Moving mud flaps in Gran Turismo 5

I was really enjoying GT5 until I noticed that the mudflaps on the car's don't move. There's no hope for this game now it's destined to be traded in as I can't stand playing it with huge details like this being missed out.

Sarcasm in case you didn't know đź‘Ť

Would have been nice if you used the same view for the GT5 video as you did for the GT4 one, the camera stays on the back end for a split second, but there is some movement, not enough to keep nit pickers at bay apparently.

There is no mudflap movement in GT5, I did the top Rally event in the S4 from the 3rd person view, and they never moved once. I was very disappointed that they weren't animated anymore.

No, that was my point, I think you mis-read my post. GTA San Andreas allowed these things then later versions of the game had regressed.

Right, but there is no reason, why developer have to take every feature of the previous title to the new one.

It is called "game concept" and when a feature does not fit into the concept, it is regressed ;)

Never enjoyed flying planes in GTA, but helicopters. And I never saw a sense in it. Thank god they regressed the food and body building feature.

Even more strange is the fact that Gran Turismo PSP has moving mud flaps:

Although to be honest the most baffling issue is that GT-PSP has tracks like Cathedral Rocks and Grand Canyon while in GT5 we are stuck with pathetic Rally Tracks (well they don't even look remotely as rally stages) generated by the track editor! đź‘Ž

Antennas on every race car should also move when cornering!
Wasn't this the case in GT3 or GT4?

Not sure. GT4 definitely had wobbling windscreen wipers at speed.

And Colin McRae Rally 2 had inertial antennae. Yeah.

I'm sure there were a number of things that required effort to get working on the Standard cars, given they were being imported into a 100% new engine and architecture. Still disappointing that these little, subtle, barely appreciable details get lost in the "upgrade", though.

Watching that Video really makes you appreciate 60 FPS

GT5 doesn't run at 60 fps... you've been fooled by PD's marketing. Digital Foundry did the tech analysis - you should check it out.

I should also mention that the mudflaps move in GT PSP just as they do in GT4.

Kaz admitted the game drops below 60 fps. It's actually not that bad in 720p, but 3D is terrible (on paper) - but it's not as noticeable, depending on the hardware.

We should probably add that almost every game in the world (ever) experiences slow-down - it's called pushing the envelope of technical (and individual) capability. ;)

That sucks.

Still, sometimes there's only one car on the screen and it's shadow looks like a PS1 GFX if the car is far from the camera, but the camera is zoomed in. In instances like that, PD could optimize the code more.

The way it is now, sometimes the shadows look horrible only because of lazy programming, not hardware limitations. I can almost understand when there's 12 premium models on the screen at once, but not when there's way fewer cars being rendered.

Sometimes the shadows look fine, so I know it's possible.

We all already know GT5 didn't get as much care as every other game so it doesn't look nearly as polished as GT4 was in 2004. I expected they add some interesting details that PD are known for but it just didn't happen. Those little things were jaw-dropping in their times but PD just started to hang around and they came out with very rushed and uncomplete game this time. Thank god they even released it, all those years without Nordschleife were awful.

Surely this could have been posted in a bug/glitch thread or a GT4/GT5 comparison thread instead of a whole thread dedicated to mudflaps!

OMG, I thought the FIFA EA forums where full of pps who gave out about very tiny details! It's only mudflaps at the end of the day, not as if they do much to affect the game!

The point is that this is one of the many things which shows the lack of attention that GT5 got compared to previous titles... and we're speaking of Standard cars that in theory should have been at least as good as in GT4.

I've noticed this as well, then went to cockpit view.

You went to cockpit view? You mean standard cars like the Lancia Delta S4, Lancia Stratos, Renault Alpine, Ford GT40 '69 and many more historically significant cars have cockpit view? Surely you are mistaken...

Lack of moving mud flaps does not make the game unplayable. But as a previous poster said:

....dude, you know what I meant.

Mudflaps......seriously?
I've noticed this as well, then went to cockpit view. This is just being nit-picky/anal

At the very least it is another thing that shows just how little PD cared about quality control when they ported over the Standard cars. It may be nitpicky/anal, but PD still didn't do it.
