Well, I saw all the cool racing cockpits people have made and I said "why don't I make one?" I don't have much of a wheel (just a regular Driving Force that only cost me $62 about 6 years ago), so I decided I would make a shift knob too. These are the supplies I need for it:
-plywood (for structure and paintability)
-wire (for connecting the shift knob)
-old, useless controller (the brains of the shift knob)
-Switch with 2 settings (for the shifter)
-shaft and knob (for the shifter)
-soldering supplies

I have all of these supplies, I just need to get off my lazy butt to make this. These are the steps for each part:
Main Cockpit:
-mark wood for cutting
-cut wood
-put wood together

Pedal Holder:
-mark wood for cutting
-cut wood
-put wood together

Shifter
-mark wood for cutting
-cut wood
-put together most of shift box
-solder correct wires to correct places on switch and controller
-install switch
-put together rest of shift box
-install shaft and knob

Here are some pictures of the project that I made in Google Sketchup (note that not all lines mean that I use a new piece of wood):
