Hey guys, I posted this over at the ISR forums and didn't want to retype it so if you read it there, then its the same here. So don't go nuts.
I've been a sim racer now going on a few years since I first played GT on my PSone. I have since gone through 4 home made rigs, a Bob Earl that was customized out the wazoo, a Redline Sims F1 chassis and now this week I'm ordering a VisionRacer VR3. I contemplated for a few days between the VR3 and the Human Racing GT. I mean, I've pretty much ate, slept, and dreamed about these two chassis non stop for at least two weeks. Watching every youtube video I could and weighing the pros and cons.
I decided on the VR3 for a couple of reasons. While I love the minimalistic design of the Human, it seems just a tad to minimalistic, with no cable management. Also I contacted Human several times over the last two weeks with not a single response. Not one.
Third, the chassis has to double as my flight sim chassis. And unfortunately the Human doesn't have anywhere I could mount my Thrustmaster HOTAS.
I love the Human wheel pod though, I mean its freakin brilliant. But the lack of response from Human just really turned me off. And I can't use it for my flight sim gear.
Now, the VR3 lets be honest is just drop dead gorgeous, and yes I'm an eye candy whore and this also played into my decision. But there are a couple of key things that swayed me toward the VR3. Firstly David from simroom is just awesome. I emailed him very late in the evening to an online chat, and he spent the better part of a half hour going through the pros AND CONS of the VR3. His honesty was refreshing. We went over what I wanted in a "boutique" rig and that I needed a rig that doubled as a flight sim rig for my girl. Well he suggested that I run double shifter supports and attach my HOTAS to that. Brilliant![Smile :) :)](/wp-content/themes/gtp16/images/smilies/smile.svg?v=3)
Well I spoke to him about the lack of adjustment of the steering column and we spoke a bit about seat adjustment and how it would suit me. We went over future plans for the VR3 which I'm not at liberty to speak of here but rest assured there is some seriously cool stuff in the pipeline for this chassis. He said I could post this, so here is one of the developments he told me about. Its the VR3 triple monitor stand. He said some serious strengthening of the structure took place to make this happen so its rock steady.
I won't be picking this up because I just don't have the space right now, but those of you who've I've seen on the site that are wanting a triple monitor solution for this rig, well....there ya go. Like I said, I've been mailing David now for a few days and he's been easily the nicest representative of any company I've ever bought anything from. Its the main reason I chose to buy this rig.
So basically I just wanted to let you guys know that I'll be posting new pics of my rig in its new home with new flooring and lighting soon. I just need for the checkerboard tiles to arrive so I can start tiling.![Smile :) :)](/wp-content/themes/gtp16/images/smilies/smile.svg?v=3)
And also that I've lurked around many of the sim racing forums and I think that this rig gets its undo amount of bashing because its "boutique". Well David is an nice as can be and he offered me a solution to my Driving/Flight rig problem. Also he divulged a few sweet nuggets about this rig that he made me promise not to say anything because they are still in development. But needless to say its pretty exciting.
So in closing I'd just like to say thanks to David at VisionRacer/Simroom and I can't wait to get my rig. Keep an open mind, and remember not everybody wants to build a home made rig anymore. I'm 42 and work 60 hours a week. I don't want a homemade piece of wood in my den.
So don't bash.
P.S
David if by chance you read this, just know that if I find anything that I don't like about the rig I'm going to be fair but I am going to post it here. I won't bash, but I'll offer constructive criticism where I think you guys can make it better. Thanks again for reading this novel.
