More Things To Tune!

tuning the turbo to squeeze out more horsepower

tuning tire pressure

tuning fuel maps and stuff

tuning the ecu

and all the other stuff that you need to tune in real life:idea:

APT, I think you hit the nail onthe head there! Real in depth stuff, but there would need to be auto settings available to the less-technical inclined.

How about clutch pressures, tyre and rim offsets, tyre profiles, and steering lock settings as well?

Too many settings = less fun. With so many more people enjoying the stock feel of all the cars available in Gran Turismo, it's silly to talk about even more tuning options, without removing some of the more redundant and less-noticable options (sport flywheel and single-plate clutches) first.

Ajusting the turbo boost pressure would be nice (ala GT1), but with 3-5 turbo options available, it's just another setting to fret about.

I actualy did not know you can adjust turbo pressure in GT1? got any screens of this?

You could change the pressure (down) to one of 4 (or was it 5?) settings to reduce the boost lag. Some of the boost lag was horrendous after recvoering from a spin; it would make a me a "believer" of tuning NA cars instead of turbos (when possible) in that game.

I remember turning the boost all the way down on a maxed out Impreza I had, it was my first fast car in the game and I spent all my cash on it and whenever I spun or went off the track it took forever to get the revs back up.

Boost pressure adjustment would be nice in the next GT.

I think there is a point.....but what tuning could be left out? I think NOS in
GT4 wasn't very exciting, I used it to race top speed records, or a little pressure on the car when exiting corners, for fun, but I don't see the real use of NOS in GT4, maybe I'm missing something?

If it was implemented properly and if GT5 featured drag racing, I could see a real use for Nitrous kits. It's not very exciting using it whenever you want on a circuit. If GT5 does have damage, the nitrous should cause engine damage or even blow the engines completely if people use it too hard, too early or too often.

Yeah, I'd really like to see more things to tune in the next GT.

Here are a few pics of the turbo boost adjustment in GT1 (took me about 20 minutes to do this because I can't find any PS1 memory cards with GT1 saves on them and I had to to a race to buy a turbo for the car).

The car's a '90 (I think) Toyota Supra with a Stage 1 turbo.

yeah, there should be leaks when chrashing too hard, visible from the outside

Um.. nawz? NAWZ?NAWZ? IT's Nitrous NOT NAWZ!

He's being sarcastic, NOS is a brand name standing for Nitrous Oxide Systems, the gas is N2O (nitrous oxide) and the system is a Nitrous oxide injection system, NOS is just one of many brands that builds nitrous systems.

Though he is being over the top snce the brand used in GT4, is actually NOS. NOS isn't a replacment word for nitrous but calling the system a NOS system i relation to GT4 is correct, since it is a NOS system.

If 4 or 5 years down the line Sony has a Gran Tourismo game that looks exactly like real life theres no difference. Then maybe we Could take Driving
Test on Gran Tourismo down at the DMV that would be wild I can see now
hit R3 on the Steering Wheel to turn the Right Turn Signal. and can you see
them at the DMV saying the track you will be tested on is Tuskuba Circuit.

Yes..

Gran Tourismo.

I heard about it.

believe me... he does know. and i believe it is actualy called NOS in GT4 (which however is a brand) im not sure, it could be nitrous though.
Call it "NOS" and I will make fun of you... O yeah and it makes you look dumber then me... You don't want that to happen now do ya?

How about tire size. You should be be able to change the width of tires and even vary the sizes front to back to induce/reduce understeer, oversteer, etc. Also, for those of us who like to pimp our rides, the ability to change rim sizes. A weight system could lowet vehicle weight for going smaller or increase it for going larger and it could also affect vehicle handling characteristics. Also, front splitter for front downforce tuning (one that actually appears on the car.0

You might not want to do that, as Nismo_GTR is quite right that GT4 (at least in the PAL version) does indeed call in NOS on the purchase screen.

Well sorry I don't live in Europe.. So I wouldn't know.. I thought we was just talking in general... Besides it was a joke.... :D

What's the big deal? Do you flip out when someone calls a piece of tissue paper a "Kleenex," even if it's made by a different company? Do you correct people when they refer to a generic-brand bandage as a "Band-Aid?"

Even if you are joking, you responded to his usage of the word "NOS" in a very typical over-zealous-anti-ricer way.

Alongside that note, i really think there should be a 'clutch' button assigned for GT5, were if you did get ofcourse or crash, clutch dumping the car should get it very high up in the rev ranges, and hit the nail on an extra touch of realism. 👍

That won't come close to happening in 4-5 years. 4-5 years is only at GT6 or GT7. Maybe on PS4, maybe not. The game will be a lot better, but no-where near "exactly like real life". People said that same crap 10 years ago. Maybe in 20-30 years a game will approach that level but I doubt it.

Here is a question: If every generation a game moves half the distance closer to "reality" how many generations will it take to get there?

I think people fail to realize the quality of information we receive through our eyes. We would need way more than 1080p to get above the resolution of our visual system. More like 10000p. Not to mention the multiple ways we recognize depth and 3d motion. In 20 years our kids will laugh at GT4 as unrealistic.
