My Le Mans Disaster(s)

My Le Mans Hell

It was 7pm Saturday night, I thought I’d go for a spin on the Circuit De La Sarthe II in my Nissan R92CP – just for fun of course, I didn’t know I was about to try and win a Bentley Speed 8.

When racing with the Nissan, I was pitting way too early and eventually lost the lead at around lap 20, I restart the game.
Second time I decide to do 30 laps A-Spec then just go to bed and let Schumacher the B-Spec driver take over till morning, it was midnight before I went to bed and I was 1 min 20 ahead of the Sauber Mercedes C9. I woke up to find I was 30 seconds BEHIND the Sauber and Michael was struggling to battle off a Toyota Minolta 88C-V.
That was it, I wasn’t in the greatest of moods as you might expect, another restart, I decide to switch cars and buy a Playstation Pescarlo C60 ’04. Will it be 3rd time lucky perhaps?

I could sense it, I knew I was in for a chance this time with my Pescarlo, I had a few practice runs around the track, just getting used to the car and I felt confident enough to start Le Mans, for real.

I loved the car but I thought it needed more power, 591bhp wasn’t enough for me. :)
I fitted in stage 3 and 4 turbo into my car and it gave it almost double the horsepower!
I decided to A-Spec the first 20-25 laps again as I didn’t have any confidence in Michael because of how he let me down the night before.
I had 2nd place secured, I was about to challenge for 1st when I see my old car, the Nissan R92CP. As I expected I passed it easily and started pulling away from the field. 👍

I had around a 38 second lead when I made my 1st pit stop, around lap 7, when I came out of the pit, I knew it would be tight and I might not come out in the lead, I looked back to see a Mazda 787B! It seemed to have overtaken the Nissan and it must be going pretty quick as the Nissan was gradually catching up on me.
It must be pitting soon, I thought, yeah, right, it didn’t pit for another 4 laps!
I couldn’t believe it, I was about to pit again and the Mazda was just coming in for it’s 1st stop!
Eventually I got my regional lead back (1 min5) and let Michael take control.
Lap 66 and Michael had lapped everybody but the Mazda but he was 41,990 ft ahead. (3min 3sec ahead)
On lap 56 Michael punts off a Ford GT40 at the last turn to lap him for the 13th time.
Michael was killing the pack and lapped the Mazda and was now a lap ahead of most of the pack, for the first time I could see myself winning the race, but on lap 85 the Mazda was fighting back and Michael spun at the bottom hairpin and I didn’t know if there was anything wrong with the car as I hadn’t driven it in 60 laps or so.
What I did know was that I had driven much faster than Mr. Schumacher, he could only manage 216mph whereas I could get past 253!
I also noticed something weird with the cars, when the approached the bottom of the long straight, they would move to the right barrier and stick to it for 10 seconds or so, thankfully, that only happened once so often.
Michael seemed to have improved since the disaster the night before, his fastest lap was 3min 04.045 beating my 3min 08.756, talk about embarrassing!
On lap 129 the Nissan R92CP seemed to have got it’s own back for me dumping it and rammed me off the track at the bottom hairpin. Ok I thought, that’s only 10 seconds or so wasted, who cares, little did I know that it would be longer than that.

Michael got out of the gravel easily last time when he spun off at the same turn, but he didn’t this time, he started hitting the wall right deep inside the gravel, reversing, and hitting the wall again! :scared:
Michael couldn’t get the Pescarlo out of the gravel and I retired from the race.
That really p’d me off, I was expecting to have a nice Bently because I knew the race was in the bag, but poor Michael was hit off the track.
So baisically I was conned of a Bentley because of a glitch. :ouch:
This was really a kick in the teeth, I’d planned everything for this one race, tactics, when to pit etc etc. :yuck:

:guilty: I don’t know if I’ll ever do Le Mans again. :guilty:

Comments and responses are welcome.

UPDATE - 1/06/05

I decided to let Michael do the Le Mans again but all by himself and on steady speed, and he won!
However, in the last 15 mins or so I got all nervous, and A-Spec'd the end.
I now have my beautiful Bentley Speed 8. :sly:

Welcome to the glitchy, bug-riddled Sarthe II 24-Hour Enduro.

