Seems a bit complicated compared to rolling the headset volume knob to zero.I simply start a party with only myself in it (forever alone ) and set to party chat. That way you don't have to listen to anybody in online lobbies and you can also still hear your car engine during an online race

I do wish we had more voice chat options, though. That automatic TV-audio-muting you're attempting to avoid is highly irritating, and I find myself doing the same thing -- plugging in the headset only to preserve my gameplay audio.
I didn't realize you could enable party chat without the headset plugged in. I see why you do it that way, then.I avoid the use of a headset when I'm not racing with club members or friends The thing is annoying on my head
