Actually, CD sales are declining because they're not what the customer wants. They're low on content (1 hour or so) and just too high on price (cost of manufacture + 2000++ percent profit? hell no.)

That's why small labels and indie artists around here are finally starting to sell CD's at what they're really worth... about 3-4 dollars retail.
I chose to avoid my usual rant about the poor quality of the entertainment industry lately and how MP3s will force the music industry to change because they can't sell us 1 good song with 12 other fluff songs anymore. We have the ability to buy the one song we want and never listen to the other songs again. THAT is the main reason why the RIAA is both fighting MP3s and trying to get their prices raised. They cannot justify raising the price because we are currently paying roughly the same per song as before, but they keep talking about loss of revenue. Maybe they should just have each artist create 10 good songs instead of one.

MP3s will lead to an entire genration of one-hit wonders before the industry changes.
