My obsession with the Nordschleife.

i always thought it was all about the weight distribuction at the corner exit, of course car height is a factor to be added.
So far, how is the ring on Pcars? better or worse? Videos floating online made me curious
My first impressions were like: is this the Ring ?
It takes some laps to get used to the new feeling and scenery.
But it is very rewarding. It feels MUCH more real.
Changing car height (for instance) has a great impact on the cars ability to take kerbs and you can really feel all of that.
I've seen video's of IRL accidents on the Ring and I sometimes wondered how the drivers could lose their cars at these specific places. I did try (a lot) to replicate these crashes, but could not manage.

I can tell you that in PCars I have had had these exact accidents several times (without trying :D) before I adapted to the "new" Ring.
So it is safe to conclude that PCars physics are very close to reality and way more correct than in GT.

Caracciola in GT is not even close to how it really is. In PCars it is a frightening corner which allows not even the slightest mistake.
The mini carroussel (after Schwalbenschwanz) is also totally different from the GT version. It is very easy to make mistakes similar to the ones in the posted video's, whereas in GT you could get away with almost every mistake.

Like I said: I love the Ring even more now

Only gripe: the 24hrs layout is not available (yet). Both tracks are present but there is no connection for now.

Hah, it's the ring way to say "try it yourself".
How are endurance races structured on pcars? is there a 24h of the ring yet? if so is it a full 24h or something less hard?
And how'd you find the ring on pcars in wet condition? Because i always thought that the wet nurburgring on GT6 is excessively tough, where the most difficult thing to do is to keep the car on the right part of the track rather than getting decent times

I think there is a 24hr, but I have not had the invitation yet.
I did Le Mans 24 and Bathurst (for some reason 25hrs).
In both of the races I had to retire because of too much damage on the car.
In Le Mans it happened while (in a Z4 GT3) trying to avoid two upcoming LMP cars that surprised me in the first chicane at Mulsanne. I hit the tire wall at reduced speed, but the impact was hard enough to crush the hood and make the headlights shine in the wrong direction. With the roof cam (I use cockpit view) I could still see over the hood, but when daylight faded, it was the end of the race for me. Pitcrew was not able to repair...
Until now there is no mid race save (like in GT5), but it seems to be coming. For now you have to pause the game. And not put the PS4 in rest mode, because then you lose all progression in the race as I found out the hard way...
There are sliders to shorten (compress) the race to (if memory serves me) 4 hrs minimum.

But, while in GT I could drive for 4 or 5 hrs or even more without problems, in PCars I manage 2-3 hours max, especially on the Nordschleife, even in dry weather and during daylight period.

In wet conditions it is really hard, because AI still seems to be less affected.
Anyway, in the rain your laptimes suffer BIG TIME, even with IM or full rain tires.
In stead of screaming tires in GT, you hear engine, road, brakes and raindrops falling on roof and windshield.

Hello Fanapryde
If you still have GT6 and if you have free time can you try this setup on the Nordschleife and tell me how is it compared to Project CARS :)

Can't try that any more.
PS3 and GT5/6 are sold already :D

But there is not much to compare I'm afraid. I had lots of fun in GT5/6, but PCars has opened a complete new dimension to me.
(The BMW 135i is not in the game either).

That is against AI yes, looks pretty real eh ?
Yes, PS3/GT5-6 are sold.

Looks amazing.
I'm still doing GT6 because I have a G27 and the investment would be new wheel, new console and the game. So I'm holding off for a little while.
But I'm extremely jealous whenever I see gameplay footage of it....

As you probably noticed, there is something wrong with the video. In the cutout you see the rain, in the main screen not, at least not at the same time.
And the quality is not as good as what I see on my screen, but it gives a nice impression of the Ring.
Holding the game off for while is not a bad idea, there are still bugs that need tking care of. But none of them are game breakers, and the devs are working hard on that.

I can deal with bugs in a first gen game. Consider how many GT6 came with and its hard to fault PCars for any of them.
I'll probably take the plunge sometime early next year, so that I can get PCars in a later version and GT7 when it comes out and my main GT league moves to it.

Oh, that was you with the red lotus with the perso number plate? I was there with the black MR2 :)
Did 5 laps on Saturday and 4 more on Sunday.

Yes, that was me :-) what a small world to see you on gtplanet, but I think I have seen your car before (autoforum?)
Saturday was an unlucky day for me, each time I wanted to go for a lap, it was closed.
I did 5 laps on Sunday, with my first wet lap.
I think I have a picture from your car at Nordkehre.

Two weeks ago I had another trip to the ring. That place is so amazing ...
I made this little video: (the music was a tribute to one of the crazy Isle of Man TT video's)

A bit late, but nice video 👍

I was at the ring in mid June and rented one of the Clios from the shop behind the cafe. Amazing experience! I got a little lucky with a red flag that got thrown about 2min after I got on track - that meant that I only got passed by about 6 cars and could concentrate on what was in front of me and not behind. Feel bad for the guy who binned his motorbike at Pflantzgarten to cause it though.
That parking lot is a car spotter's wet dream too. I was a bit nervous backing my rental car (the road going Peugeot, not the track car) out of the parking lot not to scratch the car next to me (my car is the white one).