Who knows why, but some players run into more of the bugs than others. Some seem to have little or no trouble, while I've seen forum posts from others who just can not win this race no matter what they do. Weird things keep happening to them.

Your wall-slam-on-the-straight glitch is the most common. Others have also reported the stuck-in-the-sand routine.

Many think the problem is that PD did a bad job of revising the code for the Sarthe I track and its chicaned straight into the Sarthe II no-chicane version. Its as if the AI is looking for the chicanes or something, and gets all screwed up.

Sorry to hear you're getting a look at the full of array of problems this race has.

(Two questions: What are your B-Spec stats, and what speed setting are you using in B-Spec mode? Any more than "3" (Steady) can cause all sorts of problems.)

I was on 4 I think because I just came out of the pits.
A-Spec skill: 3634
B-Spec skill: 6858

I'm not too sure if my driver just drove into the gravel or was hit off, I'm pretty sure he was hit off though.

My car had a weird glitch while entering the 23rd hour while 2 laps into the lead. It p!ssed me off. My B-spec driver would accelerate to 140mph and then brake down to 30mph over and over again no matter where he was....He did this for about 15 minutes....He finally started driving normally again when the 2nd place driver came around and nailed me at over 200mph on the mulsanne straight, that finally got my b-spec driver to drive normal again, and I continued on to win, but damn was that nerve racking.

...I was on 4 I think...

I tested all the Le Mans cars, and I only found one that could go error-free on "4" - the Audi R8. The Bentley was almost perfect on 4, but not quite.

With all the others, anything higher than 3 resulted in off-course excursions. If you can bring yourself to do it again, I would leave "Overtake" on and the speed at "3".

Your B-Spec points are plenty high enough. That isn't the problem.

Here's my test, by the way:

Exactly what I saw one of the AI cars do during one of my test stints. Very weird, huh?

Lol when i did it one of the AI cars ran out of fuel which was pretty stupid considering its a computer, but then again its the fabled gran turismo AI, i did it with the R8 set at 4 with racing medium tires it pitted a lap later then the cars with hard and super hard tires. it was stock btw. 👍

Oh yeah SCHuMMY OWNZ

This what I am doing right now. In the 23rd hour with a Sauber MB he is one lap and the whole straight up on a Minolta. Ran the whole race in "3" with Medium front and Hard rear. BTW this is the 3rd (and last) race for my B-spec driver who had 2287 points at the start...

when i did the sarthe II i left my house over night. i only saw the first lap but after that i was gone. so i dont know what happened but i won. it was with a formula 1 car so that might have helped. :)

Something is seriously wrong with GT4 . Its a great game but little things like smashing into the back staight's walls for a few seconds and then speeding up again is making me want to introduce my Dual Shock controller to the wall .

Its been going on for quite a while now . I can manage to get a lead over the AI cars and manage to lap the weakest AI car every few laps (there always has to be a weak AI car in Le Mans , another weird part of Le Mans races) but the next lead car always catches me up . I thought maybe it was that i didn't have enough downforce which caused the car to loose traction at high speed and go sight-seeing .

The slamming into the back straight barrier incident is frustrating and the damn MB Sauber always catches up and eventually passing me or whichever lead AI car there is behind me .

Anyone have any solutions to this cause i really don't want to bash my PS2 to pieces .

I've been doing some testing on the Grand Valley 300, The two cars I've tested both give me a 200 A Spec race... The Re Ameria RX7 and the Altezza Touring car... I found the same thing WOOGIE3 is talking about, I lead out and get 6 - 7 seconds on the AI cars in the first 5 laps, Then over the next 5 laps they pull it back on me... The next 5 laps is spent fighting them off until I pit and it starts again...

I think the reason has nothing to do with downforce, the AI seem to go really easy on cold tyres, then when they warm up they suddenly plant the gas!

So Woogie, From what I can see, the only solution is to get more power in your car or drive it harder.

Back on Topic...

Reading this is making me nervous to do this race.... lol....

No probs with this enduro, B-spec 6400 skill. Toyota GT-one on 3 and overtake, never slammed into the wall and drove the C9 on 4 laps (didn't do A-spec at all)

WRONG!

My B-spec. driver can handle all cars on 4 up into the corner after the straight except from the C-class cars.(yes, without hitting the dirt that is)
