My New Video, Drift Obscenity!!

George Morley
Its not more realistic in GT3, drifting is harder in GT4 which makes it more realistic, you cant just buy a Toyota Supra and drift it, thats how easy it is on GT3.
I'm pretty sure that as long as it was a turbo, you could in fact drift it with no problem, because GT4 is horrible at throttle oversteer. Cars like the AE86 could not, because they need camber and toe adjustment. But cars like the Toyota Supra or Chevrolet Camaro? They would drift if you sneezed on the gas pedal whilst in a tight turn.

You've never drifted a real car have you???

When it's raining my bone stock S13 will drift if you so much as twitch the steering wheel and/or throttle. If you dip the clutch you're garanteed to be sideways, even if you're going in a straight line, wether you like it or not, so long as your below 40mph and in 2nd or 3rd gear. And BTW, car control is so easy that as long as you haven't screwed up your initiation or your line or entry speed.......it's actually boring after a while....

And this is with a 130 rwhp, OPEN DIFF, 2690lb car.

Now imagine a 330 rwhp, LSD, car of equal wieght...... :sly: It'd be like that in the dry.......I know, I've driven a TT Z32. And in the rain...:nervous:

Bottom line.......besides fear and g-force, drifting really is pretty easy once you get used to it. In fact......I don't even notice I'm doing it in the rain sometimes, it's just the way I take turns anymore......

But in the dry my open diff does suck balls. :dunce:

i think its funny how people on this board automatically assume the physics in gt4 are MORE real than gt3.

this makes me want to upload videos of my drifting in gt3. my drifting in gt4 isnt nearly as impressive. probably cause the ebrake sucks crap in gt4, the response of the cars sucks. like going for a long slide and then jamming onto the gas doesnt work in gt4. gah!

I own a stock AE86, and I drift it. So, you can drift anything, even stock.

I was never much of a drifter myself, and though GT3 will always hold a special place in my heart, I can appreciate the all-around greatness of GT4 a little more. Don't get me wrong. I like GT3. A lot. But, if I could only keep one game (for whatever reason), I'd have to take the new one.

Heads up!!

I'm about to post a run of Complex String. I'm trying to 360 into turn 1 to start a never ending 6 minute long solid link drift of the whole track. I can get it, I can do the link drift of the track no problem, I can do it on command, but the 360 is taking so timing to get right. It's not as easy as you'd think.

I'm gonna have to compress this video to get it under 100mb so the video quality won't even be as good as the rest :ouch: But trust me.....you'll likie.

wait youre saying drifting is boring?! then youre not any good. i've been drifting for the last 10 years now. im not saying im pro. nor do i have the time to pursue a pro drifting career. but youre saying car control is "so easy" and thats complete crap. if it was so easy then there would be no point in racing. cause everyones effin great at it

well you said its easy and then you go n say that your open diff sucks on dry pavement.

i cant believe i find drift posers on a freakin video game message board. lol

sucahyo
any suggestion for what tuning needed to make GT4 car drift like GT3 car?
something better than 0.0/12.0 camber?
Yeah. Play GT3. The "New and improved" physics engine in GT4 models oversteer so badly it's pitiful.

Truthfully, look at the GT4 Drift Settings depot in the Drifting subforum in GT4. It won't make that car drive like it was in GT3, but it will aloow it to drift.

WTF are you talking about??.......Drift POSER!!!!!! No not even close.

I drift when it's raining out because of the open diff and unless I try a new set of turns or something unexpected happens...yes it's boring drifting within my limits.......I don't even see it as drifting any more.....to me it's just driving and it happens to be sideways. If you drift the same set of turns enough times that you are SO consistent that you could do it in your sleep, then yes, it becomes BORING. And I have certain routes that I take when it rains, I go take a lap around perimiter drive because it has some really good turns, you can ask any of my friends, I can do some pretty amazing things with an open diff 240sx in the rain. I'm getting to opsite lock and holding it there, I link this set of S-turns (three turns) and get it damn near perfect every time. Then I do it in the oposite direction. After a while I get so that unless there's traffic for me to slide in between it's not even fun anymore after about 2-3 rainy days in a row.

