My obsession with the Nordschleife.

I don't know how many laps I've done since GT4, 5 years ago, GTPSP, which I still play, GT5, which I play since over two years ago and still lap the ring atleast once everyday.

One lap around Nordschleife a day , keep the doctor away :D

Surprisingly , my "fav" track according to GT stats is Bathurst (I must have run it 50 times those first few days:ill:) , but I've done numerous laps on Nordschleife in various games (GT,FM,SHIFT) and I love PDs recreation. Lately, I've been hotlapin Yellow Bird (stock+no aid+cs> 8:05) a lap or two everyday and while it can be sometimes frustrating keeping that car on track ,It is great satisfaction when I do that perfect lap.

Kaz has more than 2.000 virtual laps.

That is not much to be honest. My GT6 stats count already 15.164,6 km for the 24h layout only. That would equal 597 laps already, they weren't all full laps though. GT5 on the other hand, when Mount Panorama as the only viable alternative wasn't there.. Is this obsession?

15.164,6...

@FussyFez

The start of your OP was an exact description of my experience when GT4 was launched.
Ever since, I've spent thousands of (virtual) hours there.

I'm still obsessed with it to this day.

Someone once said about the Nordschleife: You spend 100 laps learning the track, and the rest of your life perfecting your lines.

I watch a lot of VLN onboard videos on the tube to get impressions and I can recommend everyone to do the same.

RIP Sean

.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

I'd give good money to be passenger in a car, piloted by someone with excellent knowledge of the place

I once watched a video of a commentator going shotgun in a V8 supercar around bathurst.

I can only imagine my experience would be along the same lines.

"you can't race here! "

"when are you going to brake!? "

I think knowing the track would make it worse. Knowing we are heading into a corner at what seems like warp speed, to just have the driver seemingly effortlessly coax the car perfectly round and off towards the next braking zone.

I'm a terrible passenger as it is. I think I would be in tears of joy and fear by the end of sub 7:30 lap.

Heck, even a lap in a ring taxi would probably have me weeping.

Let me offer a small "gift" to all of us who love Nürburgring Nordschleife, one of the most rewarding tracks of the world.

Out of the 1.241 cars of GT6, 116 have registered real-life lap times in Nürburgring.
(Check out fastestlaps.com for more details and info)

A few months back, I decided to create and share with all GTPlanet members a full list of those 116 cars.

You may find it and download it (in pdf or xls form) in the "Gran Turismo 6 vs Reality @ Nürburgring Nordschleife" thread...

This a sample of the 1st page:

What is your favorite car to ride there with SRF off...

@Vegard

That video is great. Not seen that particular one.

Some excellent, calculated driving there. Nothing too hasty, everything very clean and controlled. The way he gets the car turned in to some of the corners after being completely off-line after a pass or defending is amazing.

A great loss for the motorsport community.

Just shows that, although I'm comfortable hot lapping here on GT, and the fact I like to think I'm pretty handy behind the wheel in real life, I doubt I could ever compete at that level on this track.

Way too much going on, at such speeds, with so many tiny, but important features to tackle.

Massive respect to anyone who competes on the 'ring.

The ns is really nice to have in a video game.
Started with this racing game lol. And look were we are now. 10 years ago when playing live for speed i thought if we can have this kind of realism plus the nordschleife. .. now playing gt6 And before that it was possible in gt5. (Didnt like the physics of gt4)
So thanks to everyone who made this track/game possible!!

Sounds a little odd, but there is nothing better to me, in gaming terms, than driving the Nordschleife at either dusk or twilight ( into the pitch black late night ) in my Takata Dome NSX '03 or Honda S2000 LM Race Car, listening to dark ambient drone like this :

The 1 hour 33 minute running time helps matters :)

I zone out.

The track has EVERYthing one could want. As lame as it sounds, you become one with the car and track and the pure joy of driving around it relaxes and fill me with euphoria at times, depending on how well i am driving lol

I don't make great times, despite using the excellent car-tunes that have been posted on GTPlanet, but i don't mind. Just happy to hot lap until the sun comes up

This is the man to thank :

(wiki
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nürburgring )

The original Nürburgring was to be a showcase for German automotive engineering and racing talent. Construction of the track, designed by the Eichler Architekturbüro from Ravensburg (led by architect Gustav Eichler), began in September 1925.

The history is very interesting.

Must admit I have never looked into it.

Built due to safety issues with road racing.

Inspired by the the targa florio and the recently built monza.

It's only 13 years off of a century!

Hopefully I can get over there and experience it first hand sooner rather than later. Given all the hullabaloo with owners etc recently.

I encourage everyone that loves the track to visit it. Ride your own car inside the Nordschleife... There aren't enough words to describe it. Also, the precision of PD's recreation of every single corner allow you to make fast laps since the very first 5 or 6 laps.

Btw, the castle isn't outstanding. The village of Ahrweiler, recreated as photo location in GT5, located just about 60 km of the ring, is a must see if you are in the circuit.

OH YES!! I do so love it. I love to take a normal road car, add meduim sports tires and just go.

Other tracks? Well, in GT Legends/etc, I feel the same way about Cadwell Park and especially the Goodwood Circuit.

I loved all of the GT games starting with the first one, but GT4 and the Nurburgring.. I was active on Gamefaqs back then and someone started a thread where they picked a car of the day and everyone ran a lap of the 'Ring and compared thoughts, I think it was called the Ring Diary or something. I loved it! While GT changed the way I looked at driving games, the 'Ring changed the way I played racing games. I suddenly enjoyed time trials, I didn't need a crowded track. Just me and the car and the time ticking away. I loved it and I've been really in love with it ever since. I can't get enough of the Nurburgring! :embarrassed:

And with GT5 and now GT6 being online and the whole track day feeling, I actively look online for someone hosting a sort of track day or cruise on the Nurburgring. I never look for actual races anymore. I just want to drive around the Ring, relax and tune my car and enjoy it all. Although sometimes an impromptu race breaks out, it's so much fun!

It is definitely my favorite track of all. I must have driven close to 6000 km on it, just on GT6.

I'm on a quest of running one lap in Nordschleife on each of the road cars in my garage.

I get a car, put on Comfort tires (usually CM, CH for slower cars), try to correct any mistake on specs by PD and run a lap as fast as I can. If the car has a lap recorded IRL, I compare the times to see if my choice of tires was accurate.

Fuzzyfez It truly is an awesome place, have been going there many years now & am going in July for a week in the 205 Mi16. Even crashed in 2011! Its a must to drive in real life, Need to stop comfort braking this year lol.
Where did you fall off man?

Have fun! Remember its real life lol.

I would be so cautious on my first visit, I would probably be slower than some people with no experience.

I doubt I will ever be able to run a proper hot lap there in real life. Visit and lap a few times yes, but the cost alone would stop me every getting enough real world experience there to run a genuine hot lap.

A lottery win would see me with a second home in the nearby country side. In the infield preferably!
