Multi S vs Multi P

This has been mentioned numerous times but have never seen a thread to discuss it. This is to address all of the duplicates (variations/trims) of cars to include Skylines, Miatas, S2000s, and etc. Some people find the importance of different variations and others think its unnecessary. I don't mind either way to be honest.
All/most (idk) of these duplicates have a premium counter part. Most visually have very minor differences like badges and reflector lenses. Those kind of minor differences seem easy to address to make a premium duplicate. My question is; would you rather PD premiumize all the duplicates to drastically increase the count at the cost of a few "new" premiums, but rid of many standards? Or on the other hand, get several "new" premiums and most standards left as "updated textures"?
Let's say premiums now take about 30 days start to finish to produce(just a scale). I would guess to say it would take 3-5days at most to convert a duplicate. So 6 premium duplicates vs 1 new premium. Another mention...I'm pretty sure PD will always have duplicates...wouldn't be GT without :)

I think most of us would like the car count streamlined without giving up any choice but I doubt it will happen before we go to GT7/PS4. That magic 1000+ car count is just to big a marketing advantage in PD/Sony's eyes.:grumpy:

I would rather they get rid of them altogether and keep the 2-3 important variations rather than the current mess of 20+. I'm also really annoyed by different liveries being considered different cars rather than colors and different variations of the same track having to be scrolled through like it's a different track instead of selecting the track you want with left/right and the layout with up/down.

IMO different liveries is a different issue. I'd rather see a grid of 16 cars all the same car but mixed up with 4 different liveries, than 16 cars with identical liveries, if only for photo/replay purposes. I don't consider that the same as a bazillion (yes I counted them:lol:) S2000's, Miata's etc. some with fuzzy dice and some without.

Nothing wrong with liveries. I just think they should be handled in a different way rather than bloating the car number even further.

You are right they could put the different trims, and engines, in the upgrade garage. Unless a specific trim has a significantly different look then it should be its own model, like the R34 and R34 GT-R should be separate models. So you would essentially buy a R34 GT-R and from there you can buy the trim you want, M-Spec, V-Spec and so on. Like you said, I'd rather have each car of the same model under a sub-menu for that car, so you would select a car like you do in the dealership and it opens a sub-menu with all the ones you have, with their different trims, engines, upgrades and colors.

It upsets me to say it, but I have doubts of that happening in gt7. There will always be "something".
If it were up to me, as several others have said, I would take the top of the line model....debut model...and a race spec version if available. Skyline for instance would be '99 GTR R34, 02 GTR R34 V-Spec II nur, and whatever race spec. But, since PD finds the car count/ advertising ploy so important I personally think the 1st choose would be best to filter out standards...but much less interesting then the later option.
Don't wanna turn this into a wish list but I really hope PD has found a way to airspeed the exterior modeling. It would be nice for the new gt6 "standards" to be a low quality premium w/o interiors. But, "the worst have been upgraded to look better" doesn't give me a warm and comfy. Guess we will see soon:)

Edit: oh and the model, trim, etc breakdown as the "build your (insert car here)" like when shopping online is a spectacular idea. Though PD would not approve as there is no way they can count that as more than 1 car haha

No one should really need to choose either choice, as there shouldn't be no more than 2-3 variants of a given model in each given model generation. Anymore than that and it becomes redundant.

With my OP I tried to give the most logical and realistic options for P and S cars given the current info we have on gt6. We know "all" cars to include duplicate standards will be in gt6. With that in mind can we try and discuss the choices in the OP and your opinions on those. Near all would agree that we shouldn't have to choose and the top 3 trims would be best but is not going to happen on this platform. GT7 will be a the next gen and far too early to discuss. This thread is for GT6 only. If you for see other possible options given current info that would be great.

It kinda looks like Kaz wants to make Gran Turismo, a full car encyclopedia. Can you imagine if in a few years we end up with a GT game with over 2000 cars?? That really sounds like a waste because none would really use them all.

A spectacular idea indeed. I love it. But I don't see why they couldn't count that as multiple cars. At the end of the day they're different cars right? An S2K type V is to a type S like a Gala apple is to a honey crisp. Two S2K's, two apples. Just seems to be a cleaner more streamlined way of choosing different versions of said vehicle whichever it may be.

The point of an encyclopedia is not to read every entry. And I doubt we'll see 2000 cars anytime soon, because if they move on to PS4 with GT7, I can't see them make new standard cars, and premium cars take a whole lot longer to make.

Regarding the duplicate issue, I love my Peugeot 106 S16 and 106 Rallye, but if only one of them were in the game I wouldn't miss the other. So if the choice is between adding different models or adding different versions of the same model, I'd go for the first.

So what's the S2000 Type V (EU) and S2000 Type V (US) to the S2000 Type V (J)?

once again the "different livery cars" are all different! Iv taken pictures of all the gt500 cars and not one is identical. On the other hands all NASCAR'S seem to be except for a a few differences

There's a US version of the S2000 Type V? In the game I mean, I know we didn't get those in real life.

More on topic though: I'm actually really fond of the multiple trim levels. In some cases I wish there were more (at the expense of a Tank Car or something else that I believe to be mostly useless) and I think we're finally at a point to where multiple trims might be worth more than a different badge/name in the menu screen. I mean, Gran Turismo is known for having 5000000 Skylines, at least now we would actually be able to see the differences between the M-Spec and a V-Spec.

At the same time, having just recently played GT5, I realized how many Premiums (of cars that I personally prefer to drive) simply are not there. Like it's a lot. A lot a lot. So while I want to vote for them moving a bunch of different trims up to premium, there really just needs to be a lot more premium models.

That's not what I'm saying.

Say there's one car model with 3 different liveries. The liveries should be handled as different selectable colors on 1 car rather than having the same model 3 times in the dealership for each different livery.
