you guys using?
Ok, don't tell me.

Gets me worried though.

The sessions begin at 11:30PM US Eastern, although the actual races begin about an hour or more after that. It usually takes longer, mainly because we try to get as many people as possible in the lobby before we begin the practice runs.

I've provided links to both practice sessions to convert the times to your local timezone in the main post.

I'm getting around those times. SilverArrow managed a 2:05 in a practice session in a Volkswagen Scirocco R '10 [DLC]. Pretty damn quick, although I do prefer the handling of my Honda INTEGRA TYPE R (DC5) '04 vs the straight-line speed of the VW.

Did you still want my tuning settings?

Haha, sure. You can post them here if you'd like.

ballast 66kg position 50
max speed 149

Yeah, I also chose the Integra. Came home a bit wasted the other night and made a fantastic setup. Unfortunately GT5 managed to delete my setup so I've been workin on restoring it. Marvellous car, that Integra.

I assume that's MPH for the maximum speed, correct?

Ive had a 2:04.9 in the Vw and a 2:05.6 in a Honda Accord Coupe and in the Integra I only got a 2:06.4.

If thats a setup for the Vw thats rather wierd as mine as with all my Fwd cars is setup totaly different.

But theres a few more that I rekon have potential so ive got more cars to test ;).

Um Luka I tried to add you but it says you FL is full.. (Of course ill need to be on your FR to be in a text chat on Ps3..)

How long will it be online? I will be in a lecture until about 6:30 PM GMT. Sure would like to join.

Thanks to everyone who participated! We plan on creating another event sometime in the future. If you have any ideas, feel free to post them here.

Also check back for our upcoming videos: a recap of the last event (50 Laps of Tsukuba) and this one. They will be embedded in the very first post.

The event was good, i think we learned a lot, and i think the safety car may not be needed. Also guys, please only sign up if you can definately participate! I think we started with 8/9 people...and 4 of them DC'd. :( Anyway as Luka said guys, leave ideas and suggestions!
