NASCAR Expansion Discussion

So out of complete morbid curiosity, I joined an E class hopper and brought out my E300 El Camino. Everyone else was using Indy cars and the Lotus E23, except for 2 others who clearly wanted a proper E class race, as one was in the Willy's Jeep, and the other was in the Mazda Cosmo. The race started, and I maybe moved 30 ft before getting pushed up to around 160mph by an E23 and drilled straight into the first wall on Road America. I recovered, and saw that the Jeep was being ganged up on by two Indy cars. Coming onto the second straight, I was rammed so hard by an Indy car, that he spun out, and I went flipping hard off the track. I quit right after.

Doesn't sound much different than a normal online room tbh, except now the hoppers are borked. Looks like I'll mainly be sticking to Ghost Leagues.

Picked up the pack yesterday and have been really enjoying it. Took me around 3/4 attempts to get through the introduction race at Homestead, but managed to squeak the top 3 requirement.

Been running the Tony Stewart #14 so far in the Icons Tour (because reasons) and it feels grippy yet big and heavy in the corners on road courses. The power can be controllable as long as you don't let the back slide too far. Did the Daytona race on Unbeatable AI and it felt epic despite winning by a lap due to a "Big One" happening behind.

I also noticed that in sustained draft on Daytona, the safety flaps on the hood begin to flutter a bit, which I found really cool.

Looking forward to hitting the paint shop.

Got given a code recently so I figured I'd try this out; need to get back up to 100% completion anyway ;)

There are some promising things in the World Tour part of this expansion, namely the tutorial-style videos early on. Granted they only teach you about the new/updated features (QuickStops, Drafting etc.) but hopefully this is a sign that Turn 10 will have more tutorial-like clips in future titles. Goodness knows half of the Hopper population need to learn how to get round a corner cleanly ;)

I'm half way thru the career and the races can be frustrating simply because I think the AI thinks that since its in Nascars then why not do the whole "rubbing is racing ethos" and pitt me and other drivers at will.

Turn 1 at Laguna and Long Beach is a mess. A waste. Sad! (as Trump would say).

Do you want to see Nascars in the dolphin fountain? Do you want to stare at the painted-on headlights of multiple opponents? Do you want to get violently pitted in a hairpin resulting in you getting fatal damage? Its all here.

Do you also want to see the ridiculousness of Nascars vs Formula E? Do you want to get ganged by Porsche and McLaren GT cars who are faster everywhere so you got to drive 'creatively'?

The tighter the track the worse it is. Prague is fine since its so wide but the AI seems to think that three abreast on Rio should be the norm and doesnt want to yield.

So my ultimate goal is to quickly get ahead so you can have a shot at the two rabbits.

Also due to the mid pack carnage you get the "Driver 05 is in the pits" at lot. Mid pack is death. Avoid.

I'm disappointed in how little they use the quick stop mechanic.

This truly is a useful and clever tool to inject strategy into races and its rarely used even in a 1 stop capacity let alone multiple stops.

This is something good they have given us, it should have been there day one, it should have been used not just in nascar but in every Forza race in any class but no... what a waste, a mess. Low energy. Sad.

Mh. I'm not saying that I don't agree with what you're saying, but with the lenght of career races, I doubt there would've been much of a chance to fully use that mechanic. And let's not delude ourselves, the average racing game player doesn't want to be stuck racing a NASCAR stock car for an hour to advance in the career mode.

Still, it's good to have that mechanic in the game. The real fun's in organized online racing, anyways. And there are no short attention span problems there: if you're signing up to race in a league, you are committed. I've raced in a couple of series with mandatory pitstops, but they are hard to implement with no racing steward/watchman - automating this and rolling starts is a very good step in the right direction, imho.

You know, most people know, theoretically, how to get around a corner cleanly... And are far from disingenuous in their ramming and tail-hitting. Let's not separate lack of skills with lack of sportsmanship.
