I am still early into the game and with all the discussion about the lack of credits in game, what are the most inexpensive cars with the cheapest upgrades/tuning which can compete in many events?

I do not want to grind any particular race and I would like lots of racing variety.

Does anyone have any preferred cars and tuning options for them?

I am working my way through the Cafe Menus and have the prize cars. I also have the Cr 1000000 left after the apology reward.

Any ideas would be very welcome!

I had a lot of fun with the Honda Integra and the 98 Honda Civic R model. You can soup up both to really wipe everyones nose, even at Hi Spd Ring. They are easy to drive also. There is a tune for the Integra at the top of the page under EXETER Tuning by Seanm80. When you are ready to step up, Praiano tunes up an old Nissan GTR that is soooo easy to drive. His tunes are right underneath EXETER tunes, near the top of the page.
Cheers, Pete

My advice would be to get all gold on the National B licence give you the weapon of a car Mitsubishi GTO twin turbo, max that from then on and will get you through most of the races (you can even start grinding the Tokyo championships with it)

Good luck

Try this

Good early cars for all around;

Early good car for the 800pp is the Corvette C7 ZR1 '19

Nissan R32 gtr vspec II '94, is a fairly inexpensive car for the 700pp and just under.

Ferrari F430 '06 is really good at the 600pp. (Mines at 599.80 lol)
Also at this level, the Toyota 86 GRMN '16 is great.

Amg gt black is an immense piece of machinery and can be used in a fair few events. Although I bought it around menu 20+ so mayvnot be allowed in earlier menus, can't recall tbh. But yiu can add ballast, restrict power + even fiddle with other settings to lower its pp into lesser events.

Or usual GT suspects, 4wd Japanese cars: gt-r, evolution, imprezzas - usually good value and easy enough to harness, or tune/upgrade like crazy.

Although tbh you don't have to buy any cars at all to complete menus ( apart from a bloody pickup, which was annoying as can't stand the things, but hardly end of world).

If you do menus and some licenses, missions and circuit experiences cars and wealth will open up naturally.

Depends if you have desire to splash out sooner, which I get and did myself!!

For me, the best all rounded, tunable monster on a track is either the GT-R nismo 17, or the Subaru coupe WRX Type R STi v.VI '99, ladder of which is also a beast on rally tracks.

The Civic you win early in the game is awesome and the ‘94 R32 GT-R when you get a bit further in. They cover FF, 4wd, Japanese and Turbo races 450 - 600pp easily. Later in the game you win the GT-R ‘02 and that is a smidge better than the ‘94, especially as tuned by PrIano.

FR was a bit harder for me to find something I truly love. Normally I go BMW but have not got to grips with the ’07 M3. I used the ‘89 M3 which is lovely out of the box for <550 but over that, nothing has caught my attention yet.

When you get to the stage where you need to race a lot in America, I decided to spend some $ and bought the Shelby Mustang which is awesome and almost made me enjoy racing big muscle cars… almost.

Finally, when you need +600pp there is nothing better than the 997 GT3 with Priano’s tune on it.

GTR R32 can get you through most of the game where you can use it. The BMW M3 that you get from menus was also really good for completing those mid level European races. The issue is that you can't just get one car. Since most races are locked by region, you will need a couple of cars- European, Asian, American at the very least. O don't remember much of what I used in terms of American cars since there doesn't seem to be as many races there, and the ones that are there, many were rally races. I remember getting the Camaro ZL1 and completing a lot of US races on that. Honestly, to get through the menus you don't even need to buy a car except the first one that's technically free. You get all the cars that you need through menus. Some people think you need to buy a truck, but you actually don't. One of the races in that menu set gives you the F150 and you can use the Focus that you got before to win it. So honestly, buy the cars that you want to drive since no purchases are required to beat the game,

R32 Skyline and the AMG GT Black, both can be used in a wide variety of missions and both are quick out of the box and easy to drive quickly as you come to grips with the new physics engine.

There is no credit crunch. Just play the cafe menus, do the missions and get bronzes on the circuit experience and you’ll have 100+ cars and about 12m in credits.

So how's the selection? any progress?
I am having lots of fun with the R32 Skyline, so much fun I am neglecting to do the Cafe menus! Mitsubishi GTO is a beast as well. As the game credit system has changed, I am enjoying just playing rather than having to grind for the cars and parts needed.

Mitsubishi GTO, stage 1 weight reduction, ballast then load it up with whatever/upgrades and it's good to go.

From early cars, can't say I used the '98 Civic, but seemed a very stable and sharp on a licence test I can't recall which.

But the Renault Clio RS220 is a great all around car for french and european restricted events, you can win it at a menu, but can be won right from the blocks with bronze on the B licence.

A litlle further on, as mentioned, the Skyline R32 at the Nissans Menu is great at different degrees of upgrade and tuning.

On the american side as to be the Corvette C7 you win at Special Stage Route X.

On the licence side, the Subaru BRZ STi from gold on Licence A is great in anything that doesn't require huge hp.

A sleeper, IMHO is the Honda Civic FK8 that can be won on the Beyond the Horizon missions. Just a weight reduction stage 1 and Sports Medium put it on Clubman+ 550pp range (about 547ish) and is just great, the standard diff is actually a LSD as the real model and just turns like it's on rails. The Clubman+ race at High Speed Ring is usually a pain in the ***, because there aren't enough corners to compensate the huge top speed of some IA cars, like the Porsche 911, but it's a piece of cake with this car.
