Ooo didn't know your by ATCO do you go to pan ams

Give me a sec and I'll post some pics from the Pan Ams from back in like 04'-05'. My Talon that I've just posted pics of was raced in the Nopi Nationals at Atco on the same weekend they had the Pan Ams. I went to meet up with Sean Ivey to check out the car I would eventually be buying. But about the Pan Ams, I saw so many 6 and 7 second Rotory powered cars it was crazy! Plus every team had a Miata with a rotory motor in it. The dude that won the event and took the trophy had a 7 sec Starlet or something with a rotory motor. It was a tiny little thing but he beat out every big name racer from the states that followed the Nopi tour that time around. Not one single sticker on the little maroon two door. Thats the kind of stuff that impresses me. To build a car that can compete on that level round after round in the hot sun and to be built by some guy in his spare time. No big sponsor. Just a man and his two hands. Whos rewarded strictly by his own ability. Not someone elses work,but exsclusively his own.

The Streetglow car above was built by a chassis shop a few miles away from me called C&F race cars. One of the owners of C&F was the crew chief for the Streetglow Solara team during the time that the pictures were taken.
 
I know what your talking about now. Yeah,the v-band on the exhaust looks like crap because the weekend I did the exhaust I had but one stainless v-band ring and it was defective. It did not sit flush on the turbos vband. It might have been dropped by the retailer because it had just the slightest bend to it. So I was forced to re-use an old 4" vband because I was barrowing a friends TIG for the weekend to get it done. I just figured I would fix it when I get a chance and a new stainless v-band weld-in ring. Other than that everything was done by me at the same time.
Theres nothing "hit or miss" about my welds. Not to pat myself on the back but I'm pretty nasty with a welder. Better than most guys I've paid to weld for me in the past. I took classes on it so It's not a guessing game for me. I see some of these kids that get their hands on a MIG and they use it like a hot glue gun. Monster beads with barely any penatration,not enough juice,not enough gas. One way or the other they just don't know what they are doing and nobody takes the time to teach them how to weld correctly.
All my TIG work is perfect. Sometimes I can get slightly sloppy with a MIG but thats more so because I'm usually in a rush when I'm using a MIG and I just dont take the time that I do when I'm TIG'ing something. But my welds always have plenty of penatration and look decent for the most part.

You do realize the charge pipes are aluminum and the exhaust stainless right?
 
Yes I realise the difference, I TIG weld fuel lines for Rolls Royce areoplanes for a living.
I wasnt pulling your work apart just making an observation.
 
New setup. Oh and guys the car has slicks on it. I just don't leave them on because they lose air when they sit.

Nope! I expect it to hook because of the 26.5 x 9.5 x 16 Hoosiers, the 4 speed Shep trans dogbox with solid diff, and the bullet proof drive train that's in it. I didn't start building these cars just yesterday. I know what makes them go fast and I know what makes them break. They can be one in the same if your not careful things can blow up in your face before you get a chance to even drive it. They can be temperamental when your not use to them. Just like anything else. Time and practice makes perfect.
 
New ignition setup. Spark Tech Drag 2 system. Sequential cdi / c.o.p / quick disconnect harness. The kit consists of an M&W 250 mj ignition, upgraded coils made to handle the 250mj output of the ignition. Also made a 4" aluminum front bumper lip, Magnus 1000+who fuel rail, powder coated valve cover, -10an lines to catch can, one pc. braided clutch line, and a bunch of little odds and ends. Its still a work in progress but its definitely ready to hit the track at a full capacity.

To a tune noob like my self, if I saw that talon on the road, I wouldnt think much about it, in a good way. Love the sleeper vibe and those rims stock? It's not screaming 'look at me , ooo ooo' and I like that.

Ofcourse on the other hand, if I pulled up next to that beast on the road, I'd highly assume I'd hear the motor churn and the exhaust :D

Thanks, man. I like my cars to be low key. Yeah you would definitely hear the exhaust. Its about 3 ft long and exits through the front bumper.
 
That new front lip looks absolutely bad-ass. Your car is insanely mean, I love how it indeed looks low key, but it has the exact details to make it look like it will kill you.
 
Thanks, guys! I appreciate the kind words. I take a lot of pride in my work because I do everything myself in my garage. Machining I do in a friends machine shop. I try to utilize what tools I have at my disposal to fabricate and make whatever I can. Much more satisfying to create something as opposed to just clicking a mouse and waiting for it to arrive in the mail. Its taken me a bit longer being I've done most of the work here but I don't mind. I like being able to say I built the car front to back. Inside and out.

You certainly can and should take pride in your handywork. Specially when you have made it work so well. What are you running, low 9s or so?
 
Oh thanks, Camaroboy. I enjoy doing sheet metal work. Cool to take it from an idea to a finished product.
I also love working with metal. You truly can create just about anything with it if you have the proper tools, imagination, and patience. What type of equipment do you have? Any brakes or presses?
 
Its ran 9.40's on the old setup. Was only making 700hp plus a 100 shot. Ran on a basically stock gearbox. Just a budget 9 sec ride. I haven't had it on the track with this setup yet. It going to a shop in NJ after labor day. Powerhaus in cherry hill,NJ. But this setup should put the car down in the high 8's as it sits now. The motor can generate enough power to go deep into the 8's. It will just take a few outings and some fine tuning to get it there. Believe it or not 1000hp in a 2600lb car is not the easiest thing to get dialed in just right. It does almost 80mph in 1st gear so street tuning is difficult and dangerous. So it needs track time in order to tune the power train and the suspension.
 
Oh I have a few brakes. A 24" a 42". Lots of old sm tools my father gave me. I have a press that I'm fixing. Its a good heavy duty one but it needed some work. Lucky I have a friend with a metal shop that allows me to use his stuff when I need it. Like the English and stuff like that. Believe it or not I use a minimal about of modern tools when it comes to metal.
