From the General Question thread:
No way! I'm having the same problem as you right now!!!!
Only difference is, my firefox is lagging (forget about IE, its almost impossible to use it now) and I actually know what causes the problem. A few days ago I tried to install Adobe Flash on my PC, and somehow I was dumb enough to use the keygen (which has a trojan in it) and well, 🤬 happened! I scanned for the PC, deleted the virus and uninstall Flash. Now however, its gotten worse. My only problem is my C: drive is very fragmented, and I can't do a defrag cause my HD space is less than 15%. :banghead: Just need to finish download a thing or to on BitComet and I'll put it in my other HD, and hopelly get to defrag my PC and everything goes back to normal. 👍

I may need to scan my pc again some day just to see if there is the trojan is still there..... :nervous: Been really busy these last few days I can't even do anything on my pc...... :(

Okay, it happened just yesterday. As I was doing a clean up on my pc, I decided to do a disk cleanup and a disk defragment. After I did all that, my pc was just fine and seems there is nothing wrong with the pc. I off my PC to go to tuition and when I came back, my PC won't boot up properly. After the POST process, my BIOS started to make a loud and long beep and my monitor screen is black. I already had this problem for awhile, and I will usually just let my pc run for a few minites and reset my pc and everything was fine again. But this time it was just bad luck, after several times of trying to reset the pc, the pc fails the POST process and make that awful sound. I don't know whats the cause of the problem, but I'm guessing it has to involve with my RAM, Graphic Card or my mobo.

If its a simple fix, I'll be lucky to get away with it, if not then I just have to live with it. :( Currently I'm posting from my fathers laptop, and I got to say I'm not enjoying it one bit! :grumpy: However, this could just be a blessing in the sky as then I wouldn't be using the computer as much and hopefully will start studying for my big exam this year. So if you guys have any suggestion or advice, please do tell me as I really need a good advice concerning this.

But I think the PC has passed its life anyhow, being almost over 3 years old now. Should be a good excuse to get a new laptop, maybe even a Mac if possible. :D

Can you get into safe mode?
Well.....no. This happens during start up. When the PC tries to boot up, the monitor just went black (or the BIOS screen didn't appear on screen at all!) and the BIOS would make a long beep (like 2-3 seconds) and I miserably fail to find whats the problem with my PC.

black screen in post screen could be a mainboard (chipset, mosfets or capacitors can be burned), ram (mostly slot error), power supply, cpu or graphic card problem. well there is nothing else left too much :)

-if you are using 2 ram slot. try to run it just one. maybe one of your ram is damaged.
-check your mainboard condensers. are they looking too fat or did they blow up?
-clear your cmos. that will reset your bios and back to default settings. a cmos jumper on the mainboard do that.
-push your cpu fan cooler while you open your pc. heavy cpu cooler can slide cpu socket.
-if you have another power supply. try it.

A long beep sometimes means bad ram. Take all of the modules out and reinsert them. If it still happens try one at a time (assuming you've got more than one) and figure out if one is bad. Also try using one in the different slots in case one of the slots has failed.

If none of that is the problem it gets to be a real pain in the ass if you don't have other parts to try (CPU, GPU, power supply, etc). Try disconnecting anything unnecessary and seeing if anything changes. Just leave the video card, RAM, and the CPU (not sure if I'm forgetting anything here) connected/installed and see what it does.

And, who knows, maybe just clearing the CMOS will work. Depending on the motherboard you may have a jumper that you have to use or you'll have to take out the battery (with the PC unplugged) and leave it out for 30 seconds or so. I always hit the power button when I do that to try to draw power.

It could also be dead video card. If the card is built-in on the mobo then you may be able to install an addon card and get past it. If it's already a card in a slot, replace it and see what happens. Maybe you've got a buddy who'll lend you one to try.

Argh, I think my computer is done for. I tried to remove and place back the RAM and tried to reset the BIOS (by removing the battery) and I still have the problem. I don't think my RAM had any problems, and I'm not really sure if my graphics card is shot. Only think I can conclude is my PC is officially dead. Nothing I can do to fix it now, either my RAM or Mobo that is fried. I'm totally giving up using that PC and hopefully just concentrate on my studies.

