Hmmm....would you count a 1988 Mustang GT? Its got a 5.0 in it so it has muscle.

Also nice nice car man .

I love Chevelles. They are really nice cars. I wish I could talk my dad into buying one as our new project car. He is looking for something old and fast so we can drag race up in Lapeer. He thought about a 69 Camaro or a 69 Charger R/T.

Yeah. If it has muscle then it's a muscle car.
Lapeer? I raced in Lapeer back in the late 80s.
Lived about 45 minutes from there growing up.
Good luck with your next project car.
My first car was a 71 Charger.
I'm torn between Mopar and GM.

were did you used to live DGB? I live in Lake Orion which is about 30 minutes from Lapeer so I figure you must have lived close to that.

My first car was a 1964 Chev Impala 2 door hardtop with a 283ci V8. Not a muscle car but it was a really cool car.

Right now the closest thing I have to a muscle car is my Dad's 1969 Jaguar XKE Convertible. It has a 4.2L I6 with 270hp, and it competed with muscle cars back in the old days.

my dad and uncle have owned numerous muscle cars: 69 roadrunner, late 70s corvette, 69 trans am, late 60s camero, and there are more i cant think of at the time

my uncle HAD a '68 cougar then a '69 roadrunner then a '79 Z28
my dad HAD a '65 gto 389-3-2's/super T10 etc.
i HAD a '73 dart swinger i got for a parts car then a '73 duster-318 cubic inch bored .060 over,m-p 312 dur. 590 lift cam,offy intake ported 360 heads/shaved .070 ,accel dual point dist.,hooker super comp headers,mc leod 3500#clutch,cast iron A-833 4speed(from a 273 c.i.d 'cuda-'66)'79 dodge van 8-3/4/ rear with sure grip and 4.11's,i had to reverse offset the rear wheels
because of the van rear diff.
I MISS THAT CAR -one seat/gutted interior/3 MECHANICAL gauges and OPEN headers!

You know my dad just told me that he had a Olds 442 back in the day. It was a sweet ass car. It was red with black stripes and he said he could shut down any one on woodward on Saturday night.

I still love to crusie down woodward in the Stang. There are many memories there.

Not a "muscle car" but, no "punk". My 1962 Ford Thunderbird Landau. 390 with Holley 850 Double Pumper, and my favorite a 1970 Ford Country Squire Wagon. 429 SCJ with Holley 1050 carb. It was fast even with eight people aboard.

Some people say American cars suck. It's fairly fashionable these days. And the purpose of this thread is not to solve that argument. But Even if your deam car is a Porche 911 GT, or an R34 Vspec, you gotta admit there is something special about the American muscle cars of the 60's and 70's, right? If I had unlimited funds to go and buy any car I wanted it would be some kind of European sports car... a Lamborghini, or a TVR. But I'd save a chunk to also go and get a Super Bee or a Charger or something. Mmmm... Hemi.

So what do you all think of the classic American muscle cars? Have a favorite? How do they measure up to your other favorites?

And if there's any experts out there, what's the fastest muscle car?

My heart desires a Shelby Cobra. Blue with white strips, and prefably with a 427ci in it. But if I couldnt get a Cobra, I'd settle for a '57 Chev Bel Air, Thunderbird or maybe a 50's era pick-up truck. They're cruisers - Cruisin' in style is essential. 👍

I for one would love a 71 Dodge charger RT.

A nice red one.

Although I dont know much about American muscle.

My first car was a '64 Chevy Impala with the 2-door hardtop. It had a decent 283ci V8 (4.7L)

I went thru a time where I loved Muscle Cars.

Some of my favourites are:

Oldsmobile 442, I love them, the looks are on the neutral side but it has the highest Torque of all of the muscle cars. Even though torque isnt the best thing on earth nowadays, but it's what muscle cars were all about. Since the Olds 442 has the highest torque of all the muscle cars, and muscle cars are all about torque, I guess the 442 is the most muscle-carish muscle car.

Dodge Charger ('68,'69,'70). Even though the 440ci Six Pack didnt have enormous Hp, I just love the sound of that engine. I would prefer the 440ci Six Pack over the Hemi just for the sound.

PS: For anyone curious, the Oldsmobile 442 had 510 ft-lbs of torque for one year of its production. Mind you the Hp was about 400.

I think the Charger Hemi has 426hp whereas the Charger with the 440ci Six pack has roughly 360hp.

I would love to have a 1967 Camaro or a 1987 Buick Grand National. Both cars kick major ass and I would love to own one of them.

My dad has thrown around the idea of me and him buying an old car and fixen it up. The car he wants to buy is a Chevelle or a Mustang from the 70's. He said maybe when he retires which should be in a few years. I hope we buy one cause we could make the car kick ass.

Ah yes... I forgot about the Goat. I think I prefer the older body style, though... the more boxy looking one with the bad-ass looking front end. I have no idea what year. I'll try and find a pic.

here is the 442 with 510 torque:

You can see how practically all of these cars are built from the same chassis, i.e. Chevelle, 442.
