Aston Racing has revealed their website, along with what appears to be a photograph of the car.

Nice looking car, and with Prodrive behind them, it should go well.

Yea, but look at the wing closly. Its out of tone with the car color. I've also remember seeing that front bumper on one of Punkrocks photoshops also.

Yes, I did say "appears" to be a photograph, as I hadn't had time to look closely. Having looked, yes it has been photoshopped, but for certain the car is no hoax, and will be racing next year.

That car looks great, it's a render of what the car will look like.

Yay. Another thread were people ruthlessly attack a car that isn't even out yet. What is wrong here? My only concern for the AM DBR9 is... will it have light-enough weight so that it cannot be considered too heavy to compete with the Murcielago and Corvette. I mean, I learned that the Supra and Skyline were possibly too heavy to compete at Le Mans the respective years they competed. Aston Martin is one of my favorite British car companies other than Jaguar, McLaren, and even TVR. AM is best known for their sporty luxury cars. How many cars do you know LOOK like nice racing cars and can perform like them even if the weight of the cars is more than 3,000 lbs and cost well over $100K?

I say that it's a blessing to have AM compete in GT racing. Maybe with work, they can come up with a GTP race car that WILL compete, unlike the future success that could have been in store for the Aston Martin AMR-1. Welcome to the party, AM!

photoshopped or not, i´m really looking forward to seeing this thing race in next years FIA-GT championship. it´s going to take GT racing back to it´s former glory days. it will be competing against the 550/575 Maranellos, Saleens, the new Maserati GT & Murcielagos, old Vipers and even that ugly Lister. if that doesn´t promise great races i don´t know what will....

If that's an official Aston Martin endorsed 'chop' of the DB9, and it is, I think I may reconsider my current line of work!

Rumour only, and not fact as of yet.

"The first DBR9 is being prepared now and will compete during 2005 in selected international sports car events, including Le Mans 24 Hours. Three Aston Martin Racing Works teams will then be appointed to compete in major international sports cars series. These will be independent teams each racing two DBR9s with the full factory support of Aston Martin Racing.

Aston Martin Racing will also make a very limited number of DBR9 racing cars available to selected customers. These cars will be prepared to the same specification as the Works cars."

From the press release. Sounds rather factual to me...

With all due respect to the machine, I think the DBR9 would look best in British Racing Green and the Aston Martin logo on it. Red isn't really my favorite color for an Aston Martin. Let's see how they do.

Any specifications on it, perchance? I'm probably predicting it will have well over 500 horsepower from a normally-aspirated V-10 or V-12. Making as many weight-saving mesaures as possible and carbonizing the car frames and adding a rollcage, it will probably weigh just within 2600 lbs/1100 kg (right?). I predict that the three car team will be at Sebring or Le Mans and they will do pretty well, maybe make it to the GTS podium with at least one of the cars pending two other cars don't crash out by prototypes.

For more on my un-psychic view on Aston Martin, insert 25 cents to continue. (^_^)

It doesn't state WHICH series those will be. To conclude that they are running in three seperate series, and that those are the series is premature. Logically, it makes sense, but is still rumour.

I should have checked my email before my last post. I wondered about the car, and emailed them yesterday... this was the response.
Dear Brett,

Thank you for your recent email.

We appreciate your interest in the Aston Martin Racing DBR9 programme.

At present, we are looking at all the various international sports car series around the world including LMES, ALMS, FIA GT and talking with the organisers to establish which would be best for Aston Martin Racing to compete in. We have not yet definitely excluded or included any specific race series.
We will be releasing more information about the programme later in the year and I will be sure to add your contact details to our mailing list.

Kind regards

What series should they (prodrive) run a GT car in if not the FIA-GT ?

edit: oops too late :dopey:

The DBR9 will be down to the 1100KG minimun weight for GTS (to be renamed GT1 in 2005). It will have carbon bodywork and a 600bhp+ V12 engine.

Road car weight has little relation to the race car, as cars like the DB9 have very luxurious trim levels etc.

BTW there will be 3 seperate works backed teams, each running 2 cars each. Not one, 3 car team.

With the ACO/FIA having the same GTS regs in 2006 cars will be able to switch between series pretty easily. It also makes sense that the 'works' teams will be spread between LMES, ALMS and FIA GT.

But as Fogelhund has correctly stated, this has not yet been conformed. Of course any suitable team with the cash could buy a customer car to race.

I've heard of no such class changes for 2005. I would get that information because me and my dad are registered members with Sebring international raceway.

The ACO and FIA have both agreed to rename FIA GT and ACO GTS class to GT1 class, and FIA N-GT and ACO GT class to GT2. They will also be sharing similar rules between the two of them, meaning that if Aston Martin runs FIA GT, they will automatically be able to run in ALMS, LMES, and LeMans without any modification.

Sounds like they are blasting back into the past.

But I've also noticed IMSA is back into the ACO and FIA..

Its just a logical name change rather than returning to the old type of cars.

IMSA ALMS has always run to ACO rules.

Yea, but if you goto any of the ALMS races. Some cars are putting the IMSA sticker on but the class name. I dunno. I'd just thought I would point that out.
