I really hope motorcycles don't make an appearance in GT5... At least not until motorcycle controllers are feasible.

I just don't get this deal with people not wanting certain content in the game. At the end of the day the more the better as long as it doesn't compromise anything else. Im sure evryone and that's including the guys here that say they don't want bikes would love riding a bike in GT5, sometimes i just want to have fun, not go around perfecting lines and chasing times, GT is a game and should be treated as such, if adding a feature would make some people happy why not, it won't do you any harm?

Because it dilutes the core game. Every second spent adding anything non car related to GT is time not spend refining GT. That lessens GT whether you like it or not.

I think the difference you are talking about would be negligable, that's like saying if PD didn't do all these other things like Gt mobile, Gt academy, Gt Cafe, then Gt5 would be better off. I feel bringing a larger variety of vehicles to the Gt franchise would do more for it than say engine swaps, i mean they are pretty pointless in a video game imo, we can tune the power output with other methods, and i imagine it would be much harder to implement such a feature as well than model a few bikes and a few more physics parameters. Not to mention adding bikes to GT5 would bring in a whole new crowd, especially witha simplified arcade mode.

Diversification is spreading your resources thinly over a wider area. Concentration of resources allows for greater emphasis on the core asset.

In other words you can either have a great car game or a great bike game, but for equal resources you would inevitably end up with a less than great car and bike game that ultimately doesn't satisfy anyone.

-> I don't think that TT and GT will merge. As of now, the current hype lies on GTPSP and GT5 for now.

-> Once we're busy oogling at GT5 (by then), there will be another Tourist Trophy under the radar. I think TT was a success (but not compared to the legendary GT), please correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Wouldn't mind trying to drift in (on?) a motorbike!
^ Oh, someone did that already:

This has been discussed countless of times. There will not be any bikes in GT5, and if there were, I'd find it very odd.

Please, NO bikes in GT5! However, I would so love if they made another Tourist Trophy!

EDIT: They got the WRC and NASCAR license for GT5. Imagine if they somehow get the Moto GP license for the next TT. Then PD would officially be the king of the hill!

I hope to see bikes in GT5, not at the very beginning but later on. The big advantage is not to wait another 5 years for a release. PD just implement some bikes later! Game engine and damage model still exists...just give us some bikes at X-mas 2010 or so...

I don't mind if they add cycles, so long as they are not required for Trophies and not required for Career. I want nothing to do with them. However, I appreciate that others would like them and want them in there.

I expect TT2 in the next couple years, but I never expect bikes in a released Gran Turismo product.

Because bikes in GT would compromise the game. The only thing ift can do is compromise the car part of it, even if bike and car eventswere kept totally seperate you're still compromising the car portion of the game.

For example, bikes are included in GT and fitted into the GT mode like cars, you choose a car or cike and enter an event. You now have cars and bikes racing together - First compromise since this would destroy the balance and feel of races and would be an instant kick in the face of any attept to get a feeling of realism in the race. It would also play havok with the physics engine sine to the best of my knowledge you would only have one engine running at once and you would need two in the game. One to get a realistic feel for cars and a second one for bikes. Naturally the game would choose which ever one matches the vehicle you have chosen but that means all the other vehicles in the race are now usung that physics engine.

The other option is that bikes are included bit bikes and cars cn't race together. This is a bette idea but then you still have a portion of the game where PD have spend a lot of time and effort including a seperate physics model for the bikes and then modelling th ebikes themselves. This is time that would be better and far less controversially spent on improving the car portion of the game. Time spend creating phyics and ieks for GT5 is a direct tradeoff for time spent on the phyiscs and cars since it would be the programmers, modellers and artists all working on thoes things whatever vehicles they may be. It is not a tradeoff for other options and feature like GT TV that don't require the programmers and modellers becuase you have different groups of people specialising in different areas. Maybe GT TV is a tradeoff for something, but I wouldn't know what it could be, it certainly isn't primary game content. Same thing for tuning features such as engine swaps (and no, it wouldn't be easier to model a few bikes, the bieks would cost more and take a lot more man hours to include), they are not direct tradeoffs for content that the modellers are creating becasue all you are really doing simulating an engine swap is messing with numbers and formulas on a database, there is no tradeoff for main game content by including a feature like this.

So I'm very much against the idea of bikes being in GT, GT right down to the title of the game Gran Turismo, is a game about cars I hope that never changes.

See this is the thing i dont understand, How can you say there will not be any bikes in GT5, when no one outside PD has any Knowledge of the game? Im not saying that there are going to be motorcycles in GT5 just wondering if its a possibility, far as right now Im just"thinking"of possible features.

But im gonna put my money where my mouth is and bet there gonna put one motorcycle in the game (if not a series) to preview a new Tourist Trophy

I agree that cars and bikes shoud not race together in GT mode, but in arcade or as perhaps a mini game i think bikes would be fun. Most of the cars in GT go unnoticed to a lot of people, i rathewr have bikes than like 50 variations of skyline, i know there not modelling them all from scratch, but it would still take a long time. As for the physics engine, why would you need two?, why not just have one that is capable of generating physics for both cars and bikes but allocate certain physical parameters to individual vehicles. I mean that is probably what happens already with the F2007, that has a number of parameters not applicable to the other cars, but they can still both race at the same time. As for engine swaps then if they are just messing with a few parametrs as opposed to visual modelling of swaps then that seems pretty half assed and pointless imo, id rather just have the normal tuning options and option to mess with torque, horsepower curves.
I see and respect your point but i think you need to be a bit more open to the idea of other vehicle types in GT, many of the problems you have raised can be avoided through clever management of gameplay and the menu interface.

Proof of that there won't never ever be bikes in a GT game:
Wikipedia
A grand tourer (Italian: gran turismo) (GT) is a high-performance luxury automobile designed for long-distance driving. The most common format is a two-door coupé with either a two-seat or a 2+2 arrangement.
See? Gran Turismo is about cars only...

That's not proof, that's a definition.

Things are changing, PD is changing, and Kaz is changing. Remember, Kaz's dreams are limitless, and whatever he wants to put in his games, he'll put in as he sees fit. There might not be bikes in GT5, but I'm not gonna count on there never being bikes in future installments.

Lol, then by your logic we will only be doing endurance races in GT5 in nothing other than a gt with 4 seats. I agree with above comment, GT is changing, it has to if it wants to survive against the competition, and if that means expanding the vehicle types, so be it.

Why in hell is this thread still open when there has been already one thread on this specific topic created here?

Is it too much to ask people to search instead of starting up new threads?
If any of the mods are around, please close this one as we don't need two threads covering the same topic(which is moot and not gonna happen at this point).

One day we'll have a possibility to race around Nürburgring with 100 participants with all kind of vehicles.

But not this christmas.

Period.
