Need help with Hot Lap

Hello,

I am just beginning with Shift 2 and have some problems getting through the Hot Lap portion. It is in Section 8/9 of the career mode. I can't seem to find the right car to use. I have tried the Lamborghini and the best finish I had was 4th. Seemed like when I would go for the Lamborghini, the opposition had them and faster cars, too. I tried the Focus Rs/st but the same, couldn't make the podium....

Any ideas as to what car would be best to use for this section? BTW, I have tuned as per this website.

BTW, I have been a lurker on the Shift section, and just to let the community know...I think that Shift 2 is a pretty intense experience. I have been lucky in that I have only experienced a few freezes (PS3), but its not an earth-shattering problem resetting and starting again. I do hope that the third patch does come out for this game, though. And I understand the frustration from people that have more issues.

Me, this is my third PS3 racing game Shift 1 and 2 and GT5. I like them both (GT5 and SU2). Each is a different experience and I get something out of both of those games, depending on my mood. It's a shame that with all of the problems that I heard SU2 has with EA and SMS, that I think that this will be the last in the series:grumpy:

One question to those that have raced in REAL life...Between GT5 and SU2- which game seems to capture what is like to be in a race? Is it more like GT5 (clean driving) or bump and grind and cut-throat like in SU2?

Just wondering:)

Thanks for any assistance with the hot lap, though..

Section 8/9 is B-Class, so you will need a strong (preferably tuned) B-Class car for the races, I had very good results with a T-12 (Renown Tuning Unleashed) tuned Nissan GT-R SpecV (R35) B-Class version.

In the Hot Lap events you are supplied the car, and cannot choose, the car is completely stock, same applies to the Eliminator events.

My advice for Hot Lap events is to use Quick Race to pick the same track and untuned version of the car as the Hot Lap event and practice there using Time Attack mode until you get your lap times down low enough to place on the podium.

For Race events practice you can do the same with Quick Race using Race mode, by choosing the same track used for the event and the car you intend to use.

Because the time of day varies from career event to event, so its always a good idea to start the event briefly to figure out the time of day used for it, so you can replicate that in Quick Race.

Also changing the difficulty setting in Options menu changes the lap time goal times for Hot Lap events and for the Races XP rewards for lap times.

For the Time Attack Career section in 8/9 (Class B) I used a T-12 Tuned Nissan GT-R SpecV (R35) Works Converted.

I was able to win the Time Attack Scion but it took a bit of practice, especially the Glendale West track at night.

There is no P-limit for Time Attack career events, you can pretty much use any car and upgrade it the way you want.

Here is the link to the Renown Tuning Unleashed OP that has links to all the tunes.

NFSUnlimited also has a tuning page:

Hope this helps.

Sorry for the confusion...you right, It's called Time Attack, where I race in a car of my choice with 7 other cars. That's where I am having problems...I'll try the Gt-R.

Thanks for the help!

Take a car with all the best suspension upgrades and only so much power and tune it good. Then the AI wont have fast cars on the straights (relatively similar to yours) but you will dominate them through the corners.

For example, for those races I took my S3 and modified it to B1115. Relatively low power but boatloads of 4WD grip. To say I annihilated the competition would be an understatement (over 2 sec ahead in every single race) and I am really not a great driver.

Also test what you like better for those races: Driving in the field for slipstream or waiting till the gap to the other drivers is big enough and have a clear lap without traffic. I prefer a clear lap.

I think that's really good advice for the non-championship Time Attack races, but for the Time Attack Championship you will need something really fast.

Sorry I was not clear enough, my advice for the Nissan GT-R SpecV (R35) Works Converted applied to only the Time Attack Championship.

I only used the Nissan GT-R SpecV (R35) Works Converted for the Glendale West & Suzuka TA Championship races because of 4WD.

I used the NFS HP Pagani Cinque reward car for the other two Time Attack championship races.

I used a variety of other cars for the non-championship events, selecting cars based on the type of track but mainly tuned for grip and suspension.

...also one more tip, if you want to get an idea of the approximate time you have to beat for the Time Attack events for the car you have chosen, pull over after the start and watch what times the AI are running, the fastest time will be posted every lap.

...but make sure to quit the event before the clock runs out so you do not lose the event.

...then go back to Quick Race/Time Attack mode and practice until you can consistently beat the AI times.

For Time Attacks I always slowed down at the very beginning and let the field pass me. Gave them about a 20 second pad then I took off so I could have totally clean track in front of me.

Since you're racing the clock and not the AI there is no reason to battle the other cars.

Thats true, of course. For the Championship you need something thats at least close to Rados 1950PI Scion.

Except for the challenge and the fun...;)
