Nissan 350Z Roadster
Amazed at the work we saw on the Skyline Coupe, we convinced the team at N-Tune to fly us over their 350Z Spyder for some track testing. Our hopes were high, and they were nearly met. The rolling road gave us 358bhp and 451Nm of torque, just as were written on the piece of paper stuck under the wipers.
We headed to the test track, where we pulled the stopwatch out. 0-60 came in a surprisingly swift 4.7 seconds, a 1/4 miles in 13.1. The top speed on our 10km bowl was 185 mph.
The first thing everyone noticed though while we were doing these tests was the incredible noise that was coming from that racing exhaust. We were so pumped and could hardly wait to get back to the Twin Ring to throw it around some corners.
It certainly wasn't as lively as it sounded, we're sorry to say. It would certainly grip in well, but that was somewhat the problem. The car turned in that well, with minimal understeer that it almost became boring. The quick times lap after lap became almost dismal. Annoyingly, once you push it beyond the limit, it will not slide out, just meerly understeer into the gravel traps. That said, we were lapping in 1' 33.8 seconds, with the fastest lap being 1' 33.576. Fantastic times for a front engined car, for the price that it is.
On the negatives, however, if you're looking for a car to play ball with the smoke, I think you're better off looking at a different model.
The positives far outweigh the small drawbacks though. A brilliant car to drive fast, easily. A fantastic car to learn how to lap the more complex circuits in, and frankly a beautiful looking car. A great effort at a car that previously handled like a dog.