Don't know if my parents would get angry, but...... *sigh* wish my PC hadn't died on me like this. :banghead:

New PC time then?
I guess. But it won't be until next year. 👎 I'll probably get a part time job by then, and hopefully have enough money to buy a MacBook Pro. 👍 On the other hand, If the PC can be repaired then I guess it would be alright. Could always upgrade my PC or something..... :)
(or maybe even do both if possible. :dopey:)

Well as if things can't get any worse.......

Just a few hours ago while surfing the internet, my dad's laptop got a virus attack. There wasn't any sign of it (other than a slowdown, which is common on my dad's old laptop) It just came out of nowhere! When my Avira picked up the virus, it was just too late to do anything..... It just wasn't any trojan virus, its the one that can't stop multiplying!!! Almost immediately the laptop starts acting up and the Avira warning pops up once every few seconds...

Thats not even the worst part. As this happens, I tried googling for help and manage to find a solution. So I downloaded and install SDFix (or whatever it was called) and tried to reboot the laptop in safe mode. After I did that, I was at the logon screen and would login as usual. But to my disbelief, the virus had changed the password without me noticing it!!! :banghead: So now I am locked out of the laptop and have no chance of saving it. :(

So like yeah, life has never been kind to me. Even when I would enjoy life a little bit, it takes one small thing to happen to make my life miserable. As to say, 🤬 always happens to me, whether I like it or not. First it was my earphone, then it was my headphone, then a few months later it was my pc, and now this. I rather kill myself than have to go through this hell than anything. I know there are more people who are more unfortunate than me, but you guys will never know how much pain I had inside me.....

You can reset the password on Windows laptops. If you can't find a tutorial, PM me.

As for me, I think my life is like the opposite of yours :P... I had no computer and was relegated to my dad's crappy 256MB RAM, 4-year-old computers, which he was usually using and I couldn't install anything on or download anythingon, and my headphones have always been 99 cents 'phones that break in a month, but I'm getting a laptop this christmas and I just got an awesome pair of $7 headphones... $7 headphones FTW :dopey:

makes me glad I poked AVG back on this thing. gotta figure out how to get my spyware scanners to run in the BG, tho.

Well good news everyone, the drama is over! Finally got the laptop to work again. 👍 SDFix was a good application to remove the virus at desperate times, and after scanning twice with my Avira antivirus, the trojan was not detected. Don't know how bad the virus would cause damage to the laptop, but it was quite a rollercoaster ride for me.....

As for the PC, after talking with my brother in law, he said it could very well be a graphics card problem, since he said he had the same thing happened to him before. He also agreed to send it for repairs, but not sure if the cost of the repair would come out of my own pocket...... :indiff:

Sorry about the desperate post, I could be emo at times and have these sort of mood swings..... :irked:

Methinks you need to lay off the porn or something.

I haven't had any anti-virus for about 2 years now, and as long as I'm careful, the computer still runs fine and doesn't act up.

Same. And I've gotten a lot of 'backups' of games, too.

You just need to be careful on Bittorrent and Limewire. Also, there is free porn without viruses. I can't share it in the public, though.

Agreed on both accounts. Its probably a bit tempting at times, but I should try not to trick myself into doing it over and over again. Yeah, should probably go to some of those adult forums if you ever need safe, virus free pr0n or some 🤬. I never used Limewire like I used to, since finding things to download using google and blog search seems to be more easier, and I have a better chance of finding something that I really want. 👍 On the other hand, I only used torrents when I'm downloading anime or some music discography or some stuff..........

Urgh, if I could find a way to surf the internet safely without getting a virus attack, even if I had to use a lame old pc or use Linux or Mac OS, I would so totally do it......

Muzzy I don't understand how you manage to get viruses like this. I've run my old PC for about 5 years without having an Anti Virus and no viruses got in. Yet, I downloaded all this stuff and nothing still. Maybe you're like...really unlucky.

No really, I am that unlucky. :guilty: My life has always had their share of bad luck, and somehow if I could count the ratio of the number of bad luck happening to me in a month is 1/50 or less...... :ill: You know what, I was born unlucky, thats what!!!!
