Actually I'm raising my kid(11 yrs old now) to love old muscle cars.
I take him cruzing all the time. He loves it. He wants me to give him my Chevelle when he turns 16, That won't happen but I will buy him one and help him restore it.
His favorite car is the Viper.
I imagine a lot of us that like the US made vehicles are raising theis kids to like them too.
If he does want a foreign car I wont be hurt. I do hope he would pick one that I would want to borrow now and then though.

I'd prefer kids to feel no pressure to like a particular car, but that's me. That said, exposure is ok with me.

RE: post 25

Hence why I said "have not acheived yet."

I guess I said it wrong. I'm not pressuring him to like them it's just that's what he is around all the time. I was raised in an only American car family because both my parents worked for GM. I grew up also in a time when muscle cars dominated the road. It was only natural that I would end up leaning in that direction.
I think it will be the same for my son.
We have owned other cars that weren't American so that might influence him some also.

Every now and then he will talk about a particular Japanese made car he likes and I beat the hell out of him. (just kidding)

Whatever he wants is ok with me but I have a feeling his first car at least will be American.

Yah, but imports only took off in the last 10-15 years. If your son is 11 yo then you wouldnt have grown up loving imports. Only people around 23 and younger have had their childhood filled with imports. And these are the people that will teach their kids to love imports in the same way that you taught your kid to love domestics.

I love both, and my kid will learn to appreciate everything.

Well, coming from one that loves muscle cars and the old school cars, the import scene has hit me with a fever pitch.
Since Ive owned my two z24's, Ive really gotten into the scene, learned a ton of stuff from it and have now made it my passion to discard the old school for the new school.
PPl, we cant live in the past with the cars and must move forward.
Fantasizing the past is no good as it will get you no where in todays world.
I never realized there was such an involvement in the sport compact scene and know more about the sport compacts than I remember the muscle cars.
Now dont get me wrong, I still love the muscle cars and go to the local Cruising the Coast event every year and am finding myself with out drool by the end of the event. ;)
I still love the old cars but my passion has changed for the new.
Im 43 years old and love the new stuff.
DGB454, dont let your son become ignorant of the new school.
There is a lot to learn in the sport compact scene and with todays cars, can be competitive with many v8 powered cars of old.
Old school, new school, its all good as long as you dont fall behind.
Just my thoughts.

See, your falling behind Talentless.
If you dont change with the weather, youll surely freeze from the cold.
Surely its the same for the automotive world and change is inevitable.
Gotta love change.
Let the end of the world come, Im ready for it. :haha:

Well,
Thanks for the advice. Muscle cars are a passion of mine that I'm pretty sure he will pick up. That doesn't mean he won't own, drive, and wrench on anything new.
I would be more than happy to help him modify his new sport compact U.S. car.

Besides. Even if he decides never to touch a newer car and opts. to only buy old muscle I doubt that he will get behind in anything that will ever effect his life in a major way. Unless of course he decides to go into the auto industry.
(which I will discourage)

Ive got a 14 year old nephew and have shown him both the old and new.
He loves my car (z24) and loves the old school too.
We both go to the cruising the coast events and have done so with him since its inception.
I dont try to push any car or type of car onto him at all. It will be his mind that will be made up when he decides.
I will tell you this much, he has his heart set on the 70's to early 80's Corvettes. Im not sure what got him to like these, but thats his passion right now.
Gotta love youth.
I remember when I was 10 and all I had seen was muscle cars. Living near a military base (Ft. Dix and McGuire AFB), thats all you would see. Im not talking about just cars, Im talking Shelby500's, 350's, Superbees, 'Cuda's, 442's,GTO's including the Judge, and many more in my streets.
Heh, when your neighbor had a '71 Boss Mustang with the shaker hood scoop right next to you, I enjoyed when he would bring that monster to life every morning going to work. I found myself staring out the window every morning listening to that badarse engine and watching that hood scoop move with the engine. Now thats passion.
Let him make up his own mind and then help him to achieve what he wants with his new found passion.
