Ridiculous. Only police can hold you on suspicion of committing a crime. For a private citizen (or mall security) to hold you, a crime must have already been committed and you identified as the perpetrator.

If no cars had been broken into then there can be no suspicion of it.

I'd think that even police holding you on suspicion of crime is going too far. Habeas Corpus.

GMI usually blows-up with photos like this. They caught what appears to be the same car in Detroit this summer and we all nearly crapped a brick. Then there was the catch in LA as well...

We're close, getting closer. Take the interior design out of the Malibu with a hint of classic design for the outside and you can get a good idea of what the Impala will look like...

I know it's quite dumb but this is not the only time I've been hassled for taking pictures at this mall. The guards seem to think it's illegal to take pictures of things in a public domain. I guess maybe they have watched a bit to much Gone in Sixty Seconds and thing before you go around stealing cars you must photograph them.

DONE

We'll see if it makes front-page or not, but I'm sure that it will get some hits.

...Still looking forward to the Ute and the near-certain Lumina front-ends that will be placed upon them. I really like this Chevrolet version, but like others have said, it looks too much like the G8 to be worth importing here...

But the Buick Park Avenue?

Yeah, they should send a few of those over...

There's only one problem with this car that I can see. It looks just like the G8! Why couldn't they make it like the Malibu vs. Aura? Those cars are very different.

They will, the Chevrolet version is coming, but it just isn't here yet... This is what the GMI guys caught in a photograph from GM not too long ago:

If that is what the Impala ends up looking like, well, it will certainly be very different than the G8/Lumina/Commodore!

I found another one of these today. I hope they weren't trying to keep them secret but I think I've seen about 10 different ones.

Looks pretty awesome in black though.

Yep, but that's all they're empowered to do.

That's ridiculous. If one of the security guards catches him stealing something, the worst they can do is more than kick him out. They can hold him, and they can turn him over to the (actual) police.

That's correct - when a crime has actually been committed then the mall guards, like any other private citizen, can perform a citizen's arrest and hold the perpetrator until the actual police arrive - but only the police have the power to hold someone on the suspicion of committing a crime.

If cars had actually been broken into and Joey was seen doing it, the mall guards, or anyone else, have the right in law to hold him until the authorities arrive. The threat of holding him "on suspicion" is not a right anyone but the police has. As per post #28.

Everyone held by any law-enforcement agency is held on suspicion, based on the theory of innocence until proven guilt.

Thats the color from the "concept" version we had in the US, and I wasn't sure if it was going to make it or not... I like it a lot, personally, particularly if they off set it with a lighter colored interior.

Is that rear "diffuser" always on the SS models? If thats the case that could be a HSV/GTP mule for the US market... I don't think we can call it a GXP until it gets either the LS7 or the LS9.

Some people at GMi are real thickies. They think that GM is gonna sell this here with not a single modification.

Still, very interesting to find one of these in the wild.

I saw that the posting made the news ticker last night, but there had only been about ten postings before I went to bed. The debate will likely be again over if they can sell it here unmodified or not, and as most of the level-headed GM folks know, its going to need a completely new front and rear to be worth anything, not to mention a reworked interior.

Give GM enough time, they'll have it sorted out. With the fuel mileage bill stalling in the Senate once again, they don't have much to worry about with the CAFE standards yet.

EDIT:

They should use the Caprice name as many have suggested. It makes a helluva lot more sense in the lineup with the Malibu being nearly Impala sized, and furthermore, if they use the long-wheelbase model, it gives Chevrolet an excuse to tone-down the "sport" in the first place (like it should be). Long wheelbase, big V8, six-speed automatic; A cruiser that wouldn't look out of place in a vallet lot with 535is and GS350s, and a bruiser that wouldn't be out of place against Chargers and 300Cs.

The Caprice name has significant baggage in the US market and lots of negative association. That name is gone forever.

the real question here is......

girlfriend?? :odd:

nice spot, looks like he might have had a run in with a curb on the front bumper though

I think it depends on where you are and how fondly you remember the last B-Body. They're quite popular around these parts... But, nevertheless, it would be hard to completely drop the Impala name anyway. I just like the old days with the "luxury" Caprice from the '60s and '70s...

The Mini Cooper helped out the most I think, for whatever reason girls love it.

That means I need to buy a FIAT 500 and steer clear of that Subaru Forester I've been eying...

We can see who'll get the most chicks, but I'm willing to bet the Mini will win hands down .

I'm amazed at how quickly this thread go so far off topic....

I would put my money on a 500. I'm sure the chick will find it "cute" and it has the "what is that?" factor. But my car does that pretty well against normal cars....

Quite right, I do believe that the new Zeta will be marketed towards men rather than women much like the Charger was. Funny thing about that is I see more women driving around Chargers than men. I wonder if it will be the same for the G8 and it's siblings?

Quite right, however, you neglect to realize that there hasn't been a full-size RWD sport sedan made available at GM really since the death of the B-Body in 1996 (No, I don't count the Cadillac Catera). We've been waiting for it for some time now, we're well aware of the connections to the Commodore, we're just eager to get it here and actually see and drive it ourselves.

Even though the US has the world's largest automobile market, we've gotten the shaft countless times when it comes to good, rather cool "standard" vehicles. The Commodore, Falcon, Utes, among others, have all sat consistently at the top of that list...

Yeah. But we don't get to see those on our shores much at all.:grumpy: It's special for us and only us.

Not for long. Europe is expected to become the world's largest car market in the very near future.