Now drifting up/down Signal Mtn blvd. THAT'S FUN!! Dangerous, but fun. What's just plain scary though is the backside of Suck Creek MTN. That'll scare even the best of 'em just driving it in the dry at night. Especially "Dead Mans Curve" Named for a cross on a tree staring you in the face as you approch the hairpin turn where somebody over shot it and died.

Oh, and have you ever Kansie (sp?) drifted in the dry at 80mph on an open public street in the middle of a bright sunny day on a two lane road?? Yeah, I rest my case.....all this with a stock S13 btw. And yes I do drift curvy roads in the rain and I have been known to do it in traffic. And I very rerely even need my E-brake, I just shift lock, fient, Kansie, clutch kick, or braking drift...rarely I'll do a power over.

All that is fun as hell because it's crazy as hell and dangerous. I know I shouldn't do it on public roads, but I know how to do it within my bounderies, which is why I've never wrecked because of drifting yet. I've spun a few times but I know how to spin out, so I just stay in my lane. And I have had a few run in's with the law too. I actually have to go to court for "driving too fast for conditions" next week for drifting a set of S-curves in the rain, in traffic, and a cop happened to be coming the other way when I exited the drift.

TO ME. It's pretty damn easy to drift when it's raining. If you drive within your bounderies and don't force the car to do something it doesn't want to do it'd be easy for you. You have to listen to the car with your hands and your butt. It'll tell you when it's ok to drift and how much and when it want's to stop. If you force it you'll wreck.

And BTW, I've been drifting since I was 15, now I'm 19, 20 next month. Yes it was hard for me those first 2-3 years because I was trying to force it, but then I started realising to start working WITH the car instead of against it and that's when I got good and it started getting boring drifting my old routes over and over again. Drifting is like anything else. If you do the same thing over and over again, it get's old.

And BTW, I get bored as hell with GT3 drifting ALL THE TIME. That means I suck at it right?? Checked my vids in the OP yet?? I must really suck at GT3 drifting then, In which case.....PLEASE, PLEASE let me see your GT3 drift vids, Oh, DRIFT KING!!!!!

Now tell me I don't know how to drive.......:dunce:

I used to live in Chattanooga, and my family still lives there. I once took my old AE86 up there, and it started to rain. I drove down East Brainerd Rd., turned into Camp Rd., and I just let it rip. I was drifting most of the the turns, then I got to University Drive, and when I got into Collegedale, I had to slow down. Collegedale cops are dickholes. I was gonna go up there for the 4th of July, but my car broke down. I wanted to try my new 86 (with LSD). But I guess not. Camp Rd. is bad ass. I wanted to go to Signal Mtn., but it was too far from where I was. I was dying to do some touge.

As for GT3, I had to buy again, because I lost it. It was only 2 bucks(used)! I had to start the game again, because memory corrupted. I started with a red AE86, got some more money and slapped on a 2 way LSD, a full racing suspension and some bronze Volk Racing TE37s on Sports Tires. Anyway, I took it to Super Speedway (it's where I practice my donuts, drift circles, figure 8s, and initiations with the e-brake around a cone), and the drift cirlces and donuts are amazing. GT4 messed up when they changed the physics. I mean, the physics are great for road racing. I love to drive my FD3S RX-7 at Le Mans, and Nurburgring, but drifting is totally wack. GT4s steering is pretty realistic. It's precise, and it's fast. But the traction issues in GT4 need to be fixed. GT3 is for drifting, and GT4 is for grip.

The Complex String video was pure sex.

Good video, great angles and good links, and I think you had more than enough power to some of long turns in the complex, and good control at long turns to keep good angle. However... because of the BHP, or miss of control at tight corners, so you don't do smoke at some corners. I think that you can step more on the gas too, and control it with more countersteer, and it should led you to more smoke at tigh corners.

Next video you release:

To keep:
Great angles, good control at long and mid corners, line and good links.

To get better:

Better control at tigh corners, and in my opinion, don't drift at long straights and don't a make a spin at the entrance, it shows control, but for me, it doesn't look very cool.

I think that you should too always alternate to another courses, like, you drift a corner in trial mountain, and the next drift maybe ssr 5, or another course.

Cool, and thanks for the comment. And yeah, I know what you mean about the tight corners thing. For some reason I have a hard time getting smoke and angle in a hairpin and still keep my exit speed.....

I'll try working on that some more.....

Thanks. 👍
