More sensitive steering wheel

I'll report back with the Focus on Nürburgring...

Stock Focus ST with sport hards, all aids off, using the G29 wheel, I get:

1st Nürburgring GP hairpin: 1st gear, car slowing down up to around 45 kph: wheel input takes up to about 200 degrees to the right.
Good for you, but the OP isn't using a G29.

That's what I want to know how to do!!
Use the mode button and left and right buttons on the d pad to adjust it, as covered in an earlier post.

I never claimed that the user isn't using a Thrustmaster or should use a G29. All I did say, was that it's crazy/bonkers "no matter what the wheel" to have to turn it more than 270 degrees into one direction during a race at GTS. I fully believe that his Thrustmaster (and the way he has it set) takes about twice the rotation than the G29. All I'm doing here is explaining the G29 situation and that I'm thankful not having to turn it twice as much.

I'm done with this thread and you, sir.

If you’re turning the wheel that much, you’re doing something very wrong. Possibly, everything wrong. Even in the slowest hairpins your arms should never be touching. What is that, 180 degrees.
If you have one hand at 3 o'clock, and the other at 9 o'clock, you can turn the wheel until your forearms touch each other, and that is more than you'll ever need for GT.

I concur. I never turn the wheel more than 180-ish degrees, or when my arms touch. However, I had a rude awakening at a track day when I realised that real race cars don't have the same limited steering ratio as pretty much every car in Gran Turismo games seems to have, & I had to turn the wheel much more. I've often thought that if I was a real race driver I'd want the steering rack replaced in my car to match what I'm used to in GT.

I tried that but I'm not having any luck. Could someone talk me through it step by step?

Like in the first couple of minutes of the video. If you get the flashing light then it's probably working. But you have to do it on track. In a race this would mean doing it on the grid or on a straight if you've got three hands. When you exit the race it goes back to default.

Staff ‘Emeritus’ means former staff. Judging by that remark (or this thread) it’s of little wonder why.

It's happening for me at both the hairpins on the Autopolis circuit where the GR4 race is currently being run. I wanted to find a way to change my steering ratio on my Thrustmaster T150, but it looks like it's not possible.

Mike Walsh, I looked into this some time ago and apparently with GTS the max rotation of the wheel is set by the game and is changed depending on the car being used. Also the shortcuts with the Thrustmaster wheel rotation changes don't have any effect in GTS. From TMs website for the 150 wheel (same for all of them I think):

  • This tip will not function properly in some games (such as GRAN TURISMO®) which adjust or modify the angle of rotation at startup or at the restart of each race, according to the type of car being used.

My T M doesn't have to be turned anything like as far as yours with any car on any track..... worst I've had was that nightmare left-hand hairpin at Monaco but that was a different game, F1 2018.

There might be something wrong with your wheel.

Thanks Seadog. A sensible answer among the bickering.

"This tip will not function properly in some games (such as GRAN TURISMO®) which adjust or modify the angle of rotation at startup or at the restart of each race, according to the type of car being used."

Properly is the key word here. The tip does work (I tried it yesterday) but you have to do the setting on track, and it reverts to the default setting when you leave and re-enter the race or time trial.

I believe it also resets when you pit midrace as well.

Thanks for clarifying.... but I've never found the need to use the tip in GTS as the wheel works just fine as set by the game and I've never had the issue the OP has had with his wheel.

I think that's right. I don't know when reset happens exactly, i.e whether you can reapply the setting during the pitstop, or under autodrive when leaving the pits.

Me neither. The only time I've used it was to decrease the steering sensitivity to get more fine control on karts and maybe GR.1/GR.2 on ovals.
The only situation I might want to increase the sensitivity would be something like Horse Thief Mile in a road car or if we get Monaco back. There's certainly no need for it at Autopolis if the game/wheel are working correctly. Unless you like drifting.
