Multi Boot Up Question

[BMW POWER]

quick question about multi boot up, when the computer starts up and asks you what OS you wish to start how do you change the names of OS in the list, for example

my computer currently says:

Windows XP Professional
Microsoft Windows

but i want to change it so it says:

Microsoft Windows XP Pro
Microsoft Windows 98 SE

i know i haven't explained it very well so if someone understands what am trying to do, please help

hmm. in the boot.ini (a hidden file located on you hdd, its in the root of it) you need to change where it says

Windows XP Professional
and
Microsoft Windows


to

Microsoft Windows XP Pro
and
Microsoft Windows 98 SE

note: make up a bakup of your boot.ini before changind it

thanks for your help but i cant find the boot.ini file, after turning on "show hidden files" and searching my whole hard drive i couldent find it. i then ran a search of my entire PC and it still couldent locate it

ok sorry never mind i found it now, forgot to turn off "hide protected operating system files"
got it all sorted now, thanks for your help

yep sweet as a proverbial nut, you can also change the amount of time you have to select the OS, i find this useful because the default 30 seconds was to long

That you can change by right-clicking "My Computer", choosing "Properties" and going into "Advanced", then "Startup and Recovery Options" This allows you also to switch the boot menu off, if you only ever use one OS.

If you ever decide to go with Linux, I'd recommend LILO over GRUB, GRUB doesn't seem to work too well for me, it had a lot of trouble booting Windows before I configured the file for it. Plus, LILO is more customizeable, I think....

Heh You could change it to
Sucky OS Numero Uno and
Even Suckier OS which requires more ram and cpu

Or something .......
