Yeah - actually you're not exactly right (really close ). I remember the Crown Victorias and Grand Marks used to (they still might) have the shifter on the steering column. They just got a minor makeover this year.
Okay, but I make it a habit to keep out of automatic transmitted cars. I also remember something about large, bench seats up front...maybe that kept the shifter on the steering column....

[Not that I know where this question came from, but:] I don't think so. The car is probably too big to pass crash tests if the B & C pillars were removed. Maybe as a SLK-style collapsible hardtop, but it would have to be quite heavy, IMO. As if you need more cowl shake in a Ford....
