need help in playing GT2 on PS2..,

hey, people of GTPlanet!!

wow, been a long time since i have posted here on GTP.., well, to start, i have a bit of a problem..,

last two weeks, my dad finally bought a PS2 "after 5 years" (dream come true).., the one he bought was a PS2 Slim, it was really "slimmer" compared to the first PS2.., so i went, i grabbed my CD in GT2 and inserted it into the PS2.., but when it was reading the CD, it says "Please insert a PlayStation™ or PlayStation 2™ CD".., i checked the CD, it was properly inserted, the three tabs clicked meaning they were above the CD. i went for another go, still it failed.., also, my PS2 would not read my PS1 memory card, which is weird.., please help me, i miss my cars in GT2

Don't shoot the messenger, but I think that the slim PS2 cannot play PS1 discs, due to the reduced hardware that in turn reduces its size. As far as I know, the slim PS2 can only play, well, PS2 games.

That's kind of odd, because my PS2 slim fired GT2 right up. It, however, will not read a PS1 memory card.

Not true. I've played GT2 and plenty of other PS1 games on my PS2 slim.

...so I have no idea what your prob could be...how scratched or damaged is your disc? If it looks okay, I really don't know what to tell ya. That sucks big time.

i have read something on the instructions manual.., it says there, "the PS2 can only play PS1 games of the NTSC/J type. it will not read CDs of the NTSC/ U/C type" or something like that. i dont get it, what does it mean?? oh i almost forgot, can the PS2 Slim read PS1 memory cards?? i tried inserting mine into the "Magic Gate" but nothing appeared in the browser..,

I'm not sure what that means but I think it has something to do with your television set and where you live. I guess find out if your disc is of the J type or the U or C type??? Where did you get your disc? Did you get it online?

If I were you, I'd be calling Sony Customer Service or visiting their website to find the answers. This is a pain in the ass (I had to contact Sony once to find out how to get my Everquest Online disc to play) but it's probably the best way to go.
