What he said. Not to mention, but I will, that starting off online is going to be a total crapshoot. You won't have a clue what kind of crowd you'll be racing with, whether they'll race professionally or try to bash their way around the track. And then there's the issue of lag, which hopefully won't be. But just imagine that some idiot kid is bumping his way around the track, and you give him a bad rep. He may well retaliate on you. Or if you lag and collide with someone badly, ruining their race, and they give you a negative score. Or if you drive cleanly but end up in the middle, and no one reps you. It's going to take at least a few weeks to sort this environment out as far as who the bad apples are, possibly months.

I do see your point about how single player can be better... but what you said also is why PD really need to work on online mode hard to make it as perfect as they possibly can... it need serious organision and rules.

Even so, if you wanted to race just with people you know Im sure you could setup private races with friends online... then it would be a much higher level of driving quality.... and also there will be all th GTPlanet members on it, most of which are very good at driving im sure :sly:

Uhh... yeah, sorry, sometimes I can be an idiot. :P

Undoubtedly, a bunch of us will have the PS3 and GT HD/Series/Vision or whatever it's going to be called and will share our account nicks and all. There could be GT Forum servers, and ranked servers at that, so that those of us in 1st rank or 3rd in the Online WRS could get together and have some fairly competitive racing.

Sometimes I'm slow. ;)

Oh, but one thing is I wasn't necessarily saying offline would be better, just not a magical experience because you'd be racing against real humans online. But I've seen the error of my ways.

Yes wreckers and crappy drivers will be an issue. it shouldn't be too bad with a community like GTplanet and others already established.

When i say crappy drivers... i mean the guys that can barely stay on the road... swerving all over the place because they dont know how to pass or defend without hitting other people or going off/spinning out :P. We will see alot of those when gt5 1st debuts...Hopefully there is an online license test to reduce this For each class of car.

I wonder if PD is talented enough and truely dedicated to surpassing the realism of pc racing games.

If GTPlanet could be its own GT online club, clan, whatever you want to call it at least it would filter out some rubbish drivers and have dedicated fans who know how to drive... I could see some great races happening with all of you guys! :dopey: Everyone will probably post up there username here and then there can be a real online racing series competitions and meets...... it would be great! :)

The problem with online is it's not so simple to just jump into a 5 lap race for 10 mins then switch off, you have to find the right players then you have to wait for them to all setup thier cars and get ready before the race, which alone can take 10 mins in some cases.

Yes online will be a great feature, but no it will not replace offline, and no it is not an excuse to neglect offline. I'm sure a good online race will be more fun, hell I play LFS a lot and I love that game online even if I never win, but the offline is still important for GT5.

Were you watching me race my buddy on Nurburgring over the weekend in 350Z? :guilty:

I guess we'll have to see. The PS3 is theoretically better than all but the most expensive PC gaming rigs. What Kaz and company have pulled off on the PS2 has been amazing, and I think even the most begrudging grouchers would agree. If Polyphony can harness that multithreaded, multiprocessor architecture and get good input from Japanese, American and European professional drivers, it should be pretty darn sweet.

I wonder if it would be possable to play through the game online somehow. I mean early on youd get all types racing together but as the winners progress they will face off against each other in the "professional" sieries and the winners there will continue to extream or endurence seiries. and hopfully the bad drivers will be stuck trying to win their ways out of the ameture races.

please excuse my spelling, it's a mental thing,,,

maybe.. i was thinking along the lines of a license test for each class of car. leagues and such can build a structure where you have to work your way up to faster cars. In the open wheel racing league for LFS, you have to do very well in the weaker FOX (formula renault) to be worthy of driving the formula v8 (formula nippon/3000/gp2).

there are a ton of gran turismo fans to take care of running leagues. the devs should work on just giving us many customisable options, good netcode, and a good easy to undestand interface.

Exactly! 👍

i concur with live4speed. Online shoudlnt take away anything from offline. You can't play multiplayer if you cant' get braodband. And a lot of ppl cant even get broadband. having said that... online play should also take nothing away from LAN play.

With a game such as this . GT. Its offline aspect is probably the biggest aspect simply because it is where you perfect your driving. You. Your car. The track. And plenty of mistakes and laps with them.

since this WILL be a glorified gt4..i am wondering wether our old gt4 save file will be compatible with it..

I am guessing that for most of the online races you will choose your car and then go race. Meaning the tuning should be done before hand. I would be very surprised if Online Mode is set up to give you option to tune your car. Would be very nice to be able to tune your car while running qualifying laps for say 25 plus lap races. I believe that online will be a huge part of GT5 if they have at least a half way decent online capabilities with lots of features.
