I haven't seen this posted yet SOOO....

Dodge has confirmed with this first sketch that it aims to again recreate some of the company's early muscle-car magic conjured by the Charger name.

The 2006 Charger, a stout and roubust four-door that carries a rakish roof line and the large, egg-crate face of the company's performance car and truck division, also replaces Dodge's Intrepid NASCAR entry. It looks "almost like a four-door coupe" said Dr. Dieter Zetsche in an exclusive interview on Friday.

The Charger will debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2005, and is expected to enter showrooms in the spring of 2005. True to its power image, it will carry with it the much-vaunted, 340-hp Hemi engine under the hood as an option. Its base engine is expected to be a 3.5-liter V6 making 250 horsepower.

When the Charger first appeared in 1966 it was an enthusiasts' dream with high power, great performance and slick style that competed and won on oval tracks as well as drag strips.

In the early 1970s, however, thanks to government-mandated emissions constraints and rising gas prices, the Charger began a long and steady fall from car guy grace. It reached its nadir in 1981 when the company took the once-proud name and attached it to a thoroughly dreadful front-drive coupe in an effort to capitalize on its heritage and move units.

The new regime at DaimlerChrysler understands it doesn't have the benefit of overpromising and underdelivering. "We have to get the product right everytime," Zetsche said.

Pricing for the car will likely start at just below the Chrysler 300, at around $23,000.

Considering how tough this beast appears in sketches, can you imagine what the high-end SRT-12 version will look like?

I despise it, I think they should do what they did with the mustang and the beetle, bring the old design back with modern design incorporated, now that will sell not that POS 4 door, why did they make it a 4 door, i think muscle cars should make a come back.

Not a fan of the front end styling looks too magnumish.

Thats cause it basically is a sedan version of the magnum. Supposedly none of the sheetmetal is shared, but they're still almost identical.

I know that, but c'mon why do they have to make it look like another car in the line up, can't they think of anything else more creative?

I think Dodge ruined a legendary name with that car. C'mon a 4 door sedan. Chargers came with 2 doors and looked mean. That's a family car. But I know it's going to be packing plenty of power though. :grumpy:

Exactly, it just looks like a Magnum. They could've done better than that.

Awful. Just awful.

The name "Charger" has been ruined. It may have some power, but don't name it after a legendary car. And I don't understand why they made it a 4-door. It looks horrible.

I agree, Muscle cars do need a comeback. I also agree with s13drifting; the Mustang was well recovered and has been kept well through the modern era. I utterly hate this car. :yuck:

It probably would handle the power well, but the thing is just a damn shame. I wonder what they thought when they made the damn thing? If they liked what they'd done, they're sadistic.

This is one of the worst modern resurgences of a Classic Car I've seen.

Don't like it much at all. Doesn't look like it deserves the power. Way to much magnum styling for me.

I think it looks pretty awful. They should just release it under a different name and let the Charger stay dead.

Very much agreed.

I also prefer that one, super circus, but still not really any good.

Ya this car does not deserve to have that name and that power, they should just give it a V6 and slap on an Intrepid badge on it.

Everybody just complains! It's got a Hemi, a 5spd auto, RWD/AWD, what else do you want? It's a lot better than any Intrepid. Just look how far Chrysler has come from the K-cars.

I probably want better styling for something that fast, its not aggressive enough.......
