I've got to tell you, I'm pretty darn impressed with Netscape this time around.

That's not to be taken out of context; Netscape 8 runs on the Firefox engine, or on "approved" pages you can give it the option to use the IE engine. Good idea if you asked me, although it makes it more of a customized wrapper rather than a browser.

It imported everything from Firefox without a hitch, bookmarks and such. It also has a nice little webmail checking thing built in, and a local weather checker. Along with that, some type of security center, although I'm not too sure exactly what that does.

For some reason, even though it's running on the Firefox engine, it feels snapier to me than Firefox. Perhaps it's all in my mind, you never know - Either way, I'd certainly give it a try. I think you'd be suprised.

For your downloading pleasure, here's a link:

Mail checker? Weather checker? wtf would I need that crap? I have a bookmark for that stuff. Why are people building this crap into programs these days? They're just memory hogs that you don't need, like Konflabulator, or whatever it's called. Just like the google search bars, yahoo! search bars, and all those web bars. You don't need them! They're called bookmarks/favorites for a reason. They're there for easy access. You maybe save 2 seconds with a built in weather tracker, but chances are, you don't need to know the weather every 5 seconds. It just wastes resources.

I rather devolve back to IE than use Netscape.

And I thought Netscape wanted to be a low cost ISP front for AOL anyway?

What's funny is when people speak with absolutely no knowledge of what they're talking about.

Just so you know, Netscape on average uses less memory than Firefox.

Well, it isn't like Netscape anymore. It uses the Firefox engine, as well as the IE engine on selected "acceptable" sites.

I suggest you all give it a try before you judge it.

I don't care if Netscape uses Mozilla's framework or not.

It is like buying a Honda Civic. It is reliable and cheap, but what happens when I buy every single inconceivable aftermarket add-on and install them only because my friends think they look 'cool' and are 'useful'?

Yes, Netscape is indeed Firefox under the hood, but no longer matters when it has 200 pounds of rice on top of it.

If you want to look at it like that, to each their own.

Word. I couldn't have said it better. 👍
