We've taken the plunge. Thus far the comp has covered 'relatively' easier cars to design. But I think now we should focus more on the radical concept cars that start out as scribbles on the designer's desk.
This week, we are going to be designing an Audi 'Shooting Brake' purely for show. This one should be purely for concept, so there really isn't any limitation of materials, pricing, etc.
For those of you who don't know what Shooting Brakes are-
Shooting Brakes have been cult favourites for the past 4 decades; ultra high performance station wagons or hatchbacks that have been produced factory (and by custom companies) from such marques as Ferrari, Aston Martin and Lamborghini.
The Audi prototype we are talking about should follow this criteria:
-Be capable of 170 mph
-Hold 4 people comfortably
-Must be a wagon/hatchback
-Look like an Audi (It should be identifiable as an Audi without the badge)
-Should look new, innovative. Try not to rehash various other Audi concepts, as it could look out of date.

Examples of Shooting Brakes:

With design criteria that almost necessitate awkward proportions, Shooting Brakes are difficult to design. Hence, this should be a great competition to watch. Good luck to all! :D

Deadline is next Sunday, unless final entries are slow.

Remember, it's gotta be an Audi. No Vipers or TVRs.

I'll see what I can do. Audi has changed a lot in the past year, applying that design house to a new hatch or wagon will be tough. That style is very hard to get right.

Godd luck, and I'll try to be more on time this comp...

Dark Skyline
I'm having issuses with my design. It starts to look really cool, then it gets screwed up. Its very fun though.
It is a challenge I agree, but after looking at different concept art for car designs. It has helped me.

Ok here is my entry at the moment, this may stay as my entry. But if I want to change it, how long do i have left to change it.

Here is some info on the design. Well let me start off by saying that thing on the bottom. Like on the side skirts, is like a air duct. That transfers hot heat from the brakes to cool, them down more quickly.

If you look at there back there is a black thing on the bottom, that is a rear defuser to make it more stable at fast speeds. On the hood, there is a curve in it.

That is part of the cooling for the engine, followed on the side. By other cooling. But a bit bigger version, for better cooling.

And if you look near the bottom there is 2 lights. One more thing, the side mirror, does not have a long holding pole. To hold it into postion, insted it is intergrated into the body work.

To improve speed, and not to slow it down. But if you look more into the side mirrors your see something which is pointey like, that is a curve in the side mirror. Which should also improve speed, and should have less slow down with that.

Pretty cool design, but. . . .

I think you might have missed that part. (eliseracer also mentioned it in his post). Still a nice drawing, nevertheless.

As for me, I just wanted to make sure that I understood when the deadline was. It is December 11, right? If so, I may try to work on something early this weekend.

It is not definitely the 11. That's the earliest it will be. I have a feeling an extension may be in order, though I hope not.

Over the Christmas break we'll have a two-weeker.

It is finals week (for me at least) so I won't be around here til about Fri. even though I got sorta a concept at the moment.

same here. had my first one today. pretty good considering i only studied an hour before i left my house. gosh i need to stop procrastinating :ouch:

Upon further review of the further review of the further review, this sucker's staying open until the first Sunday of the new year. Goddamn midterms. :D

There has been no update in here of late, hope you have not forgotten about this comp.
