More authentic F1 handling set-ups forum

Hi everyone, having recently bought Codemaster's F1 2010 and being rather disappointed with it I throught I'd come back to the Ferrari F10 in GT5, which while it looked amazing to me I always felt like it handled a little bit too well. Too much downforce equals too much grip and it just felt a little bit artificial to me.

Recently I decided to tone back the settings for this car to try and give it a more lively driving feeling and make it feel like a real car to drive, albeit one of a Formula One pedigree.

So far I've only made basic adjustments but have found they transform this car from just a novelty in the game to one that's truly a pleasure to drive and is exactly what I'd expect from a realistic F1 game.

Firstly downforce, I've lowered the front to 60, the rear to 100 (the minimum the game allows). Secondly the car just braked far too well, the braking distance just felt unbelievable so I turned the brake balance to 2 front & 2 rear. Lastly the only other thing I've done so far is to drive on Comfort Softs.

Please note this is only for driving with a Dual Shock 3 controller. I have a wheel set-up but the ridiculous lack of a 200 degree steering lock for the car made it impossible to drive, plus over the top force feedback made it even less enjoyable. For a controller these settings are amazing, just adjust the sensitivity to about 4 or 5 and it feels spot on to what a real F1 game should drive like on a controller (in my humble opinion).

That is it! Try it, I think you'll like it. It makes the F1 car actually feel like something that could exist whereas before it was just too good, and in replays especially you could tell it had an unnatural level of downforce and stability. This way, and especially with the tires, it actually has a bit of movement, you can slide out of corners in a believable way and it's a bit more fun to drive. There's probably a million other adjustments and tweaks could be made, I'm a settings novice after all, but to me these few simple adjustments transformed the F1 car into one I now enjoy time-trialling to my hearts content and watching the replay back.

Let me know what you think!

Additionally I drive in cockpit view, with viewing angle set to Narrowest. I have to use TC set to 2 to tame the pretty rubbish triggers on the PS3 pad. If I could use an Xbox pad I'd turn TC off altogether. ABS set to 1.

Done (I think), sorry for mis-posting! The tyres really don't feel so bad, just not the super-glue level of grip racing tyres give you in the F10.

You are going about it the wrong way. The main issue is the very high default LSD settings.

You really need a wheel for this to feel right but try this:
Set steering sensitivity to 7 (highest) *PD should rename this to degree of lock

Ferrari F10 -
Brakes F6 - R3
F(SR) 16.5 - R(SR) 17.5 - D(E) 8 - D(C) 6 - RB 5
F(CA) 3.1 - R(CA) 0.9
Toe -55/50
Aero F-95 - R-135
Top Speed-217
LSD 5-5-14
Tires Front-Med racing Rear-Hard racing

*Forgot to mention, ALL AIDS OFF!! Including ABS

Front Medium, Rear Hard? how does that work? explain your tune pl0x :D

The Racing Medium is still pretty damn grippy so I'd imagine he used the Racing Hard tires so the torque can still spin the tires a good amount if you get on it too hard in a corner.

You say the braking distances feel unrealistic, but in F1 2010 you brake at, for example, 150 yards before the final chicane at Istanbul, yes? In real life they brake at around 100-75. I think F1 2010 doesn't let you brake late enough compared to real life. Just my thoughts.

Hey guys. :)

I totally agree with the first post here , the F1 2010 has , in my opinion , way to much grip in this game. Now i'm sure we could get into mathematical equations or something , but I base this on experience and " feel ".

The main problem is the tyres , between Racing Soft through to hard I feel the car has unrealistic grip levels. In order to really get a little sideways on these tyres it takes a huge misjudgement on entry speed , lets say something like trying to take the corner 100kms an hour faster than you would in real life. So that's not good.

The first tyres I tried to experiment with were the comfort hards , and they felt great for a while , really challenging , but I felt they also had the wrong " feel " for what I was looking for.

So I bolted on a set of Sports Hard and found just the right balance in grip and traction I was looking for. The car steps out on the exits of tight corners very realistically if you squeeze the throttle 5% too much and i've managed to get a full understeer 4 wheel lock up under late braking. Try this too guys if you like , it's so much fun !

As to the steering wheel issue I agree also , it just doesn't feel connected to the car properly , and when you hit the mid-late 3 figures in Mph the vibrations are seriously distracting on my DFGT , so it causes me issues in the braking zones.....

So overall I agree , tyres , joypad + F12010 Ferrari = Great fun !

I'm going to be running a championship like this if I can get enough racers to join up.

Thanks for reading. 👍
All aids off apart from ABS 1
